Blackstone Pass conflict

Zhang Ling first confronted Ye Yun outside Blackstone Pass, attempting to suppress him through an aura clash. Ye Yun shattered his aura with ease, while General Baili Shouyue intervened to stop Zhang Ling’s servant from escaping punishment for murder. Zhang Ling withdrew only because provoking a conflict between the Great Luo and Great Chu Dynasties was politically unwise. 214

After Baili departed, Zhang Ling blocked Ye Yun’s path and attacked him, relying on his recent Perfected True Essence Realm advancement. The two exchanged more than a hundred moves, with Zhang Ling shocked that a Middle True Essence Realm opponent could fight at the level of a Late True Essence Realm martial artist. 215

During the battle, Zhang Ling’s coachman launched a concealed Early True Essence Realm sneak attack. Ye Yun killed the coachman, provoking Zhang Ling into revealing Fire Force, the Great Sun Golden Flame Palm, and eventually the Blazing Sun Art. 216 217

The clash ended without a decisive victor after Zhang Ling’s True Essence ran low and Ye Yun sensed the killing intent of Zhang Ling’s hidden Dao Protector. Ye Yun then exploited Zhang Ling’s jealousy over Qing Shuang, selling him information about her connection to Tang Shan for 30,000 Low-Grade Spirit Stones. Zhang Ling’s reaction to Tang Shan’s name was so extreme that he immediately abandoned the confrontation and returned to the Great Luo Dynasty. 218 219 220

Dragonhead City trap

By the time Ye Yun arrived in Sea-Calming City, Zhang Ling had married Qing Shuang for the Jade Marrow Fluid and regarded her as disposable. He had Liu Haizhu captured, tortured, and publicly used as bait to lure Ye Yun into the Zhang Lineage’s territory. 260

Zhang Ling secretly advanced to the Core Elixir Realm and planned to use the breakthrough to kill Ye Yun publicly. With Zhang Wentian’s approval, he also intended to murder Qing Shuang during the attempt, frame Ye Yun for her death, and use the resulting conflict to draw the Qing Family into an alliance against the Purple Extreme Sect. 263 265

Ye Yun infiltrated the Zhang Lineage estate, rescued Liu Haizhu, and escaped Dragonhead City. Zhang Ling pursued them, forcing Ye Yun to arrange a duel at Clearwater River. 266 267

Death at Clearwater River

At Clearwater River, Zhang Ling revealed his Core Elixir Realm cultivation and Perfection Realm Fire Force. His Great Sun Golden Flame Palm and Blazing Sun Art initially matched Ye Yun’s strength, but Ye Yun entered the Selfless Realm, read Zhang Ling’s movements, and systematically exhausted his True Essence. 268 269

Zhang Ling attempted to flee toward Dragonhead City, but Ye Yun used the Limit of Repeated Tempering to overtake and subdue him. When bargaining for his life, Zhang Ling disclosed that the Zhang Lineage possessed three other Core Elixir Realm martial artists—his father and two supreme elders—and revealed that his rapid progress came from repairing the defect in his Heavenly Eunuch Constitution. 270 271

Ye Yun judged Zhang Ling too dangerous to spare and killed him with an icy-blue punch that shattered his heart meridians. Zhang Wentian arrived moments later, witnessed his son’s death, and summoned Zhang Lineage reinforcements. 271

He was politically calculating when advantageous: he concealed his Core Elixir Realm breakthrough, used Liu Haizhu as bait, and devised a plan to murder Qing Shuang and frame Ye Yun in order to manipulate the Qing Family. 263 265

His pride was also his greatest weakness. Ye Yun repeatedly controlled him by invoking Qing Shuang and Tang Shan, driving Zhang Ling into jealousy and rage until he squandered much of his True Essence in reckless attacks. 218 219 269 270
