Appearance
Xie Xie is first depicted at age nine, with notably lively eyes and expressive eyebrows that visibly move when he talks. His quick, restless manner is likened to that of a natural agility-type fighter. 27
- Carries his dagger in a strap on his calf. 27
- Often reacts visibly to surprise, pressure, or excitement. 31 32
- Later bears fresh battle marks on his Light Dragon Dagger. 67
Personality
Xie Xie is sociable, bold, and highly practical. On his first evening with Tang Wulin, he brings food, openly offers his services, and seeks to train beside Tang Wulin and Gu Yue rather than compete against them alone. He is willing to accept possible isolation from the rest of Class Zero if joining stronger allies improves his future. 27
He is excitable, boastful after victories, and easily embarrassed when his flaws are exposed. Lu Menge’s precise criticism teaches him that speed without positioning, awareness, and defensive preparation will get him defeated. Rather than withdrawing, he internalizes the feedback and rapidly corrects his habits. 32 33
Xie Xie is also curious and persistent. He spends three days questioning Tang Wulin about Golden Dragon Skybreak, is eager to understand unfamiliar techniques, and treats his customized off-hand blade as a lucky charm. 29 60
Abilities & Skills
Light Dragon Dagger
Xie Xie’s martial soul is the Light Dragon Dagger, an agility-type dagger martial soul suited to speed, evasive movement, ambushes, and attacks through blind spots. 27 28
- Excels at prolonged evasive exchanges; among Tang Wulin’s Class Zero challengers, he lasts the longest against Tang Wulin’s suppressed-cultivation gauntlet. 28
- Uses quick flanking attacks to exploit openings created by allies, including eliminating Wang Jinxi from his blind spot during a terrain exercise. 32
- Fights with a Light Dragon Dagger in his right hand and a secondary short blade in his left hand for interception and defense. 60
- Initially leaves his left hand unused and exposes himself to counterattacks while attacking. 32
- Learns to hold his left-hand dagger in a defensive position automatically and to clear leaves or footprints that might reveal his movement route. 33
Infiltration and Flanking
Xie Xie functions as Class Zero’s fast rear-line attacker, entering through openings created by Tang Wulin’s battlefield pressure and Gu Yue’s Water Mirrors. 59 62
- Researches opponents’ martial souls before battle, identifying Zhang Yangzi’s Dark Phantom Eagle and Wang Jinxi’s defensive Bone Dragon martial soul before Tang Wulin asks him to investigate. 27
- Uses blind spots in Water-Mirror Reflection to penetrate enemy formations. 59 62
- Helps seal enemies’ counterattack routes with his off-hand blade while striking with his main dagger. 62
- Must remain alert to reflected images, terrain traces, and hidden attacks; Gu Yue repeatedly exploits his tendency to overlook these details. 32 57
Adaptability
Training under Lu Menge and Wu Changkong develops Xie Xie from a speed-focused fighter into a more complete combatant. 32 33
- Learns to assess the environment before acting rather than relying solely on quick movement. 32 81
- Adjusts his left-hand interception timing after receiving targeted instruction and a tailored weapon. 33 60
- Successfully demonstrates improved control of the Light Dragon Dagger during Shrek Academy’s entrance examination. 81
Equipment
- Light Dragon Dagger — His primary agility-type dagger martial soul and main weapon. 27
- Custom off-hand short blade — Forged by Tang Wulin for left-hand interception; it is lighter than his main dagger and has a forward-shifted center of gravity to better suit his left-hand force application. 60
- Calf dagger straps — Used to carry and quickly draw his blades. 27 29
Background / History
Xie Xie is selected from First-Year Class One to join Eastsea Academy’s elite pilot class, First-Year Class Zero, alongside Tang Wulin and Gu Yue. Though confident and socially assertive, he is initially less powerful than the pair and recognizes that their special treatment and strength have made them the center of attention. 26
Before Class Zero’s first practical lesson, he approaches Tang Wulin with grilled squid and sesame sugar cakes. He has already noticed Tang Wulin’s connection to Lu Menge and the unusual circumstances surrounding Tang Wulin and Gu Yue, but chooses not to pry. Instead, he proposes an alliance: he will gather intelligence, handle errands, and monitor potential rivals in exchange for training with them. 27
His first direct measure of Tang Wulin’s strength comes in the Class Zero gauntlet. Xie Xie uses his speed and Light Dragon Dagger to pressure Tang Wulin more effectively than the other challengers, but is ultimately defeated by Golden Dragon Skybreak. Rather than resent the loss, he becomes fascinated by Tang Wulin’s techniques and seeks to learn more. 28 29
Story Role / Major Arcs
Class Zero Training
Xie Xie becomes a central example of Lu Menge’s tactical teaching style. After celebrating an easy terrain-battle victory, he is dissected for failing to use his left hand defensively, leaving tracks in the terrain, and exposing his position to aerial observation. Lu Menge then switches him to the opposing team while restricting Tang Wulin and Gu Yue, forcing him to experience the consequences of those mistakes firsthand. 32
He responds quickly to the pressure. By the afternoon session, his left-hand dagger enters a defensive position instinctively, he clears fallen leaves before moving through cover, and he uses more refined flanking routes. Lu Menge specifically praises him for correcting the same errors he had made that morning. 33
Weapon Forging Support
Tang Wulin observes that Xie Xie’s off-hand weapon does not match the rhythm of his primary dagger techniques. He designs a specialized left-hand short blade with an adjusted guard and balance based on the differences between Xie Xie’s hands. 45
Lu Menge presents the completed blade before a tournament match, explaining that its lighter weight and forward center of gravity should improve Xie Xie’s interception speed. Xie Xie immediately recognizes its value and later credits it as a lucky charm, though Zhang Yangzi continues to point out his remaining positional errors. 60
Exchange Tournament
During Eastsea Academy’s exchange tournament, Xie Xie serves as Class Zero’s mobile infiltrator. He attacks through Gu Yue’s Water-Mirror blind spots, cooperates with Zhang Yangzi’s aerial suppression, and supports Tang Wulin’s battlefield breakthroughs. 59 62
Against Spirit Platform Academy, he adapts when vine binding and Slow Aura disrupt the team’s standard rhythm. Against Azure Radiance Academy, he uses his off-hand blade to block the Ironwall Shield’s counterattack route while striking the opposing rear line. 60 62
Graduation and Shrek Academy
Xie Xie is openly emotional at Class Zero’s graduation ceremony, crying as Wu Changkong and Lu Menge recognize the students they trained. 67
He later applies to Shrek Academy with the rest of the group. Although anxious about being separated from his teammates during the entrance examination, he follows Zhang Yangzi’s advice to assess the environment and avoid going all out immediately. He passes the interview stage after demonstrating control over his Light Dragon Dagger. 81
At Shrek, he remains energetic, competitive, and food-focused, but Lu Menge reminds him that his ambush tactics will only matter if he avoids overconfidence in the far more demanding environment of the Outer Court. 85
