Background / History

Four thousand years before the current story, the Sun Moon Empire lost the Holy War against the former Three Douluo Kingdoms under Shrek Academy’s Ultimate Fire wielder. The defeat forced it to sign a surrender treaty, cede territory, pay reparations, and accept the renaming of Sun Moon Continent as Douluo Continent. This humiliation remains preserved in imperial records and shapes the empire’s desire for renewed strength. 7

The imperial clan recognizes three inherited Martial Souls: the Purple Radiant Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon, Sun, and Moon. Possessing one is the basic qualification for a prince to contend for the throne; noble birth alone does not ensure a useful Martial Soul or Innate Soul Power. 2

The former emperor’s attempt to retain Crown Prince Xu He as heir despite his lack of an inherited imperial Martial Soul provoked opposition from powerful princes and nobles. War Prince Xu Mo secretly secured broad royal backing, support from the Imperial Dragon and Terrorclaw Soul Engineer Legions, and an alliance with the Holy Spirit Cult. 4 5

Xu Mo’s forces launched a palace coup three days later. The four guardian legions surrounding Mingdu and the city’s nobles did not intervene, allowing the War Prince’s Residence troops to overwhelm the imperial guards. 8 The former imperial family was publicly declared dead by poisoning, while Mingdu was placed under martial law to search for the escaped Crown Prince Xu He. 9

After ceremonial refusals, Xu Mo accepted the throne seven days after the former emperor’s death. Public celebrations accompanied his accession, though the new regime remained threatened by Xu He’s escape, incomplete purges, and lingering court opposition. 9

Eastern Border War

White Tiger Duke Dai Hao of the Star Luo Empire exploited the instability following Xu Mo’s accession to strike the eastern border. His army captured three fortresses and advanced one hundred li into Sun Moon territory before the Evil Lord and Terrorclaw Legions counterattacked and forced it back beyond the Ming Dou Mountains. 30 31

The border suffered severe losses, and regional nobles forcibly conscripted civilians to reinforce the defensive line. 31

Soul Guidance Development

The Sun Moon Empire is a leading soul-tool power. Its capital uses Soul Guidance Towers, soul-guided lamps, vehicles, defensive arrays, and advanced communications technology in everyday life. 1 6 25

Rift Realm Response

Rift Realms are hostile extradimensional zones that erode ordinary soul masters, corrupt life and matter, and produce dangerous Rift Realm Creations. Only major powers such as the four great empires, Shrek Academy, and the Body Sect can field specialized elimination teams. 1 17

The Sun Moon Empire has invested significant manpower and resources into researching Rift Realms and creating tools for operations within them. 17

• A sealed Rift Realm cannot be escaped through outside intervention; those trapped inside must locate and destroy the Rift Realm Lord’s core. 18
