| First Appearance | 289 |
Background
Ewakuai was born into the Uta Tribe, whose lineage preserved the complete inheritance of the Elder Spirit Wizards. He was the only member of his generation considered capable of becoming a spirit wizard. Five years before his second attempt at the Hall of All Spirits, he entered it with several tribal elders, failed the inheritance trial, and lost every elder who accompanied him. 378
He later entered Isidore’s Prodigy Battle to locate a Soul Anomaly capable of assisting his next trial. Although Ang Leo was a stronger candidate in some respects, Ewakuai rejected him as too unstable and instead pursued cooperation with Dago. 378
Appearance
In human form, Ewakuai is a powerfully built man with a primitive, savage bearing. He wears beast-hide clothing and keeps his hair in short braids; while acting as the Spirit Witch Tribe’s Saint, he wears black wolf hide and snow-white totemic markings across his body. 289 337 377
- His beast-hide attire radiates an ancient, wild aura. 289
- His physique visibly expands during transformations. 337
- His spirit-wolf form is a slender black wolf wrapped in dark-blue soul flames. 339
- He can also appear as a flock of black-bodied, white-headed owls that merges into a humanoid body. 432
Personality
Ewakuai is proud, composed, and highly confident in battle. During the Prodigy Battle, he refuses to cooperate fully with the Flame Oath wizard against Dago, preferring an honorable one-on-one confrontation. 338
Outside combat, he is knowledgeable and sincere toward those he accepts as allies. He warns Dago of an approaching calamity, provides compensation for the soul injuries he inflicted, gives him a soul-concealing finger bone, and offers guidance on resolving his incomplete soul fusion. 342 377 378
His devotion to the Elder Spirit Wizard inheritance also makes him desperate and manipulative. He concealed that repeated failures in the Wolf Chieftain’s trial would consume another person’s soul lifespan, having already exhausted the Uta elders in earlier attempts. 437
Abilities & Skills
Wildness Law Transformations
Ewakuai has completely mastered the Wildness Law, transforming between several powerful beast forms. 289
- Giant Bear Form — Commands earth-based power and overwhelming physical strength. 338
- Black Giant Wolf Form — Moves at extreme speed, tearing apart the terrain with its passage. 289
- Eagle Form — Flies while wielding lightning. 289 338
- Humanoid Earth Giant Bear Form — A larger combat transformation used against Dago. 339
Ghost Wolf and the Blessing of All Spirits
Ewakuai’s most dangerous form is the spectral Ghost Wolf, a black spirit wolf that exists partially beyond the material world. 332 339
- Gains effective immunity to physical and ordinary elemental attacks through phase shifting. 339
- Passes through material defenses and attacks an opponent’s Soul Body directly. 332 339
- Its soul-claw attacks bypassed Dago’s Yitai Armor and inflicted wounds that consumed Soul Force. 339 340
- The form is not absolutely invulnerable; Ewakuai acknowledged that sufficiently powerful spells could still affect him. 340
Spirit-Wizard Techniques
As a true Elder Spirit Wizard, Ewakuai specializes in souls, spirits, rituals, and inheritance sites. 378
- Summons and commands spirit-wolf entities capable of entering the Soul Realm. 332
- Identifies Soul Anomalies and understands how unresolved obsessions obstruct soul fusion. 378
- Performs rites that release animal souls and open the path to the Hall of All Spirits under a full moon. 433
- Guides others through the Myriad Spirits Space, where conventional spellcasting is largely unavailable. 434
- Uses green-flame communication rituals to contact Dago across long distances. 431
Soul Concealment Finger Bone
Ewakuai gave Dago a white finger bone with powerful concealment properties. 377
- Conceals soul fluctuations from detection below the Seven-Ring level. 377
- Was later identified as the finger bone of Nashi, a former leader of Shadow Leech Academy. 463
