Background / History

Duan Yun transmigrated into the martial world and received the Jade Sword True Canon from an old man. He immediately formed Jade Sword True Qi, assumed this proved he was a once-in-ten-thousand swordsmanship prodigy, and began cultivating alone without realizing the canon could turn its user into “Great Medicine” for other cultivators to harvest. 2

His early cultivation was driven by trial and error. After Lunar Essence transformed his Sword Qi, he killed Black Bear Gang elite Wang Li in self-defense and chose vengeance over fleeing, eventually exterminating the Black Bear Gang before leaving Riverside City. 3 18

The Lingshui Twin Heroes, Hua Wen and Hua Wu, initially approached Duan Yun as benevolent senior martial artists while secretly intending to harvest him. Duan Yun trusted them, called them friends, and even taught them his understanding of the Jade Sword True Canon before their hostility became clear. 21 22 23

As he travelled toward Springwatch City, Duan Yun’s actions created the feared legend of “Duan Old Devil.” He repeatedly rejected that identity, maintaining that he was a bullied but righteous young hero who killed only because others had forced his hand. 32 33
