History

Mjolnir is Thor’s customary weapon. According to an account Chen Ji recalls, Odin subdued a sentient Divine Storm that threatened Asgard and sealed it inside Uru Metal supplied by the Dwarves. That metal was forged into the hammer 281.

When Odin stripped Thor of his divine power and banished him to Midgard, he enchanted Mjolnir so that whoever was worthy to wield it would possess Thor’s Power. The hammer fell in New Mexico, where the powerless Thor could not lift it 167 169.

During Loki’s seizure of Asgard, Chen Ji summoned Mjolnir from New Mexico and lifted it. He gained lightning power and Thorium Battle Armor, then used the hammer against the Destroyer Armor. His ability to wield it also made Asgardians question Loki’s claim that Chen was a traitor 170. Thor later wielded Mjolnir again after regaining his divine power 175 178.

Hela caught the hammer mid-flight and crushed it in her hand. Chen Ji reassembled the fragments and returned it to Thor. The restored hammer remained cracked but retained its strength and magical abilities 281.

Mjolnir is a hammer marked with runes that light up when Thor channels its power 222 281.

• A worthy wielder can gain Thor’s Power; Chen Ji manifested lightning and Thorium Battle Armor when he lifted it 167 170.
• Thor could not lift it while stripped of his power 169.

Lightning and Combat

Mjolnir channels immense force and lightning in Thor’s hands 63.

• Thor can throw it, call it back, and use it to fly 63 163.
• Its strikes can devastate a battlefield: Thor brought down a Chitauri Leviathan with one blow 239.
• Chen Ji combined its lightning with his other powers to strike the Destroyer Armor 170.

Divine Storm

Chen Ji senses a powerful, apparently sentient force within Mjolnir and connects it to the Divine Storm Odin is said to have sealed in the Uru Metal 281.

• Thor Odinson — Mjolnir’s customary wielder; he uses it to fight, summon lightning, and fly 63 163 239.
• Chen Ji — lifted the enchanted hammer during Loki’s coup, fought the Destroyer with it, and later repaired it for Thor 170 281.
