Background / History

Genji was once regarded as the Kaguya Clan's greatest prospect. Having awakened the Dead Bone Pulse early, he rapidly developed its taijutsu and bloodline techniques, earning a reputation across the shinobi world. By age fourteen, he had already become an elite jōnin of Hidden Mist Village. 1

At age twenty, Genji joined the Second Mizukage, Gengetsu Hōzuki, in a surprise attack on the Land of Earth. The force was ambushed by the Second Tsuchikage, Mū; Gengetsu and Mū perished, while Genji was among only eight survivors to return from the breakout. His chakra pathways were irreparably damaged, ending his rise and reducing his usable strength to that of an ordinary jōnin. 1

Before the injury, Genji was expected to inherit leadership of the Kaguya Clan. His older brother, Kaguya Musashi, exploited Genji's weakened condition, allied with clan elders, claimed the position for himself, and repeatedly suppressed him. 1 Genji married Kaguya Yukiko, the Sixth Elder's daughter, to preserve the Dead Bone Pulse bloodline; their son, Qing Si, was born the following year. 1

After Qing Si was born with horns, Musashi used the alleged “mutation” as justification to expel Genji's family to an isolated border hamlet. Their situation worsened when the Sixth Elder disappeared on a mission, leaving Genji's branch without support. 6 Yukiko later died after being denied medical treatment while the family was kept under Musashi's surveillance. 1

Qing Si's awakening of the Dead Bone Pulse gave Genji renewed purpose. He concealed the event from Musashi's guards, taught Qing Si the basics of their bloodline, gifted him chakra-reinforced bone blades, and entrusted him with the branch family's bloodline scroll. 2 4

When Jigen arrived to seize Qing Si as Isshiki Ōtsutsuki's future vessel, Genji chose to fight despite his damaged body. By using the Blood-Burning Technique, he forced Jigen into Kāma states, severely wounded him with the Dance of the Clematis and Dance of the Bracken, and pushed Jigen's body to collapse. 7 8 After Isshiki reincarnated and pursued Qing Si, Genji spent his final strength to intervene. He ultimately used the Ash Bones Technique at point-blank range, fatally wounding Isshiki at the cost of his own life. 9

Personality

Genji was once a celebrated prodigy, but his injuries, exile, and Yukiko's death left him withdrawn and deeply disheartened. Even so, he retained his pride as a shinobi and his resentment toward Musashi, refusing to submit completely despite knowing he could not defeat both of Musashi's guards without risking his life. 1 2

His defining trait was his devotion to Qing Si. Genji concealed Qing Si's bloodline awakening, resumed teaching despite their dangerous circumstances, and repeatedly placed himself between his son and Isshiki. His final act was a deliberate sacrifice to give Qing Si a chance to live. 3 4 7 9

Dead Bone Pulse

Genji possessed the Kaguya Clan's Dead Bone Pulse, a bloodline limit that allows him to manipulate his bones for offense and defense. His chakra-strengthened bones were exceptionally hard, and the bloodline enabled rapid healing after he extracted bone weapons from his body. 4
