| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Erosion Entity |
| Alias(es) | 侵蚀体 (original name) |
| Species/Race | Specialized life form associated with Erosion Disasters |
| Status | Ongoing threat; cannot be completely eliminated while White Hole Erosion persists 167 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 3 3 |
Nature and Origin
Erosion Entities emerge alongside Erosion Disasters. Their ultimate origin and formation remain unknown, but their appearance is consistently linked to abnormal fluctuations and accumulations of Corruption Energy 139.
Their essential composition is Corruption Energy rather than ordinary flesh and blood. Destroying a limb or body part does not necessarily kill one; complete elimination requires an Agent to use Order Force and Exile it 76.
- Infection by an Erosion Entity can cause bodily functions to fail. In severe cases, the victim becomes a Dreg: a human stripped of emotion and driven by bloodlust and destruction 4.
- An Entity that has not been fully Exiled can repair itself over time, while Agents cannot recover their consumed Order Force so readily 163.
- As long as White Hole Erosion exists, further Erosion Entities will continue to emerge regardless of how many are destroyed 167.
Behavior and Senses
Erosion Entities primarily track humans through an unidentified biological signal fluctuation. Their pursuit has been compared to a snake tracking prey 253.
- They generally show little interest in animals unless the animals approach closely enough to be sensed 152.
- Electrical equipment and sudden energy releases can attract their attention; decoy missiles and lure shells exploit this behavior to redirect wandering Entities 79 154.
- Lures are unreliable: noise, movement, or an Entity accidentally entering a shielded area can still force an engagement 154.
- In normal conditions, many Entities wander aimlessly. However, irregular appearances and coordinated movement have raised suspicions of outside manipulation 79 80.
Corruption Energy States
Corruption Energy can enter passive and active states, apparently under a will-like mechanism within the Entity.
- Passive state — Physical attacks such as bullets, blades, and explosions may pass through without causing effective damage 180.
- Active state — Corruption Energy manifests physical force, allowing an Entity's attacks to damage matter and repel obstructions 180 181.
- Regeneration — Incomplete destruction allows an Entity to restore itself after a period of time 163.
- Limitation — Order Force can directly counter Corruption Energy and permanently Exile an Entity 76.
Classification
An Erosion Entity's rank is tied to the energy reaction level of its associated Erosion Disaster. The Human Federation classifies these threats from D to S 139.
| Classification | Recorded threat information |
|---|---|
| D–S | The standard five-bracket classification system for Erosion Disasters and their Entities, based on energy reaction level 139 |
| B-Rank | Can force an Agent into a difficult battle Beyond the Boundary; a Grade-B Entity retained exceptional speed even while suppressed by the Boundary Stele System 154 178 |
| A-Rank | The most dangerous Erosion Entities known to be summoned by the Apostle Organization 159 |
| S-Rank | Powerful enough to destroy a medium-sized city alone. Even all Second-Generation Agents combined would be unable to defeat one, according to Efnir's assessment 154 |
S-Rank Erosion Entities are exceptionally rare, but humanity's encounters with them have generally caused catastrophic losses. Records of Agents battling an S-Rank Entity and retreating unharmed are believed to number fewer than five across the Human Federation 139.
Known Forms
| Form | Description | Chapter |
|---|---|---|
| Whale-type | A massive flying Entity with high durability that moves by flying and hovering. It has limited aggression, no clearly observed attack pattern, and emits an incomprehensible shriek. Crow-type Entities were observed protecting it during a later disaster. | 62 |
| Crow-type | Flying Entities observed acting as protection for a Whale-type Entity. | 62 |
| Rooftop reptilian type | A half-upright Entity as large as an SUV, with massive feet, black fangs, and a long tail. | 76 |
| Crocodile-like type | A large ground-based Entity observed moving slowly through an urban district before being engaged by Efnir. | 79 |
| Evolved type | An Entity witnessed increasing from roughly two meters to over five meters tall, growing bone spurs and expanding to the size of a tank. | 88 |
| Burrowing crocodile type | A gigantic subterranean Entity capable of erupting beneath a formation, overturning armored vehicles, and attacking with a razor-sharp tail spine. | 154 |
Countermeasures
Boundary Stele System
Boundary Steles form a network around human cities that isolates Corruption Energy, blocks Erosion Entity perception, and suppresses Corruption Energy activity 178.
- The system allows Orderkeepers to calculate likely emergence points through changes in Boundary Stele vibrations 16.
- Within a Boundary Stele Field, Erosion Entity abilities are substantially weakened 178.
- The system is not infallible; large-scale incursions have crossed its detection network without warning 16.
Agent Exile
Agents use Beacons to resonate with Order Force, granting them the means to resist Corruption and eliminate Erosion Entities 73.
- Order Force is necessary for decisive kills; physical destruction alone may only incapacitate an Entity 76.
- Exiled Entities disperse into starlight 76.
- Agents must manage their stamina and Order Force reserves, as prolonged combat can cause loss of Synchronization and leave them vulnerable to infection 5.
Lure Devices
Lure shells and decoy missiles create energy bursts that can draw nearby Erosion Entities away from personnel and routes of advance 154.
- They are used to reduce unnecessary combat and preserve Agent strength 154.
- Entities may ignore the lures, particularly during frenzied assaults or when their movement patterns cannot be predicted 154 178.
Notable Incidents
| Incident | Erosion Entity involvement |
|---|---|
| Xijing City Orderkeeper Headquarters Disaster | A Special A-class Erosion Disaster nearly overran Orderkeeper Headquarters. Efnir destroyed two of three Floating Islands, while one escaped; the disaster ended after the Whale disappeared and the remaining Entities and Dregs were cleared 5 6 139. |
| West Line Disaster | Erosion Entities abruptly infiltrated the Inner Boundary and caused immediate casualties, with newly transformed Dregs attacking others 75. |
| Apostle crystal incidents | Apostles used crystal blocks to draw out Erosion Entities and devastate urban areas. Efnir captured a man carrying crystals identified as the source of newly appearing Entities 80 159. |
| Maesakagawa operation | The force encountered numerous varieties Beyond the Boundary, including C- and B-Rank Entities, an A-Rank burrowing Entity, and later mass attacks supported by Apostles 154 161 163. |
| Hezhe Town anomaly | Efnir found Hezhe Town unnaturally devoid of Erosion Entities and Dregs, coinciding with thinning white mist. Ten kilometers away, normal Beyond-the-Boundary conditions—including roaming Entities and Dregs—remained intact 253 254. |
