Background / History
Golden Core Celestial Venerable rules the Golden Core Immortal Sect from within its mountain compound. He presents himself as a benevolent master who teaches his disciples the Golden Core Dao, but the sect's cultivation system transforms disciples into human-like trees bearing Golden Cores for stronger cultivators to consume. 1 5
The method given to disciples is the deliberately altered Yi-Wood Golden Core Feeding Formula. Every cultivation cycle woodifies the user's essence, blood, and lifespan until they form a Yi-Wood Dao Fruit for the formula's originator to consume and refine. 5
During his inspections, he personally judges the size, color, and taste of disciples' Golden Cores. A disciple with an insufficiently developed core may be killed and harvested immediately; those who fail to meet his standards are classified as “material” for the sect's human-skin, bone, and corpse-processing practices. 1 2
After Gu Qingfeng narrowly delays his own judgment, the Celestial Venerable continues forcing the sect's disciples to cultivate toward maturity. He uses the mutilated bodies of four attempted escapees, including Second Senior Brother Zhang Lei, as a public warning against disloyalty. 2 7
Before Gu Qingfeng's breakout, the Celestial Venerable enters a forbidden seclusion ground behind an enormous bronze door. His absence allows Zhang Yao and other senior disciples to prey upon weaker disciples, but also creates the opening Gu Qingfeng uses to escape. 9 12
Appearance
Golden Core Celestial Venerable is a notably short man, standing under five feet tall, yet possesses a “divinely handsome” face and an imposing presence that leaves his disciples terrified. 1 8
- Often reclines within the slit-open belly of a Maitreya Buddha statue in the Hall of Morality. 1
- Carries a red-covered scripture book while preaching. 1 8
- Reads aloud from scripture but skips characters he does not recognize. 1
- Emits golden radiance and immortal mist after consuming a disciple's Golden Core. 8
Personality
The Celestial Venerable is hypocritical, predatory, and controlling. He repeatedly calls his disciples family and claims to love them as his own children, while treating their bodies, lifespan, and cultivation as resources to be harvested. 1 7
He maintains obedience through ritualized terror. His sermons, praise, and apparent concern are regularly followed by threats, mutilation, or murder; even his warnings about escape are framed as grief over disciples who supposedly failed to “love the sect.” 1 7 8
He values results over loyalty or potential. Gu Qingfeng is granted a brief reprieve only because he argues that he may still form a worthwhile Golden Core, while the Celestial Venerable makes clear that anyone without a successful core is merely usable material. 2
Abilities & Skills
Yi-Wood Golden Core Feeding Formula
The Celestial Venerable is the originator and intended beneficiary of the corrupted Yi-Wood Golden Core Feeding Formula, which converts disciples into cultivable resources. 5
- Each cycle woodifies a disciple's essence, blood, and lifespan. 5
- The completed process produces a Yi-Wood Dao Fruit for him to consume and refine. 5
- The sect's Golden Cores are grown as fruit-like organs on Core Branches emerging from disciples' bodies. 1 4
- His cultivation system appears designed to ripen disciples for periodic harvesting rather than guide them toward genuine immortality. 5 8
Scripture-Based Suppression
His chanting renders ordinary disciples rigid and forces their Core Branches and Golden Cores to emerge. 1 8
- Immobilizes disciples during lessons and examinations. 1 8
- Leaves disciples vulnerable to inspection, mutilation, and harvesting. 1
- The suppression does not affect Gu Qingfeng after he reverses his cultivation into Geng-Metal power and sheds his status as an “ingredient.” 10
Golden Core Harvesting
He can pull Core Branches directly from disciples' bodies, judging their cultivation by the attached Golden Cores. 1
- Eats harvested Golden Cores and comments on their flavor and quality. 1
- Treats a damaged or undersized core as proof of a disciple's failure. 1
- Can tear out a disciple's main abdominal Core Branch, killing them instantly. 1
Sect Authority and Cultivation
He is regarded as the strongest figure in the Golden Core Immortal Sect; Zhang Yao, the sect's eldest senior sister, is described as second only to him. 11
- Commands a sect of roughly forty to fifty disciples, including inner disciples and favored relatives. 3 7
- Maintains a network of surveillance and suspected skin-wearing informants among the disciples. 6
- Keeps a forbidden seclusion ground in the back mountain, inaccessible even to Zhang Yao. 12
Equipment / Items
- Red-covered scripture — Used during sermons and suppressive chanting; he skips characters he does not know while reading it. 1 8
- Maitreya Buddha statue — His usual preaching seat in the Hall of Morality; he reclines inside its opened belly. 1
Relationships
- Gu Qingfeng — Master and primary persecutor. He attempts to cultivate Gu into a harvestable Yi-Wood resource, while Gu vows to return and kill him after escaping. 1 5 19
- Zhang Yao — His wife; she also claims to act as his daughter at times. She exploits his absence to consume disciples before Gu Qingfeng kills her. 10 11
- Wang Qian — Maternal nephew and favored disciple by rumor; Wang Qian invokes this connection while begging Gu Qingfeng for mercy. 7 11
- Golden Core Immortal Sect disciples — Nominal disciples whom he calls family, but cultivates as Golden Cores, Dao Fruits, food, or raw materials. 1 2 5
- Zhang Lei and the attempted escapees — Disciples murdered and displayed as a warning against fleeing the sect. 7

Gu Qingfeng's Reprieve
Gu Qingfeng persuades him to postpone judgment until the fifteenth of the month, claiming that his later entry into the sect means his potential has not yet been exhausted. The Celestial Venerable accepts the delay but warns that failure will reduce Gu to “material.” 2
Cultivation Prison
As Gu Qingfeng learns the true cost of the Yi-Wood Golden Core Feeding Formula, the Celestial Venerable becomes the central threat behind the sect's cultivation practices: disciples either fail and become materials or mature and are consumed. 5
Escape and Future Conflict
While the Celestial Venerable is in seclusion, Gu Qingfeng kills Zhang Yao, Third Senior Brother, and Wang Qian, then leads several disciples out through the Furnace Workshop's hidden route. After escaping, Gu vows to return, destroy the sect's monstrous tree, free its trapped victims, and kill the Celestial Venerable. 11 12 19
