Background
Natasha was trained from childhood by the Red Room, which made her a ruthless and infamous operative. She does not know her birth parents; the Red Room’s general told her they were dead and that even their graves could not be found. The organization also removed her uterus so that she could not have children, denying her the family life she secretly longed for. After defecting, she found a measure of stability with S.H.I.E.L.D. 1
Before the main events, Natasha entered the City of God under the alias Roland and approached florist Tang Tianqi, later known as Apocalypse. She seduced him, arranged a rapid marriage, and used the wedding reception to assassinate drug lord Flying Eagle with poison hidden beneath her fingernails. She left Tang afterward with a note insisting that none of it had been real. 1 2
Despite treating the marriage as a mission cover, Natasha had been moved by Tang’s quiet life among his flowers and briefly wished she could remain with him. She stayed for an additional night, then left because she believed remaining with an ordinary person would endanger them both. 9
Appearance
Natasha is repeatedly described as exceptionally beautiful, with an allure that has made her appearance one of her most effective tools as an agent. 1 9
- Wore a white wedding dress during her staged marriage to Tang Tianqi. 1
- Presented herself at Stark Industries as a sharply dressed legal-department assistant in a white shirt and black suit trousers. 18
- Uses a tight combat suit while conducting field operations. 26
Personality
Natasha is highly disciplined and mission-focused. She has carried out countless operations, including morally compromising ones and accidental killings, without hesitation; she is capable of using affection, marriage, and apparent vulnerability as operational tools. 1 2
Her composure weakens when her personal life is involved. Tang’s discovery of her identity, his attack on S.H.I.E.L.D., and his insistence on treating their marriage seriously leave her uncertain how to face him. She wants a home and family, but fears that her life as an agent makes those desires impossible. 9 19
When Apocalypse disappears for two years in Asgard, Natasha becomes increasingly anxious and changes her field style. Rather than feigning helplessness or relying on seduction, she becomes direct, violent, and intimidating in interrogations. 50
Abilities & Skills
Red Room Spycraft
Natasha is an elite infiltrator trained in deception, covert identities, interrogation, and seduction.
- Maintains thirty-seven passports, more than a dozen of which identify her as married for mission cover. 9

- Operated at Stark Industries as “Natasha Rushman,” ostensibly a legal-department assistant. 18

- Concealed an almost imperceptible powder beneath her fingernails during the wedding toast. 1
- Poisoned Flying Eagle despite his precautions, including drinking only from his own bottle and glass. 1 2
Close-Quarters Combat
Although she has no superpowers, Natasha is an exceptionally capable human combatant.
- Instinctively countered Happy Hogan’s touch with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu takedown and neck lock, forcing his surrender. 18
- Swiftly disabled security guards at Hammer Building before pursuing Ivan Vanko. 26
- Shifted to brutal direct-action tactics during Apocalypse’s absence, using a whip while interrogating arms dealers. 50

- Nick Fury — Her S.H.I.E.L.D. director. Fury recognizes that her relationship with Apocalypse is personal rather than operational and orders her to stop using seduction in missions. 8 9
- Clint Barton / Hawkeye — Trusted colleague and close friend. Natasha knows his family, and his children call her their godmother; she panics when Apocalypse jokingly implies that Hawkeye may be in danger. 33 34
- Tony Stark / Iron Man — She infiltrates Stark Industries as Natasha Rushman to assess him for S.H.I.E.L.D. She avoids his advances and later aids in responding to Ivan Vanko’s attacks. 18 21 26
