To prevent a future war among Saints, Sage Tongtian had to remain clear-headed at all times.

When a tribulation erupted, only Merit Spirit Treasures and treasures capable of suppressing fortune could keep people from being affected by tribulation aura.

Yet to stabilize the fortune of a great sect, the required treasure would inevitably have to be of an extremely high grade. Ordinary treasures were simply not worth mentioning.

Once the Jie Sect developed to the point where ten thousand immortals came to pay homage, even the Three Heaven-Opening Treasures would be unable to suppress such immense fortune.

Forcibly suppressing it would instead invite a backlash from fortune, damaging the treasure.

Now that the Jie Sect had yet to develop, using a treasure to suppress its fortune in advance would be far easier.

Once the Jie Sect grew in the future and its fortune exceeded the range the treasure could suppress, the treasure simply need not interfere, and thus would not suffer a backlash from fortune.

With a treasure holding the line, the Jie Sect's fortune would not collapse completely. Sage Tongtian would also be less likely to lose his reason, and the war among Saints could be avoided.

Take the Western Sect, for example. Though it had no Innate Supreme Treasure, the Merit Golden Lotus could still suppress part of its fortune.

Even during the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, when Mosquito Daoist devoured three grades of the Twelfth-Grade Merit Golden Lotus, it still sustained the Western Sect's great prosperity for an entire tribulation.

Even though the Devil Race later returned in force and ended Buddhism's great prosperity.

After the great tribulation passed, Buddhism was still able to rise again.
