Background / History

Independent Poison Master

Dugu Bo built his reputation through poison rather than superior single-opponent combat. Although known as the continent’s weakest Titled Douluo, he was exceptionally dangerous in warfare: his Jade Phosphorous Serpent Poison could render an entire army incapable of fighting. Prince Xue Xing recruited him as a guest official, but Dugu Bo remained independent and did not genuinely submit to the prince or the imperial family. He had also refused Spirit Hall’s earlier recruitment attempts 55 67.

Twenty years before bringing Bibi Xu there, Dugu Bo discovered the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Well in Sunset Forest. He guarded its valley and studied its treasures, learning that the spring could temper toxins. However, he lacked the knowledge to identify or safely consume its Immortal Herbs 61.

The Dugu Clan’s inherited serpent venom poisoned its own cultivators and shortened their lives. Dugu Bo could suppress his symptoms, but he could not eradicate the poison afflicting Dugu Yan. Her worsening condition became his greatest concern 55 56.

Recruitment by Bibi Xu

At Emperor Xue Ye’s birthday banquet, Dugu Bo dismissively received a toast from the apparent Crown Prince Xue Qinghe—actually Bibi Xu in disguise. Bibi Xu then privately mentioned Dugu Yan’s venom backlash. Shocked that an outsider knew his family’s secret, Dugu Bo abandoned his interest in the banquet and sought an explanation 55 56.

That night, he entered the Crown Prince’s Residence despite recognizing signs of a trap. Bibi Xu accurately described his private symptoms, prompting Dugu Bo to identify him as an impostor and attempt to seize him with a venom-coated claw. Ling Yuan intercepted the attack; Yue Guan’s appearance then exposed the group’s connection to Spirit Hall 57 58.

After revealing his identity, Bibi Xu offered treatment for both grandfather and granddaughter in exchange for covert assistance. Dugu Bo could retain his public Heaven Dou position while supplying information and acting when required. He accepted, received temporary poison-suppressing pills, and promised to monitor Prince Xue Xing 59 60.

Spirit Hall Elder and the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Well

Dugu Bo guided Bibi Xu, Yue Guan, and Ling Yuan through his poisonous defenses to the well. Bibi Xu rewarded him with the Azure Spirit Seven-Extremes Flower, a poison-compatible Immortal Herb, and formally appointed him a Spirit Hall Elder. Recognition of his abilities and promises of better training for Dugu Yan turned his conditional cooperation into genuine devotion. He subsequently reinforced the valley’s defenses, while control of its resources passed to Bibi Xu and Spirit Hall 60 61 63 67.

When Bibi Xu undertook ice-fire body tempering, Dugu Bo repeatedly warned him of the danger and offered to test the herbs himself. He guarded the spring throughout Bibi Xu’s three-day absence, using that time to form his Poison Core and advance to level 94. His own breakthrough brought little comfort until Bibi Xu resurfaced safely 64 66 67.

Northern Expedition and Later Cultivation

During Bibi Xu’s northern journey, Dugu Bo helped counter an assassination attempt by scattering poison powder into the forest. He later followed covertly during the investigation of Evernight City and poisoned Zhou Kun with Eroding Bone Powder to break his resistance 73 74 76.

In the Far North, he prepared to attack Snow Empress when she seized Bibi Xu, but withheld his poison to avoid endangering the hostage. He subsequently witnessed her transformation and expressed astonishment that Bibi Xu had persuaded such an ancient soul beast to follow him 80 84.

By his latest documented update, Dugu Bo was enhancing his Ninth Spirit Ring at the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Well. Bibi Xu instructed him and Ling Yuan to stabilize their cultivation rather than rush further improvements with the still-imperfect technique 92.

Appearance

Dugu Bo appears around fifty or sixty years old, with a tall, thin build and a waxy yellow complexion. His lazy gait contrasts with the fierce aura and Titled Douluo pressure that make nearby officials uneasy 55.

  • Hair: Unusual dark green 55.
  • Eyes: Jade-colored, with snake-like vertical pupils 55.
  • Clothing: A loose green robe 55.

Personality

Proud, aloof, and sharp-tongued, Dugu Bo dislikes official socializing and refuses to flatter royalty. At the birthday banquet, he remains seated during the crown prince’s toast and turns away after a perfunctory response. His independence also makes him overconfident: he initially assumes that no ambush in Heaven Dou could prevent his escape 55 58.

His devotion to Dugu Yan overrides his caution, pride, and political loyalties. He is willing to oppose the entire imperial family—or place his life at Bibi Xu’s disposal—if doing so can save her. Though arrogant, he values his word; Bibi Xu considers that sense of honor an important reason to recruit him 56 59 60.

