Soul Power and Advancement

• Martial Souls awaken at the age of six. A person needs at least a trace of Innate Soul Power to qualify as a Spirit Master; those without it cannot cultivate as one 478 890.
• Soul Power permeates the environment and can be absorbed through meditation. This method is steady but slow, with progress depending heavily on aptitude and effort 13.
• Advancing requires increasingly large reserves of Soul Power. Impure Soul Power accumulated through careless cultivation can clog meridians, damage aptitude, and halt future progress 485.
• Obtaining a Soul Ring feeds comparatively pure Soul Power back to its bearer. Older Soul Beasts provide purer Soul Power, reinforcing the advantage held by stronger Spirit Masters and major factions 485.
• A Soul Saint is generally regarded as the dividing line between lower- and high-level Spirit Masters because the Martial Soul Avatar multiplies combat power 600.

Soul Rings

Soul Rings are normally produced when Soul Beasts are killed. They enhance a Spirit Master’s Martial Soul and usually grant soul skills 13 23.

Absorption requirements

• A Spirit Master’s body must be able to endure the Soul Ring’s power. Attempting to absorb a ring beyond one’s limit can cause the body to explode and result in death 13.
• Soul Beast resentment makes ring absorption extremely painful 13.
• A Soul Beast’s attributes should match the Spirit Master’s Martial Soul; compatible rings are more likely to yield powerful soul skills 13.
• Common civilian Spirit Masters often begin with weak ten-year or several-decade rings because of limited Soul Beast knowledge and low-level guidance 822.
• Major sects maintain Soul Beast Compendiums recording Soul Beast habitats, traits, and skills, allowing their members to select rings more effectively 822.

Martial Souls

Every Spirit Master possesses Martial Soul power. Martial Souls determine a cultivator’s basic combat tendencies, though soul skills, Soul Ring selection, training, and combat experience can greatly alter how they fight 8 70.

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls commonly enhance the user’s body during Martial Soul Possession, improving physical strength, speed, resilience, or other animal-like traits 292 354.

• Greater physical transformation after possession is generally treated as a sign of higher compatibility with the Martial Soul and a stronger Martial Soul grade 354.
• Beast Martial Souls are particularly helpful when resisting Soul Power pressure, as they provide direct enhancement to the user’s body 203.
• At higher levels, their physical enhancement becomes less decisive relative to the potential of powerful Weapon Martial Souls 354.

Weapon Martial Souls

Weapon Martial Souls manifest as tools, weapons, or other implements and are especially common among control-type Spirit Masters 170.

• They may be less advantageous for direct bodily reinforcement than Beast Martial Souls 203.
• In later stages of cultivation, Weapon Martial Souls can become exceptionally dangerous; many fearsome Titled Douluo wield Weapon Martial Souls 354.
• Their applications vary widely, from direct offense to control, defense, support, and specialized effects 170 233.

Combat Classifications

Spirit Masters are commonly classified by combat role rather than rank alone 233.

• Most Spirit Masters specialize in one direction. This can produce exceptional strength within a chosen field but leaves clear weaknesses against countering opponents or unfavorable environments 831.
• Selecting Soul Rings from a single Soul Beast lineage can create extreme attribute specialization, but such builds are difficult to complete and may become one-dimensional 233.
• Self-created soul skills can be developed through training and study of Soul Ring abilities, but they are rare among common Spirit Masters below Level 30 24 826.

Martial Soul Avatar

A Martial Soul Avatar becomes available after reaching Level 70 and entering the Soul Saint stage 154 600.

• It greatly increases overall combat strength, with more powerful Martial Souls receiving more dramatic benefits 600.
• While active, it allows unrestricted use of soul skills from the first through sixth Soul Rings at comparatively low Soul Power cost 154.
• Using an Avatar causes a subsequent period of weakness 154.

Spiritual Power

Spiritual power is separate from Soul Power and is difficult to cultivate. Most Spirit Masters only begin seriously developing it after becoming Soul Saints 854 981.

Spirit Hall and Society

• Spirit Hall oversees rank certification, Spirit Master disputes, and the granting of Titled Douluo titles through its Papal Hall 478.
• Registered Spirit Masters receive a state subsidy of one Gold Soul Coin per month; exclusive Spirit Hall Spirit Masters may receive tuition-free schooling and further subsidies 48.
• At least one-third of the continent’s Spirit Masters are affiliated with Spirit Hall, giving the organization extensive influence and manpower 416.
