Personality
Tang San is a composed and highly perceptive battlefield leader. He studies opponents’ movements, identifies the decisive threat in a formation, and coordinates his allies’ timing to create openings that stronger individual fighters cannot escape 48 49 50.
He is deeply loyal to Xiao Wu and the Shrek Seven Devils. When Xiao Wu is badly wounded, his usual restraint gives way to open fury; he abandons his own fight to save her, then turns lethal intent on the Shi brothers 51 52. After Xiao Wu leaves for the Star Dou Great Forest, he realizes that his feelings for her are romantic rather than merely familial 62.
His encouragement is tempered by practical concern for his teammates. Although troubled by Cao Benqi’s increasingly overwhelming strength, he supports Shrek’s renewed confidence before the finals. After Dai Mubai is defeated, he urges him to withdraw and conserve his strength rather than continue a futile struggle 78 81.
Against opponents far beyond his abilities, Tang San can maintain outward composure despite inward despair. When Yue Guan attacks him during the tournament ambush, he recognizes that he has no strength to resist and prepares for death before Chen Xin intervenes 68.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San uses Blue Silver Grass as a control, rescue, and positioning tool rather than relying on its appearance as an ordinary plant Martial Soul.
- Uses Entanglement to restrain opponents, including Yu Tianheng during the Emperor Team battle 49 50.
- Pulls allies out of danger, such as retrieving Dai Mubai from the Shi brothers’ encirclement and rescuing Xiao Wu after her injury 49 51.
- Uses the grass to manipulate formations and create openings for allied attacks 50.
- Carries the Blue Silver Emperor’s bloodline through his mother, Ah Yin. Ning Chen later exploits this heritage when impersonating him, but the impersonator’s displayed Blue Silver Emperor does not establish that the real Tang San has awakened that form 93 94.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San possesses Twin Martial Souls; his second Martial Soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, marking him as a dangerous remnant of the Clear Sky Sect in Spirit Hall’s eyes 67.
- Spirit Hall specifically orders his assassination after learning of his Twin Martial Souls and Clear Sky Hammer 67.
- His connection to Tang Hao, the Clear Sky Douluo, is confirmed when Tang Hao identifies Tang San as his son 64.
- Publicly reveals the Clear Sky Hammer during the tournament final and uses his teammates’ combined Soul Power to enlarge it into a weapon nearly as large as a hill 85.
- Manifests Clear Sky Avatar through Ring Fusion, surprising Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin because the technique exceeds what his current cultivation would ordinarily permit 85.
- Swings the enlarged hammer at Ning Chen with sufficient pressure to crack the arena’s stone slabs before the blow lands. Maintaining this state imposes an enormous physical burden on him 86.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
Tang San employs Mysterious Heaven Skill energy for internal healing and recovery.
- Uses its gentle Soul Power to stop Xiao Wu’s bleeding and begin treating her injuries during the arena battle 51.
- Combines its techniques with refined movement and heightened visual perception in combat 49 51.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track and Purple Demonic Eyes
Tang San’s footwork and vision allow him to evade attacks and maintain awareness across a chaotic battlefield.
- Evades Yu Tianheng’s Thunderclap Dragon Claw with elusive footwork that Yu Tianheng compares to Cao Benqi’s Voidstep 49.
- Uses Purple Demonic Eyes to monitor Xiao Wu’s battle against the Shi brothers and recognize the danger of their shield trap 51.
- Uses Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to break away from Ning Chen and reach Xiao Wu after she is injured 51.
Eight Spider Lances
Tang San’s External Soul Bone manifests as eight sharp, icy-blue spider limbs.
- Greatly increases his speed, mobility, and close-range lethality 52.
- Absorbs Dugu Yan’s poison, making her venom ineffective against him 52.
- Nearly pierces the Shi brothers through their Black Tortoise defenses before Ning Chen intervenes 52.
