History

Dongting Immortal Sect was one of the three supreme cultivation powers of the Heavenly Origin Realm, alongside the Dragon-Tiger Immortal Sect and Moon-Inviting Immortal Sect. Its resources, techniques, and status were considered unattainable for ordinary sects, lineages, and rogue cultivators. Even ordinary official disciples commanded considerable deference outside the sect. 1 33 336

The sect’s prosperity was closely tied to the Spirit Fields and Earth Veins beneath its territory. Mo Qiushui stated that, after the destruction of the Mysterious Yellow Spirit Sect ten thousand years earlier, Dongting led a coalition against it and used the Myriad-Era Spirit-Drawing Formation to drain imprisoned survivors’ cultivation, Spiritual Roots, souls, and Primordial Yellow Qi into the sect’s Spirit Fields and Spirit Veins. 885

Xuan Yan later offered a conflicting account: he identified the Mysterious Yellow Spirit Sect as Dongting’s predecessor and claimed it had raised the Defiled-Earth God to resist the invading Profound River Spirit Clan, only for the god to become uncontrollable. 964

As the underground seal weakened, black Killing Intent, Earth Vein instability, and the threat of ancient sealed beings forced the sect to adopt the Worldly Engagement Plan. Ordinary disciples were assigned to mortal-world factions and peripheral outposts, while the sect prepared its core forces for a possible collapse of its homeland. 780 783

When the seal was projected to fail within five years, Xuan Yan and Chao Jin formally divided Dongting into regional successor forces led by the seven Immortal Peaks. Azurewood Peak relocated to Fengrao Commandery as Azurewood Sect, while other peaks dispersed across the five regions of the Heavenly Origin Realm. 896

Over the following years, Azurewood Sect absorbed the remaining forces of the former Dongting Immortal Sect and was elevated as the Azurewood Immortal Sect, recognized as the realm’s third Immortal Sect. 1043 1096
