Background
After Jiang Shu killed Black Dragon Demon Lord and two other local Demon Lords in the Chaotic Demon Sea, the sole surviving local Demon Lord fled to the Endless Sea Domain’s main battlefield and reported the losses to the Demon Venerable stationed there 528.
In response, the Demon Venerable used the Great Black Sun Art to cover the Chaotic Demon Sea, locate Jiang Shu, and dispatch an avatar to capture and kill him 528. The avatar’s mission was intended not only to eliminate Jiang Shu, but also to restore Demon Race morale after Jiang Shu’s attacks on their forces 531 536.
The avatar pursued Jiang Shu through the Chaotic Demon Sea and into a Spatial Turbulence-filled abyss. Although it initially overwhelmed Jiang Shu, repeated engagements allowed Jiang Shu to study its methods, exploit its incomplete soul, and eventually drive it away while badly exhausted himself 529 530 535 536.
After returning to the true body, the avatar reported its failure and suggested that Jiang Shu might possess a Dao Artifact capable of concealing him from a Demon Venerable’s perception. The Demon Venerable recognized that the failed assassination could damage Demon Race morale while elevating Jiang Shu’s standing among the Human Race 536.
Appearance
The Demon Venerable’s true body is concealed beneath mist while seated upon a throne; only faintly glowing golden eyes are visible. Great Dao rhythms hang behind the throne, described as numbering more than several hundred 528.
- His avatar manifests as a burly humanoid silhouette with the same golden eyes and obscured features 528.
- The avatar is associated with black mist, a blood-colored spear, and overwhelming Killing Intent 532 535.
Abilities & Skills
Demon Venerable Realm
The Demon Venerable stands at the same major realm as a Primal Chaos Realm Dao Venerable. His true body has opened a Small World within itself and can nurture Dao Artifacts corresponding to different Great Daos 529 532.
- The Dao rhythms behind his throne are described as containing more than several hundred Great Daos 528.
- Even his avatar’s understanding of the Great Dao of Space surpasses that of many Demon Monarchs 529.
- His avatar was capable of overwhelming Jiang Shu’s spatial evasion and severely damaging Jiang Shu’s powerful physical body 530.
Great Black Sun Art
The Demon Venerable used the Great Black Sun Art to cast a Black Sun over the Chaotic Demon Sea and track Jiang Shu 528 529.
- The technique spread the Demon Venerable’s influence over the entire sea region 529.
- Its aura entangled Jiang Shu, though Jiang Shu believed he could eventually break free given enough time 529.
Avatar Manifestation
The Demon Venerable can separate an avatar with its own consciousness to act independently 528 529.
- The avatar shares the true body’s appearance in broad outline, though it is much weaker 528.
- It can pursue targets through space and engage in direct combat without the true body appearing personally 529.
- Jiang Shu identified the avatar’s incomplete soul as a major weakness and struck it with the Void Soul Rending Gaze 535.
- Jiang Shu theorized that the avatar was created from a severed portion of the Demon Venerable’s soul and burdened with the corrupted Great Dao of Slaughter; this remains Jiang Shu’s deduction rather than a confirmed explanation 535 536.
Great Dao of Slaughter
The avatar wields a blood-colored spear and attacks through extreme Killing Intent, blood mist, and slaughter-based techniques 532 535.
- Its Killing Intent alone could drive a Nirvana Realm Dao Lord into demonic deviation or shatter their Dao 535.
- It created blood lotuses and killing formations through spear techniques 532.
- It manifested a dragon of sin through the Great Dao of Slaughter during its battle with Jiang Shu 535.
- Jiang Shu deliberately provoked the avatar into igniting Dao Fire, worsening its instability 536.
Relationships
- Jiang Shu / Jiang Tai Xuan — Primary target of the Demon Venerable’s assassination attempt after Jiang Shu slew three Demon Lords in the Chaotic Demon Sea. The avatar repeatedly pursued Jiang Shu but failed to kill him 528 529 536.
- Demon Venerable Avatar — A manifested combat body with an independent consciousness; it acts on the true body’s orders and later reports its defeat directly to him 528 536.
- Demon Race forces — The Demon Venerable’s attempt to kill Jiang Shu was partly motivated by concern for Demon Race morale and the broader Human–Demon war 531 536.
Story Role
Assassination of Jiang Tai Xuan
The Demon Venerable intervenes after Jiang Shu’s destruction of Demon Race forces in the Chaotic Demon Sea. Rather than appearing in person, he sends an avatar equipped with superior spatial methods and slaughter-based power to hunt Jiang Shu 528 529.
Battle Against the Avatar
The avatar initially outclasses Jiang Shu, breaking through his spatial escapes and battering his body. Jiang Shu survives through the Devouring Sky Mirror, Space Anchors, the Immortal Decree, illusion techniques, and repeated retreats into safety 530 532 535.
Jiang Shu ultimately exposes the avatar’s incomplete soul as a weakness, wounds it through coordinated soul and Dao attacks, and exploits its unstable Great Dao of Slaughter to force a retreat 535 536.
Impact on the War
The failed assassination becomes a major propaganda and morale loss for the Demon Race. Jiang Shu survives the pursuit, destroys more than a dozen Demon Race cities, and kills over a million Demon Race soldiers; Human Race Dao Venerables subsequently hail him as the outstanding talent of the younger generation 536.
