Background / History

Thor returned from Vanaheim after Odin summoned him to Asgard. Already celebrated for defeating a Rock Troll and suppressing rebellions throughout the Nine Realms, he was expected to succeed Odin and continue Asgard's golden age 62. Odin arranged for Thor to face Chen Ji in the Mirror Dimension, partly to demonstrate Asgard's strength. Thor initially underestimated Chen, but their spar forced him to acknowledge Chen's extraordinary magic and spatial abilities 62 63.

When Frost Giants infiltrated Odin's Vault, Thor demanded vengeance and pushed Chen to open a portal to Jotunheim. There, he fought alongside Sif and the Warriors Three against overwhelming Frost Giant forces, ignoring Odin's preference for investigation and restraint 166 167. Odin punished this recklessness by stripping Thor's divine power, banishing him to New Mexico, and placing an enchantment on Mjolnir that prevented him from lifting it 167.

Thor returned to Asgard as a mortal when Loki seized the Eternal Spear and staged a rebellion. His confidence often crossed into impulsiveness, most notably when he pressed for war against Jotunheim despite Odin's command to wait 165 167.

His exile and loss of Mjolnir forced him to confront his dependence on divine power. Although humiliated and despairing when he could not lift the hammer, he still defended Asgard as a mortal 169. After his power was restored, Thor recognized the futility of war as a solution, though he remained prepared to fight to protect the Nine Realms 175.

Thor remains deeply attached to Loki despite repeated betrayals.
