Background

Lu Yuan was transported to the Douluo Continent six years before his martial-soul awakening. His parents were low-level Soul Masters and teachers at Notting Academy; after his father reached Rank 30, they entered the Great Star Dou Forest and never returned. Lu Yuan survived on their modest savings and grew determined not to remain weak or dependent on others. 1

During his awakening at the Notting City Spirit Hall Branch, a choice system activated. He selected the Sky-Propelling Spear and Yun Ming’s talent and Sky-Propelling Nine Styles, then chose the Ice Dragon King as a second martial soul, the Ice Dragon Wings External Soul Bone, and Tang Wutong as an absolutely loyal Rank 97 protector. He immediately hid the Ice Dragon King and declined Su Yuntao’s invitation to join Spirit Hall, prioritizing independence over institutional backing. 1

Lu Yuan is calculating and highly independent. Even at awakening, he evaluates power by long-term compatibility, political risk, and concealment rather than choosing the most famous option available. He rejects Spirit Hall’s resources, hides his second martial soul, and later refuses Yu Xiaogang’s offer of discipleship because he considers practical achievement more valuable than theory alone. 1 4 5

He is also ruthless when pursuing resources or eliminating future threats. He orders surveillance and a possible assassination of Tang Hao, abducts and imprisons Xiao Wu after identifying her as a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast, and coerces Dugu Bo through both threats against Dugu Yan and the promise of a cure. 10 15 16 19

Despite this pragmatism, Lu Yuan protects people he considers part of his side. He intervenes when Tai Long harasses Ye Lingling and prepares for the Strength Clan’s retaliation rather than leaving the academy vulnerable. 32 33

Notting City and Notting Academy

Lu Yuan awakened innate full soul power and concealed the Ice Dragon King before entering Notting Academy as a day student. He defeated Xiao Chenyu, became the academy students’ leader, and later crushed Tang San and Xiao Wu during the dispute with the work-study students. 1 5 8 9 12 13

Tang Hao confronted him over Tang San’s humiliation, but Lu Yuan feigned fear to draw him into Tang Wutong’s ambush. Tang Hao escaped only after losing an arm, a leg, and the soul bone in his arm. 14

Xiao Wu’s Capture and the Icefire Yin Yang Well

After leaving Notting Academy, Lu Yuan abducted Xiao Wu, raided Tang Hao’s hidden cave for the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone, and brought Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Grass form out of the cave. 15

At the Icefire Yin Yang Well, he subdued Dugu Bo, used the Earth Dragon Golden Melon to cure the Dugu family’s poison problem, refined multiple immortal herbs, and developed the Ice Dragon King’s second Soul Ring. 16 17 18

Grand Mansion Academy and Ice Dragon Pavilion

Lu Yuan acquired Blue Tyrant Academy from Liu Erlong, renamed it Grand Mansion Academy, and established the Ice Dragon Pavilion around it. Tang Wutong became deputy pavilion master and headmistress, while Dugu Bo became senior elder. 22 23

When Yu Yuanzhen attempted to reclaim the academy, Lu Yuan used Tang Wutong and Dugu Bo’s strength to force the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan to abandon the claim and agree to forty million Gold Soul Coins in compensation. 27 28 29

Great Star Dou Forest Return

After reaching Level 30, Lu Yuan and Tang Wutong returned to the Great Star Dou Forest. They saved Ye Lingling’s group from a Man-Faced Spider Emperor, recruited Ye Lingling to Grand Mansion Academy, and hunted an 8,400-year Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear for Lu Yuan’s third Sky-Propelling Spear Soul Ring. 29 30 31 32
