Background

Tang San was an elite of the Tang Sect in his previous life. Its inner-branch tradition centered on hidden weapons, lightness skills, and martial techniques; Tang San cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Manual, which he regarded as his greatest secret 3 5.

He grew up alongside Yang Ming in Holy Soul Village. Although Yang Ming was born only three seconds earlier, he persistently called Tang San “Third Brother,” treating him as a younger sibling. Tang San initially resented the imposed seniority but eventually accepted their close, sibling-like dynamic 1 2.

Before his Martial Soul awakening, Tang San trained daily on the village hill. He considered Yang Ming’s basic physical exercises inefficient compared with his own Mysterious Heaven Skill, yet Yang Ming’s sudden ability to imitate Tang Sect techniques made Tang San suspicious and challenged his pride 1 5 6.

Appearance

Tang San is a boy around Yang Ming’s age, with a plain but clean appearance.

  • Short, neat black hair 1
  • Healthy wheat-colored skin from frequent sun exposure 1
  • Initially wore plain clothing; later received the standard white uniform of Notting Junior Soul Master Academy 1 27
  • His handsome features were left badly swollen and disfigured after Li Ren’s interrogation in the Spirit Hunting Forest 36 37

Personality

Tang San is proud, disciplined, and highly protective of the techniques he inherited from the Tang Sect. Yang Ming’s apparent ability to learn Tang Sect methods through observation initially drives Tang San to suspicion and aggression, but he ultimately recognizes Yang Ming as a worthy rival 5 6.

His competitive nature does not diminish his loyalty. After seeing Yang Ming defeat bandits and later face enemies far above his level, Tang San resolves to improve rather than retreat. He and Yang Ming explicitly pledge to support each other as brothers 12 17 18.

Tang San is also perceptive and cautious. He immediately recognizes hostile intent when Li Ren and Wang Zhong ask after Yang Ming, and he refuses to reveal Yang Ming’s location despite being captured and tortured 35 36.

Abilities & Skills

Mysterious Heaven Skill

Tang San’s internal cultivation method gives him physical capabilities beyond those of ordinary children and provides the inner force used to empower his techniques 1 2 7.

  • Supports his exceptional speed and mobility 2
  • Channels inner force into improvised hidden weapons, including leaves and strips of cloth 7
  • Helps sustain him through extreme injuries and poison after his capture 40

Purple Demon Eyes

Tang San’s eye-training technique had reached the Subtlety realm by age six 7.

  • Enhances perception sufficiently for effective hidden-weapon use 7
  • Has four documented stages: Panorama, Subtlety, Atom, and Vastness 7
  • His current Subtlety realm is not enough to overcome Yang Ming’s superior reaction speed during their spar 7

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

A Tang Sect movement technique that lets Tang San cross rough terrain at high speed, with individual steps covering nearly ten feet 3.

  • Allows him to move over uneven mountain paths as though on level ground 3
  • Used to pursue Yang Ming during their race 2
  • Used to evade Li Ren and flee into the forest 36
  • Cannot overcome Wang Zhong’s large-scale Thorn entanglement, which seals his escape routes 36

Mysterious Jade Hand

A hand-training technique that hardens Tang San’s palms and grants them resistance to toxins 5.

  • Protects his hands while blacksmithing and blocking strikes 5 7
  • Lets him block Yang Ming’s rapid spear thrusts, though the strikes still numb his body through the weapon 7
  • Its poison resistance is limited to his hands and does not protect wounds across the rest of his body 40

Seize Crane, Capture Dragon

A grappling method that produces a suction force from the palm to redirect or pull an opponent’s attack 3 6.

  • Redirects Yang Ming’s punch during their mountain spar 6
  • Is matched directly by Yang Ming after the latter copies the technique 6

Hidden Weapons

As a Tang Sect elite, Tang San is trained in the use of hidden weapons and has personally forged concealed projectiles 3 36.

  • Can launch a leaf hardened with inner force as a projectile 7
  • Uses torn cloth infused with inner force as a defensive barrage while airborne 7
  • Employs the Whirling-Hand Arrow, an entry-level Tang Sect launch technique 36
  • His diamond-shaped weapons fail to injure Li Ren’s defensive body 35 36

Martial Souls

Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass as his visible Martial Soul and sensed a second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, within his left hand 11.

  • Blue Silver Grass is initially dismissed by Cao Mengyun as a useless Martial Soul 11
  • His dual-Martial-Soul potential is exceedingly rare 11
  • He possesses Innate Full Soul Power 11 20
