Antarctica, a land steeped in mystery in the Marvel Universe.
It was also the most mystically absurd place.
As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but ice and penguins. It looked like there was nothing there, but if you dug down a little, it was incredibly easy to find unexpected treasures.
Jack had been in Antarctica for a week already. There were still three weeks until the scheduled date, which seemed like plenty of time, but to Jack, every day was torture.
Because they had spent an entire week searching Antarctica for Captain America!!!
In this damn frozen wasteland, Jack simply could not find any way to earn Evil Points!
In the movie, a Russian oil exploration team discovered a World War II-era plane, and then S.H.I.E.L.D. received the news.
Coulson arrived in style with his team.
Then, after a quick cut, the plane immediately appeared on screen.
But the actual excavation work was far more complicated than Jack had imagined.
All kinds of equipment, all kinds of instruments, an excavation team, a security team, remote support—a team of several hundred people was dedicated to this matter.
Yet aside from the first three days, those several hundred people had spent the remaining four days drilling through ice!
Because Antarctica's brutal icy weather caused the terrain here to change constantly.
That Russian oil exploration team was not going to keep wasting time waiting around here for S.H.I.E.L.D.
So after Coulson and the others arrived, they could only slowly dig downward within the approximate area.
Feeling that it would take at least another two weeks before they could possibly find Captain America, Jack had now joined the excavation team and started working alongside them.
This had caused Coulson's opinion of Jack to soar recently.
A guy who was such a thorn in everyone else's side that he dared slap people, yet could roll up his sleeves and diligently do work that had nothing to do with being an agent—what a reliable man~~~
Jack did not know whether he was reliable or not, but he knew they had already dug up an unexpected treasure...
A hammer buried beneath the ice...
Not Thor's hammer. The next heir to the Nine Realms had not even been cast down to Earth by his father yet, so this hammer was not Thor's.
Which raised a question...
Who else in Marvel used a hammer?
Jack called Coulson over. The latter looked equally confused; he had not expected them to fail to dig up Captain America, only to uncover a hammer first.
"Alright, I'll pick it up first, and we can study it in a bit."
To find out whether this was Thor's hammer, Jack knew he only needed to try picking it up. Anyway, he knew he definitely would not be able to lift it...
Pop~
Jack effortlessly pulled the hammer from the ice, then stared at it as if he had seen a ghost.
That was impossible!
How could he possibly lift the hammer?
After thinking for two seconds, Jack decided he must have developed a case of adventure-starvation syndrome. The system he had waited three years for had finally arrived, but his craving for miraculous encounters had not changed.
So his first thought had been that this hammer belonged to Thor.
Maybe this thing was just a toy?
Wasn't there all sorts of trash drifting into Antarctica these days?
Jack swung the hammer in his hand, then saw the strange look on Coulson's face. He shrugged. "Maybe I'm being overly sensitive. But can you believe we dug a hammer out from under the ice?"
Coulson thoughtfully held out his hand. "Let me see. This thing might be connected to some classified matter."
"Huh?"
What secret could a hammer that his one-ton arm strength could lift so easily possibly hold?
So Jack handed the hammer to Coulson. The instant Coulson took it, he crashed straight into the ice. The enormous weight nearly broke his fingers on the spot.
Fortunately, as a Level Six Agent, Jack's reflexes were not slow. He immediately picked up the hammer, preventing Coulson's fingers from being crushed.
"Phew... phew..."
After freeing his fingers, Coulson took a deep breath of frigid air. Looking at the hammer that seemed so light in Jack's hand, a glint flashed through his eyes.
According to intelligence S.W.O.R.D. provided to high-ranking agents, Fury and his people were well aware that the Nine Realms truly existed.
The hammer made Coulson think of Thor, the God of Thunder, but... why the hell could Jack Wilson lift it?
Because he was enough of a thorn in the side?
So to lift this hammer, a person first had to be enough of a thorn in the side?
Watching Coulson's ever-changing expression and the confusion in his eyes, Jack guessed that he had thought of Thor.
Based on his agent rank, Jack knew he could not reveal that he knew Thor existed. So, feigning confusion, he crouched down halfway and lightly tapped the ground with the hammer in his hand.
Crack...
A fissure five meters deep was instantly blasted through the ice.
"What the fuck?! What is this thing?! It split straight through the ice?!" With impeccable acting, Jack stared at the ground as if he had seen a ghost.
Having recovered from the pain in his fingers, Coulson gritted his teeth and said, "Jack, in my capacity as a Level Eight Agent, I order you to protect that hammer and not let anyone take it away!"
"I need to report this unexpected situation to the director!"
Jack: "..."
In a sense, Coulson's first sentence was complete nonsense. Jack himself did not even know why he could lift the hammer. Perhaps no one in the entire excavation team besides him... not even Hydra, might be able to lift the thing.
So, not let anyone take it away?
They had to be able to pick it up first!
Wasn't that similar to a certain question?
If Thor's hammer was placed in an elevator, and the elevator could go upward, causing the hammer's position to change, did that mean the elevator could lift the hammer?
With his mind in a bit of a mess, Jack failed to notice that Hydra within the excavation team was also reporting the matter up the chain.
Thus, inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. office building in New York, the leaders of two forces learned of the news at the same time.
A hammer?
Fury felt that finding a hammer suspected to belong to Thor while searching for Captain America was truly an unexpected bonus. At the same time, he felt that his own judgment was not bad!
Just as he had discovered outstanding agents like Hill and Coulson!
He had now discovered a young talent like Jack Wilson!
Promoted to head of the Manhattan District in three years, repeatedly doing dirty work for him—he was exactly the kind of young man who was not afraid of getting his hands dirty, possessed some real ability, and even had exceptional luck!
Compared to Coulson, that old straight-laced type, Fury naturally appreciated Jack more!
He needed to put more responsibility on a young man like this!
Pierce shared the same thought. As Hydra's top man, one of his underlings had produced such a talent and had even lifted a hammer suspected to be Thor's.
He had to be put to good use!
Hydra never rejected talent!
So Pierce went to Fury's office and ran into Fury, who had the same idea. Once the two old friends heard each other's thoughts, they were immediately filled with the feeling that true kindred spirits were hard to find.
Then Jack, far away in Antarctica and still playing with the hammer, was dumbfounded.
Deepened the friendship between Fury and Pierce. Evil Points -10,000.
WTF!!!!!!!!
I only touched a hammer, and you two became soulmates over it?!
