In Bernal's secret base, he crouched among the lush plants of his potion garden, tending to something. He brushed the dirt from his hands and stepped out of the nursery, then suddenly froze.
Dago stood dozens of meters away. Bernal had no idea when he had appeared. He simply stood there, watching him.
Their eyes met. After a moment, Bernal said slowly, "Everyone has secrets of their own, but I never imagined you were keeping so many from me."
Dago shook his head, a helpless smile on his handsome young face. "Bernal, we haven't seen each other in days, and that's the first thing you say to a friend?"
Bernal paused. His gaze soon softened, and he murmured so quietly that only he could hear, "Welcome back, Dago."
The two went to sit on the sofa in the living area and caught up.
"Ice Fortress."
After hearing Dago's account, Bernal showed little surprise. "The tower master's advice is sound."

Dago could not help frowning as he asked.
"Ice Fortress has quite a reputation. A group of powerful wizard families lives there, and it's said the place may have a subtle connection to Ice Prison Palace, one of the Wizard Alliance's seven seats."
Bernal explained calmly, "Once you reach Ice Fortress and find a wizard willing to guide you, he'll tell you the details."
"As for your training, the tower master's advice and arrangements will be far better than mine. Just listen to her."
He changed the subject, glancing toward the potion garden. "Your trip to Ice Fortress will take at least two months there and back. The God-Prison Blood Tree sapling is at a critical stage of growth. I suggest you take it with you."