Equipment
- Soul Disc — A millstone-like object tied to Ewakuai’s Wolf Chieftain inheritance trial; reversing it grants another attempt at the cost of a helper’s soul lifespan. 437 440
- White finger bone — A high-level soul-aura concealment artifact later entrusted to Dago. 377
- Communication Stone — Given to Dago after their Prodigy Battle encounter. 342
Relationships
- Dago Heka — Initially an opponent in Isidore’s Prodigy Battle; after conceding their duel, Ewakuai warns and aids Dago, then recruits him as a Soul Anomaly for the Hall of All Spirits expedition. Their alliance deepens when Dago risks his life to protect Ewakuai’s Soul Disc. 341 342 378 440
- Uta Tribe — His birth tribe and the keeper of the Elder Spirit Wizard inheritance. Earlier trial failures cost the lives of multiple Uta elders. 378 437
- Korklau — Opponent defeated when Ewakuai’s spirit wolf bypasses Korklau’s poison and tears away half of his soul. 332
- Ang Leo — A Soul Anomaly Ewakuai considered more naturally suitable than Dago, but rejected as too unstable for cooperation. 378
- Bahafus — Dragon Witch Chieftain whose inheritance Ewakuai once sought but failed to obtain due to its severe requirements. 435
- Wolf Chieftain — One of the Soul-Transformation System’s three grandmasters and the source of Ewakuai’s spiritual-shaman inheritance trial. 437
- Gorini — The tailless dark-silver dragon who invaded Ewakuai’s body after the Wolf Chieftain’s protection was withdrawn. 444
Story Role / Major Arcs
Isidore’s Prodigy Battle
Ewakuai arrives at the Fairy Ancient City ruins as one of the gathering’s elite geniuses, openly meditating amid the inner circle with the confidence that no one will attack him. His transformations reveal complete mastery of the Wildness Law. 289
He demonstrates the terror of his spirit-wizard path by defeating Korklau: his spirit wolf ignores Korklau’s poisonous domain, attacks through the Soul Realm, and removes half of Korklau’s soul. 332
During the Blood Battle, Ewakuai rejects cooperation with the Flame Oath wizard and faces Dago alone. His Ghost Wolf form initially renders Dago’s physical and elemental attacks ineffective, but Dago’s [Endless Vortex of the Sea of Despair] overwhelms Ewakuai’s summoned wolf phantoms and forces his concession. 338 339 341
Alliance with Dago
After their duel, Ewakuai heals Dago’s soul injuries and warns him of a great calamity. 342 When Dago later arrives at the Spirit Witch Tribe with Tracy, Ewakuai identifies their condition as a failed Phoenix Nirvana and explains the consequences of their soul fusion. 377
Ewakuai then reveals the Hall of All Spirits and asks Dago to help him enter it as a Soul Anomaly. He also explains that Dago’s multiple fused souls are obstructing his future advancement. 378
Hall of All Spirits Trial
Ewakuai reunites with Dago in the Middle Continent and leads him to the Hall’s entrance through ritual preparation, blood offerings, and the Soul Lake. 432 433 434
After Dago fails Bahafus’s inheritance test, Ewakuai begins his own final attempt at the Wolf Chieftain’s trial. Only then does he disclose that every failure requires another person to sacrifice around ten years of soul lifespan; Dago is left to guard the Soul Disc. 437
When the Disc reverses during Ewakuai’s first failed attempt, Dago turns it back despite being pursued by Gorini, suffering severe soul-burning pain to grant Ewakuai another chance. 440
Betrayal and Possession
Ewakuai ultimately appears to pass the Wolf Chieftain’s test and receives its protection. The Wolf Chieftain then withdraws that protection, allowing Gorini to invade Ewakuai’s body as part of a bargain with the remaining Witch Chieftains. 444
An altered figure resembling Ewakuai later emerges from a spatial rift, displaying a darker personality and claiming to be bound to the Witch Chieftains’ fate after the failed possession attempt. 444 Subsequent events describe Ewakuai escaping the forest and seeking Alazan’s power, leaving the extent of Gorini’s control unresolved. 445