- All eight lances are shattered when Ning Chen uses Thousand Peaks Shaking Mountains to crush him into the arena floor 53.
Concealed Weapons
Tang San carries and deploys concealed weapons with poisons and mechanical firing mechanisms.
- Uses poisoned needles, poisons, and Zhuge Repeating Crossbows against Spirit Hall’s disguised attackers 67.
- His weapons kill or disable more than a hundred attackers during the mountain ambush 67.
- They are insufficient against a Soul Douluo-level opponent, forcing Dugu Bo to intervene 67.
Tactical Command
Tang San is Shrek’s principal field strategist.
- Restores the team’s morale before facing Emperor Team and receives full authority from Yu Xiaogang to arrange the battle plan 48.
- Coordinates Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing into a chained assault that nearly defeats Yu Tianheng 50.
- Prepares realgar wine in advance and uses it with Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun’s attacks to neutralize Dugu Yan’s Jade-Scale Purple Poison 50.
- Recognizes that fighting Cao Benqi individually offers little prospect of victory and leads Shrek into a combined assault with Godwind Academy 83.
- Serves as the focal point of Shrek’s multi-person Ring Fusion formation during the tournament final 85.
Poison Expertise
Tang San’s understanding of poison earns Dugu Bo’s genuine respect despite their initially hostile encounter.
- Helps Dugu Bo resolve part of the toxin buildup caused by the Jade-Scaled Serpent Emperor, with Dugu Bo’s strength also showing signs of improvement 67.
- Proposes a practical, feasible plan to control the toxins in Dugu Yan’s body and prevent her premature death 67.
- Develops this assistance despite the immortal herbs from the Icefire Yin-Yang Well no longer being available to him 65 67.
Ring Fusion
Tang San can act as the recipient of a rare multi-person Ring Fusion technique.
- The Shrek Seven Devils form a linked line behind him, placing their hands on one another’s shoulders to create a complete Soul Power circuit 85.
- Their combined Soul Power flows into Tang San, greatly amplifying his aura and enabling him to manifest Clear Sky Avatar 85.
- Chen Xin attributes the successful manifestation to the team’s deep trust and coordination, while crediting Yu Xiaogang’s arrangements 85.
- The technique temporarily grants power beyond Tang San’s normal capabilities but forces his body to bear the combined energy of all seven fighters 86.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Zhuge Repeating Crossbows — concealed multi-shot weapons used during the Spirit Hall ambush 67.
- Poisoned needles and poisons — deployed alongside his other concealed weapons against Spirit Hall operatives 67.
- Eight Spider Lances — External Soul Bone used for mobility, piercing attacks, and poison absorption 52.
- Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — belt Soul Tool used to store supplies, including the water skins of realgar wine prepared for the Emperor Team battle 50.
- Realgar wine — stored in large water skins and vaporized through his teammates’ attacks to neutralize Jade-Scale Purple Poison 50.
- Xiao Wu’s letter — left behind when she returns to the Star Dou Great Forest, containing a three-year promise that gives Tang San hope during their separation 62.
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — Fellow Shrek Seven Devil and Tang San’s closest companion. He saves her after the Shi brothers severely injure her, and later realizes his feelings for her are romantic 51 62. Her departure leaves him with a letter and a three-year promise 62. Ning Chen later uses Tang San’s appearance to exploit her trust, abducting and killing her. The real Tang San is training elsewhere and experiences sudden heart pain and a lingering sense of loss at the time of her death, without learning its cause 92 93 94 96.
- Tang Hao — Father. Tang Hao secretly protects Tang San, rescues him from Dugu Bo, and forces Dugu Bo to act as his hidden guardian for five years 62 64. After the tournament, he takes Tang San away and directly supervises his cultivation. Although stern, he shows concern when Tang San suddenly feels unwell 87 89 96.