Once convinced of Bibi Xu’s goodwill, Dugu Bo becomes grateful, obedient, and personally protective. He accepts the Elder appointment with visible emotion and worries intensely during Bibi Xu’s dangerous cultivation in the spring 63 64 66.

Abilities & Skills

Jade Phosphorous Serpent Poison

His Martial Soul supports corrosive venom attacks and large-scale poisoning, making him especially valuable against groups 55 58.

  • Can incapacitate an entire army when spread across a battlefield 55.
  • Coats his hand in venom for close-range attacks; falling droplets corrode pits into the floor 58.
  • Can disperse poison powder without summoning his Martial Soul 73.
  • Its inherited backlash disrupts Soul Power circulation and becomes more painful as cultivation rises 58.
  • Yue Guan’s plant-type Soul Power naturally counters his poison-based abilities 52.

Poison Core

Bibi Xu’s method and the Azure Spirit Seven-Extremes Flower allow Dugu Bo to consolidate his scattered venom and gain greater control over it 66.

  • Uses his Medusa Skull as part of the venom-transfer process 66.
  • Forms a mung-bean-sized jade-green Poison Core in his dantian 66.
  • Reduces his toxin backlash by 90% and more than doubles his poison arts’ power 66.
  • Continues purifying his serpent venom; Bibi Xu predicts that level 95 should become attainable, but no exact level-95 breakthrough is documented 67.

Poison Formations and Protective Barriers

Dugu Bo uses layered toxins to defend the Ice-Fire Yin-Yang Well and Soul Power barriers to guide allies through Sunset Forest 60 61.

  • His final poison curtain combines more than a dozen deadly toxins; anyone below Titled Douluo who touches it will die 61.
  • Opens a narrow passage through the curtain using hand seals and Soul Power 61.
  • Projects an emerald barrier that excludes the surrounding poisonous miasma 60.
  • Reinforces the valley’s poison formation after joining Spirit Hall 63.

Eroding Bone Powder

A poison used against Zhou Kun during Bibi Xu’s investigation 76.

  • A tiny speck on the hand produces severe itching, burning, and spreading pain 76.
  • Without an antidote within three hours, flesh begins rotting from the fingertips toward the bones, eventually causing an agonizing death 76.

Stealth

His Jade Phosphorous Serpent Martial Soul aids covert movement and aura concealment 57.

  • Enters the Eastern Palace as a nearly silent green shadow with his aura concealed 57.
  • Accompanies Bibi Xu covertly during the Evernight City investigation 74.
  • His palace infiltration occurs along a deliberately cleared route; it does not demonstrate that he bypassed the residence’s normal full security 57.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Medusa Skull — Soul Bone used in Bibi Xu’s venom-control method; no specific Soul Bone combat skill is documented 66.
  • Azure Spirit Seven-Extremes Flower — Immortal Herb gifted by Bibi Xu and consumed during his breakthrough to level 94 63 66.
  • Spirit Hall Elder Token — Black, gold-edged token bearing the Six-Winged Angel insignia and an “Elder” inscription 63.
  • Poison-suppressing pills — Receives twelve pills, six each for himself and Dugu Yan. Taken monthly, they suppress poison, ease backlash, and nourish the meridians 60.
  • Communication Soul Tool — Given by Bibi Xu; crushing it sends an emergency notification 60.
  • Dark-green gourd — Carried at his waist and used while drinking at the imperial banquet 55.

Relationships

  • Dugu Yan — His only granddaughter and foremost priority. Her inherited poisoning motivates his alliance with Bibi Xu. A treatment method is provided, but her completed cure is not directly shown 56 59 63.
  • Bibi Xu — Initially an object of suspicion, later his acknowledged master and benefactor. Provides medical aid, an Immortal Herb, cultivation guidance, and an Elder appointment 58 60 63 67.
  • Prince Xue Xing — His original political patron in Heaven Dou. Dugu Bo later agrees to monitor him for Bibi Xu while retaining his public position 55 60.
  • Yue Guan — A familiar, mocking rival whose abilities counter his poison; later a fellow member of Bibi Xu’s forces. Yue Guan is sincerely pleased by Dugu Bo’s recognition and recruitment 52 58 63.
  • Ling Yuan — Initially defeats and restrains him during his attack on Bibi Xu. They subsequently serve together as Bibi Xu’s protectors 58 74 80.
  • Bibi Dong — Pope of the organization he once refused to join. She learns of his recruitment and the transfer of the well through Yue Guan’s report 67.
