Cain watched Newt disappear, a smile spreading across his face.

"Come on! What are you all standing around for?"

With that, Cain leaped down. A blinding white light flared again, and he vanished from sight.

Green saw this and leaped down without hesitation.

Amid the blinding white light, Green felt the space around him twist. It was as though he had been stretched into a noodle and sucked through a crack.

Here it comes! Green narrowed his eyes.

After a dizzying whirl, Green looked around. A beach came into view, and he heard waves nearby. The shift from night to day left his eyes struggling to adjust. Only when they had recovered a little did he take a closer look at his surroundings.

Green found himself on a small island. A beach ringed its shores, with dense forest farther inland. At the island's center stood a single enormous rocky mountain, lush with trees. Yet beneath the sunlight, its shadowed slopes hinted at a dark, unfathomable power.

He turned toward the sea and heard waves striking the reefs. Overhead were a blue sky, white clouds, and a shining sun. Nothing was missing, yet none of it had any spark of life. Looking closely, he could almost see some unseen force driving it all through the same motions, over and over.

Rather than head inland to explore the ruins, Green stayed where he was. He touched the ring on his right thumb and felt a faint ripple of space.

"Phew! Good, the one-use spatial array still works!" Green breathed out, feeling a little more confident.
