Shen He gave a helpless bitter smile.

He truly had rarely felt so helpless before.

Vellia's eyes never left Shen He for even a moment. Even when warm water flowed into them, she kept them open without blinking. As she listened to Shen He give commands she could not understand, something inexplicable suddenly surfaced in her mind. Driven by it, she slowly opened her mouth. "Master."

Shen He's movements abruptly stopped.

Good heavens, he actually felt like a daughter was speaking for the first time.

"What else can you say?"

Shen He's washing movements became even gentler.

"Master."

"That's all you can say? What about your own name, Vellia?"

"Master."

"No, not that. Repeat after me, Vellia."

Shen He had never known he could be this patient, but no matter what he said, Vellia only kept repeating the two words "Master," as though she wanted to reinforce the memory in this way.

Shen He ran to the refrigerator, took out a piece of strawberry cake, and held it out to Vellia.

Vellia's delicate nose twitched like that of a small animal. She stretched out her tiny fingers, grabbed a small piece, and put it in her mouth. The sudden burst of flavor made her eyes widen at once. After glancing at Shen He and confirming that it was food meant for her, she immediately buried her whole face in it and began swallowing great mouthfuls.

"Eat slowly..."

Shen He gently stroked the girl's back, both amused and sympathetic.

Had he raised a daughter, or a pet?

But it was all the same. As long as she was cute, that was enough.

After getting up to pull the sheet over Shiki on the bed, Shen He had JARVIS open a virtual screen so he could browse the internet and figure out where to get some money.
