Background / History

Yagura was born on April 3 of Hidden Mist Year 19. His father served in Second Mizukage Gengetsu Hōzuki's Shadow Guard and returned gravely injured from the Land of Earth campaign during the First Shinobi World War. He died not long after Yagura's birth; Yagura's mother later died after grieving for him. 30

Seeking to continue his father's legacy, Yagura aimed to become a jonin and join the Shadow Guard. He also considered becoming Mizukage, though he jokingly conceded that Qing Si was likely to claim the Fourth Mizukage position first. 30

At nine, Yagura joined Hidden Mist's ANBU alongside Qing Si. The two were assigned to Feng's Sixth Squad, where Yagura received the codename Mirror. 19 20

At age fourteen, Yagura is 143 cm tall and weighs 38.8 kg. He is notably short and has green hair. 24 31

Personality

Yagura is energetic, sociable, and talkative. He immediately introduced himself to Qing Si on their first meeting and repeatedly questioned how Qing Si had become so strong at the same age. 19

He is also proud and competitive. He dislikes conceding that Qing Si is stronger, boasts that their spars ended in draws, and eagerly asks for rematches even after being defeated. 25 43 His competitiveness can become recklessness: during a friendly spar, he launched a surprise attack the moment Qing Si agreed to fight. 27

Despite his bravado, Yagura values his teammates as family. He eventually accepted Qing Si as an older brother and relies on Qian Nai as an older-sister figure, even if her scolding leaves him intimidated. 25 30

ANBU Induction and First Mission

Yagura joined the ANBU with Qing Si and faced Feng in a joint assessment. Though initially outmatched by the jonin, he used Water Mirror Technique to stall Feng's Water Clone and earned a place in the Sixth Squad. 19 20

During the squad's first S-rank mission, Yagura used his sensory ability to investigate the heavily guarded residence of a Land of Water general. He helped gather intelligence, supported the assassination operation, and later received three million ryō from the bounty collected along the way. 21 22 25

Friendship with Qing Si and Qian Nai

Following the mission, Yagura, Qing Si, and Qian Nai became close enough to consider one another siblings. Yagura reluctantly began calling Qing Si “Brother Qing Si,” while Qian Nai became the group's de facto older sister. 24 25

He later challenged Qing Si to a two-on-one spar with Qian Nai. Although Yagura was quickly injured in the opening exchange, he adapted by pairing Water Mirror Technique with Qian Nai's Water Release attacks. 27 28

Rise to Jonin and Sixth Squad Captain

Over the following years, Yagura advanced to jonin level and surpassed Qian Nai in strength. 31 After Qing Si became captain of the ANBU First Division, Yagura assisted with recruiting new members and was entrusted with the Sixth Squad. 34 36

Yagura tested Kuriarare Kushimaru and Munashi Jinpachi before they were assigned under his command. Qing Si later arranged for Ao to become the final member of Yagura's squad. 35 36 38

Watching Hanzō and Continued Rivalry

Yagura accompanied Qing Si's group to observe Hanzō of the Salamander's battle with the Third Hokage. 38 41 On the return journey, he boasted to his subordinates that he and Qing Si had always fought to draws, prompting Qing Si to promise him another proper spar upon returning to Hidden Mist. 43
