Avengers

Over at Nick Fury's side.

He opened his computer. It contained a top-secret file, titled—the Avengers Initiative!

This document had been established as early as the last century, when Captain Marvel had just left.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had detected more and more alien civilizations, and more and more powerful beings descending upon Earth. They simply did not take Earth seriously, fighting freely here and even committing massacres.

Nick Fury had realized that conventional weapons and combat philosophies could no longer deal with these powerful beings.

Only strength could stand against strength, keeping alien enemies at bay. They might even need to strike back, making them dare not underestimate Earth. That was the original purpose of the Avengers.

And the name came from one of Captain Marvel's fighter jets.

Now, several names were simply written on the document:

Captain Marvel—Carol Danvers

Captain America—Steve Rogers

Iron Man—Tony Stark

Hulk—Hulk (primary personality: Doctor Banner)

Hawkeye—Clint Barton

Black Widow—Natasha Romanoff

War Machine—Colonel James Rhodes

Easterner—Tang Tianqi

These were all adjusted by Nick Fury according to the actual situation, added or removed whenever necessary.

His fingers now seemed to weigh a thousand pounds as they rested on the delete key. He erased the three characters "Tang Tianqi," one space at a time.

Nick Fury took out an inconspicuous pager. A gold-and-red emblem appeared on it: a golden star in the center, with abstract red wings extending from either side.

It was the Interstellar Pager Captain Marvel had left with Nick Fury.

This pager had originally been nothing more than a technological product of Earth from the last century. Captain Marvel had adapted it with Kree civilization technology, allowing its signal to reach across the Milky Way.

No matter where she was, she would receive it.
