Newly advanced Kage level (temporary) 8 Activated the forbidden Blood-Burning Technique, burning his bloodline to multiply his chakra and briefly contend with Kage-level opponents.

Background / History

Genji was once regarded as the Kaguya Clan's greatest prospect. Having awakened the Dead Bone Pulse early, he rapidly developed its taijutsu and bloodline techniques, earning a reputation across the shinobi world. By age fourteen, he had already become an elite jōnin of Hidden Mist Village. 1

At age twenty, Genji joined the Second Mizukage, Gengetsu Hōzuki, in a surprise attack on the Land of Earth. The force was ambushed by the Second Tsuchikage, Mū; Gengetsu and Mū perished, while Genji was among only eight survivors to return from the breakout. His chakra pathways were irreparably damaged, ending his rise and reducing his usable strength to that of an ordinary jōnin. 1

Before the injury, Genji was expected to inherit leadership of the Kaguya Clan. His older brother, Kaguya Musashi, exploited Genji's weakened condition, allied with clan elders, claimed the position for himself, and repeatedly suppressed him. 1 Genji married Kaguya Yukiko, the Sixth Elder's daughter, to preserve the Dead Bone Pulse bloodline; their son, Qing Si, was born the following year. 1

After Qing Si was born with horns, Musashi used the alleged “mutation” as justification to expel Genji's family to an isolated border hamlet. Their situation worsened when the Sixth Elder disappeared on a mission, leaving Genji's branch without support. 6 Yukiko later died after being denied medical treatment while the family was kept under Musashi's surveillance. 1

Qing Si's awakening of the Dead Bone Pulse gave Genji renewed purpose. He concealed the event from Musashi's guards, taught Qing Si the basics of their bloodline, gifted him chakra-reinforced bone blades, and entrusted him with the branch family's bloodline scroll. 2 4

When Jigen arrived to seize Qing Si as Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's future vessel, Genji chose to fight despite his damaged body. By using the Blood-Burning Technique, he forced Jigen into Kāma states, severely wounded him with the Dance of the Clematis and Dance of the Bracken, and pushed Jigen's body to collapse. 7 8 After Isshiki reincarnated and pursued Qing Si, Genji spent his final strength to intervene. He ultimately used the Ash Bones Technique at point-blank range, fatally wounding Isshiki at the cost of his own life. 9

Personality

Genji was once a celebrated prodigy, but his injuries, exile, and Yukiko's death left him withdrawn and deeply disheartened. Even so, he retained his pride as a shinobi and his resentment toward Musashi, refusing to submit completely despite knowing he could not defeat both of Musashi's guards without risking his life. 1 2

His defining trait was his devotion to Qing Si. Genji concealed Qing Si's bloodline awakening, resumed teaching despite their dangerous circumstances, and repeatedly placed himself between his son and Isshiki. His final act was a deliberate sacrifice to give Qing Si a chance to live. 3 4 7 9

Abilities & Skills

Dead Bone Pulse

Genji possessed the Kaguya Clan's Dead Bone Pulse, a bloodline limit that allows him to manipulate his bones for offense and defense. His chakra-strengthened bones were exceptionally hard, and the bloodline enabled rapid healing after he extracted bone weapons from his body. 4

  • Could grow bone spikes from multiple parts of his body for close-range offense or defense. 4
  • Could extract his own bones as weapons while healing the wounds afterward. 4
  • Was one of only eight known Kaguya clansmen to awaken the Dead Bone Pulse. 1
  • His postwar chakra-pathway damage greatly limited his ability to use the bloodline. 1 4

Ten-Finger Bullet

Genji fired high-speed, piercing bone bullets from his fingertips.

  • Used the technique against Jigen while protecting Qing Si. 7
  • Recognized Qing Si's instinctive use of the same technique immediately after the boy's bloodline awakened. 2 3

Dance of the Camellia

Genji extracted bone blades from his forearms and used them in fluid, close-quarters taijutsu.

  • Used dual bone blades to pressure Jigen and restrict his ability to manifest black rods. 8
  • Created chakra-reinforced bone blades for Qing Si as a protective gift. 4

Dance of the Clematis

A two-stage Dead Bone Pulse technique combining restraint and piercing power.

  • Vine — turns the spine into a whip-like bone weapon capable of blocking attacks and binding an opponent. 8
  • Flower — forms a massive bone drill around the arm for a powerful finishing thrust. 7 8
  • Genji was the only Kaguya clansman known to wield this legendary dance before his severe injury. 1

Dance of the Bracken

Genji caused countless sharpened bones to erupt from the ground, creating a field of bone spikes.

  • Used the bone forest to pressure Jigen from all directions. 8
  • Moved through an intact bone spike to appear behind Jigen and launch a surprise Clematis attack. 8
  • Consumed substantial chakra. 5

Forbidden Secret Arts

Genji could use the Dead Bone Pulse's forbidden techniques as last resorts.

  • Blood-Burning Technique — burns the user's bloodline to produce immense chakra, temporarily raising an elite jōnin to Kage-level strength. Its aftermath drastically weakens the user by consuming their bloodline. 5 8
  • Ash Bones Technique — condenses the user's remaining chakra, life force, and bloodline into a gray bone spike with an annihilating effect upon contact. Genji used it to mortally wound Isshiki, then died as his body cracked apart. 9

Equipment / Items

  • Chakra-reinforced bone blades — a pair of blades Genji extracted from his own forearms, reinforced with chakra, and gave to Qing Si. 4
  • Branch family bloodline scroll — a scroll containing Dead Bone Pulse cultivation methods, taijutsu, and ninjutsu. Genji used Tool Summoning Technique to retrieve it and passed its training on to Qing Si. 4

Relationships

  • Qing Si — His son. Genji became Qing Si's first teacher after the Dead Bone Pulse awakened and died protecting him from Isshiki. 3 4 7 9
  • Kaguya Yukiko — His wife and the Sixth Elder's second daughter. She died in exile after being denied timely medical treatment. 1
  • Kaguya Musashi — His older brother and political enemy. Musashi seized the clan headship after Genji's injury, expelled Genji's family, and kept them under guard. 1 6
  • Gengetsu Hōzuki — The Second Mizukage. Genji served as captain of his Shadow Guard and joined his Land of Earth campaign. 1 15
  • Yuan Shi — A Hidden Mist elder who recommended Genji for the Shadow Guard and later regretted being unable to intervene in the Kaguya Clan's internal persecution of him. 15
  • Jigen / Isshiki Ōtsutsuki — The enemy who targeted Qing Si as a vessel. Genji fought Jigen to the brink of death, then sacrificed himself to fatally wound the reincarnated Isshiki. 7 8 9