- Ah Yin — Mother and the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor. Tang San inherits her Soul Beast bloodline, a fact Ning Chen uses to make his impersonation convincing to the rulers of the Star Dou Great Forest 93 94.
- Dugu Bo — Initially abducts Tang San in hopes of solving the Jade-Scaled Snake lineage’s poison problem. After Tang Hao coerces him into protecting Tang San, their relationship develops into genuine friendship through Tang San’s knowledge of poison 62 64 67. Tang San partially alleviates Dugu Bo’s toxins and offers a workable plan for Dugu Yan; Dugu Bo consequently acknowledges him as a younger brother and refuses to abandon him even when confronted by Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluos 67 68.
- Dugu Yan — Opponent whose Jade-Scale Purple Poison Tang San neutralizes. She resents her grandfather’s growing attachment to him, although Tang San later proposes a plan to control her inherited toxins 50 65 67.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher who entrusts Tang San with full strategic control of Shrek’s battle against Emperor Team 48. Continues preparing Shrek’s tactics against Cao Benqi for the tournament finals, with the team ultimately using Ring Fusion to empower Tang San 78 85.
- Ning Chen / Cao Benqi — Emperor Team opponent whom Tang San considers a major obstacle. Ning Chen ultimately shatters Tang San’s Eight Spider Lances and defeats him decisively 51 53. During the tournament’s top-three matches, Tang San joins Godwind Academy in a fourteen-person assault but is again defeated by Ning Chen. He later confronts him with a Ring Fusion–empowered Clear Sky Avatar in the final 83 85 86. Ning Chen subsequently impersonates Tang San to gain access to Xiao Wu, while Tang San himself remains with his father 93 94 96.
- Dai Mubai — Shrek’s captain and front-line fighter. Tang San repeatedly supports and repositions him during their coordinated attacks 48 49 50. After Shrek’s match against Star Luo Imperial Academy, Dai Mubai confides his identity as a Star Luo prince to Tang San. Tang San later persuades him to withdraw after his defeat by Cao Benqi 77 81.
- Qian Renxue — Sees Tang San as a genius comparable to Ning Chen and wishes to recruit him for the Heaven Dou Empire, though he has rejected her earlier attempts 67. Her interest in him diminishes after witnessing Cao Benqi’s overwhelming performance against Shrek and Godwind Academy 84.
- Chen Xin and Ning Fengzhi — Intervene during Spirit Hall’s assassination attempt. Chen Xin blocks Yue Guan’s attack on Tang San, while Ning Fengzhi’s support reflects both Tang San’s own value and a desire to express goodwill toward Tang Hao 68 69.
- Bibi Dong / Spirit Hall — Treats Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls and Clear Sky Hammer as grounds for eliminating him, prompting the assassination attempt on the tournament convoy 67.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Emperor Team Battle
Tang San rallies the Shrek Seven Devils before their match against Emperor Team, arguing that their twenty-seven consecutive victories, teamwork, and future potential give them a path to victory despite their lower cultivation 48. During the battle, he repeatedly disrupts Emperor Team’s formation through Blue Silver Grass control, precise positioning, and coordinated assaults on Yu Tianheng 49 50.
After Xiao Wu is critically injured by the Shi brothers’ Tortoiseshell Storm, Tang San abandons his fight with Ning Chen to rescue and treat her 51. His rage drives him to unleash the Eight Spider Lances against the Shi brothers, but Ning Chen intervenes; Tang San is then crushed unconscious by Thousand Peaks Shaking Mountains, and the Eight Spider Lances are destroyed 52 53.
Following the defeat, Yu Xiaogang takes Tang San away in anger before Qin Ming meets with Shrek’s teachers to apologize 54.
Xiao Wu’s Departure and Dugu Bo’s Abduction
After Xiao Wu returns to the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang San reflects on their history and recognizes the depth of his love for her 62. Dugu Bo then captures him with poison mist, intending to learn how Tang San can neutralize Dugu Yan’s poison and possibly cure the Jade-Scaled Snake Martial Soul’s inherited toxin buildup 62.
