Background / History

Sun Sheng was a favored disciple of the Ghost Physician Ghosthand, who entrusted him with managing Ghosthand’s Eighteenth Apothecary. Though he seldom appeared at the shop personally, its staff treated his rules as absolute; one person who questioned him reportedly vanished without leaving even flesh behind. 32 33

Drawing on Ghosthand’s principle that “all things can become medicine,” Sun Sheng developed the Liver Killing Qi Art into a method of harvesting power from others. He first tested the process on animals, then progressed to human subjects within a little over a month. 35

He refined the Liver-Severing Qi-Killing Pill, which caused a user’s liver to deteriorate and generate liver killing qi. Rather than endure the technique’s cost himself, Sun Sheng fed the pills to test subjects, absorbed their killing qi, and dissected their bodies to assess the results. 29 35

Wang Ping became his first successful human harvest. Sun Sheng murdered Wang Ping’s wife in front of him to provoke a final surge of grief-driven killing qi, then absorbed it as Wang Ping’s liver dissolved and his channels collapsed. 35 36