Tang Hao intercepts Dugu Bo and reveals that Tang San is his son. After defeating Dugu Bo, Tang Hao compels him to protect Tang San in secret for five years while concealing the truth from Tang San himself 63 64.
Xiao Wu’s departure is arranged by Tang Hao, who does not explain the full circumstances to Tang San. Instead, Xiao Wu leaves a letter establishing a three-year promise 62. After the confrontation in Sunset Forest, Dugu Bo takes the still-unconscious Tang San to his lair at the Icefire Yin-Yang Well 64.
Dugu Bo subsequently spends much of his time at Shrek Academy and becomes its advisor. Although the immortal herbs are unavailable, Tang San still helps alleviate part of Dugu Bo’s poison problem and devises a feasible plan for Dugu Yan, turning the coerced guardianship into a genuine friendship 65 67.
Continental Tournament Ambush
During the journey to the Continental Elite Soul Master Tournament, Spirit Hall agents ambush the participating academies with Tang San as their true target 67. He uses concealed weapons to devastate the attackers, but a golden-eagle Soul Douluo overwhelms him. Dugu Bo intervenes, protecting Tang San both out of obligation and their growing friendship 67.
The threat escalates when Yue Guan and Gui Mei join the attack. Dugu Bo openly declares Tang San his acknowledged brother and refuses to withdraw, but Gui Mei engages him while Yue Guan directs a barrage of chrysanthemum blades at Tang San 68. Unable to resist, Tang San prepares for death until Chen Xin intercepts the attack 68.
With Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Dugu Bo opposing them, Spirit Hall’s attackers retreat. Tang San and the tournament convoy subsequently reach Spirit City safely 69.
Tournament Finals and Ring Fusion
Before the finals, Tang San remains wary of Cao Benqi’s strength but supports his teammates’ belief that their coordination can still secure victory. Yu Xiaogang begins planning tactics to restrict their strongest opponent 78.
After Cao Benqi defeats Dai Mubai without using a soul skill, Tang San joins Yu Xiaogang in urging Dai Mubai to conserve his strength 81. When Cao Benqi challenges Shrek and Godwind Academy to attack together, Tang San leads his teammates onto the ring alongside Feng Xiaotian’s team. Their fourteen-person assault fails when Ning Chen shatters their attacks and knocks all of them out of the ring with a single punch 83. The defeated teams receive treatment and proceed to the losers’ bracket 84.
Shrek later faces Heaven Dou Imperial Academy in the tournament final. Rather than immediately launching separate attacks, the Shrek Seven Devils form a linked Ring Fusion circuit and pour their Soul Power into Tang San. He reveals his Clear Sky Hammer and manifests a hill-sized Clear Sky Avatar, astonishing Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin 85. Despite the enormous strain, Tang San swings the hammer at Ning Chen with unwavering determination 86.
Heaven Dou Imperial Academy ultimately wins the championship, while Shrek finishes as runner-up. Tang Hao takes Tang San away after the tournament 87 89.
Training with Tang Hao and Xiao Wu’s Death
After leaving the tournament, Tang San receives direct cultivation instruction from Tang Hao 87 89 96. Elsewhere, Ning Chen disguises himself as Tang San and approaches Xiao Wu in the Star Dou Great Forest. He exploits her affection for Tang San and invokes Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor heritage to overcome Da Ming and Er Ming’s suspicions before abducting her 92 93 94.
When Ning Chen kills Xiao Wu in a secluded valley in Fasino Province, Tang San is thousands of miles away training with his father. He suddenly groans, falters, and feels a sharp pain in his heart, as though something precious has slipped away 96. Tang Hao checks on him and tells him to rest. Tang San dismisses the incident as brief discomfort, but a sense of emptiness remains; he does not learn of Xiao Wu’s death during this scene 96.
