Background

Sasuke was a Konoha Genin whose life centered on killing his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. After his battle with Naruto at the Valley of the End, he rejected a return to Konoha and followed Orochimaru to gain power. Although he defected, Konoha never formally removed him from its registry, leaving him politically classified as a Konoha Genin years later. 5 38

Orochimaru trained Sasuke as a prospective vessel, while Sasuke developed Chidori, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, and eventually Kirin. His training also placed him in direct rivalry with Neji, whose rapid Sage Arts advancement made Sasuke feel that he could not afford to fall behind. 8 12 19

Appearance

Sasuke is depicted with long black hair, dark eyes when his dōjutsu is inactive, and a dark blue high-collared robe during his later training. 94 143

  • His Sharingan turns crimson, while his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is described as purple. 37 70
  • After receiving Hashirama Cells, a Hashirama face manifests on his chest; during Sage Arts use, it bears the visible horns and snake-like traits instead of altering Sasuke's own face. 134
  • He commonly carries the Kusanagi Sword. 37 94

Personality

Early in the story, Sasuke is cold, suspicious, and unwilling to form bonds. He accepts Neji's apparent defection without discussion and pursues Orochimaru's power solely to continue his revenge against Itachi. 5

His pride repeatedly drives him into direct confrontations, including fights against Deidara, the Fourth Raikage, Danzo, and Neji. Defeat does not easily discourage him; instead, humiliation intensifies his determination to train. 37 47 68

Sasuke gradually becomes a more deliberate leader. He forms Snake from Jugo, Suigetsu, and Karin, coordinates Taka against Danzo, and eventually listens to the Hokage's accounts of the Uchiha massacre rather than acting on hatred alone. 37 64 70

After his final battle with Naruto, Sasuke abandons his plan to impose peace through overwhelming power. He chooses reform, seeks the Hokage position, and accepts that political leadership requires allies, public trust, and humility. 135 143

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Dōjutsu

Sasuke's ocular abilities progress from the Three-Tomoe Sharingan to the Mangekyō Sharingan, Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, and eventually a Rinnegan granted through Six Paths power. 8 40 57 127

  • Uses the Sharingan to read fine chakra details, predict attacks, and perceive Deidara's microscopic C4 explosives. 37
  • Resists Itachi's genjutsu and breaks free of Tsukuyomi after enduring its torture. 40
  • Uses Amaterasu and Blaze Release offensively, including against the Fourth Raikage and Danzo. 47 64
  • Employs Susanoo for offense, defense, flight, and protection of allies; its later forms develop armor, wings, and large weapons. 64 124
  • Awakens a Rinnegan and receives three Truth-Seeking Balls after the Sage of Six Paths revives him. 127
  • Loses his Truth-Seeking Balls and Yin-Yang abilities after Kaguya is sealed. 135

Lightning and Fire Release

Sasuke specializes in high-output Lightning Release and Fire Release techniques.

  • Chidori / Chidori Sharp Spear — Used in direct combat and to exploit an opponent's openings. 63 64
  • Chidori Stream — Releases lightning through his surroundings or body; he uses it to neutralize Deidara's C4 explosives. 37
  • Kirin — An S-rank lightning strike powerful enough to destroy a small fortress; it devastates Naka Shrine during his battle with Itachi. 19 40
  • Great Dragon Fire Technique — Used to create the thunderclouds necessary for Kirin. 40

Swordsmanship

Sasuke is a skilled swordsman who fights with the Kusanagi Sword, often channeling Lightning Release through its blade. 37 46

  • Uses the sword alongside Sharingan prediction for precision attacks. 46
  • Continues relying on close-range sword combat even after gaining Mangekyō-level techniques. 68 94
  • His original sword is cut apart by the Fourth Raikage during their battle. 47

Curse Mark, Hashirama Cells, and Wood Release

Sasuke initially draws power from Orochimaru's Earth Curse Mark, but Itachi removes the mark by sealing Orochimaru during their final battle. 5 40

  • Undergoes a dangerous Hashirama Cell transplant with an estimated forty-percent success rate. 122
  • Achieves complete fusion after Neji forces his conflicting Yin and Yang energies into balance. 122
  • Develops Wood Release through subsequent training, progressing from a weak sapling to a healthy waist-high tree. 134
  • His Hashirama Cells also serve as the visible vessel for his Sage Arts transformation. 134

Ryūchi Cave Sage Arts

Neji sends Sasuke to Ryūchi Cave because Sasuke is not strong enough to challenge Naruto fairly after Kaguya's defeat. 132

  • Can maintain Sage Mode for ten minutes during training. 134
  • Must learn to harmonize with natural energy rather than force it into submission. 134
  • Deliberately withholds Sage Arts and Wood Release in his final battle with Naruto. 135

Equipment

  • Kusanagi Sword — Sasuke's primary sword, used with Lightning Release. 37 46
  • Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan — Transplanted into Sasuke to form his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. 57
  • Hashirama Cells — Implanted to increase his potential against Madara and enable Wood Release development. 122

Relationships

  • Naruto Uzumaki — Rival, friend, and eventual equal. Their final battle ends in mutual understanding, and Sasuke abandons his revolution after confronting the consequences of enforced peace. 135
  • Itachi Uchiha — Older brother and the target of Sasuke's revenge. Itachi dies after sealing Orochimaru out of Sasuke and touching his forehead in apology. 40
  • Neji Hyuga — Rival, manipulator, ally, and later mentor. Neji secretly forms Sasuke's team, defeats him to force a conversation, trains his Sage Arts and Wood Release, then later advises his political path. 37 68 134 143
  • Orochimaru — Former mentor and would-be possessor. Sasuke kills Orochimaru when he attempts to take his body, but later accepts his medical and research support. 40 122
  • Karin — Taka's sensor and medical support. She heals Sasuke after Deidara's explosion and survives being used as Danzo's hostage. 37 64
  • Suigetsu — Taka's swordsman and water-style combatant. Sasuke recruits him through Neji's arrangements and relies on him during the pursuit of Danzo. 37 64
  • Jugo — Taka's strongest physical combatant. Sasuke recruits him as a frontline fighter and later uses his unstable mind to trap Fū Yamanaka's consciousness. 37 63
  • Sakura Haruno — Former teammate and medical support. She treats Sasuke after his final battle with Naruto and is proposed by Neji as the future leader of a hospital in Sasuke's civic plan. 135 143
  • Kakashi Hatake — Team leader and later battlefield ally. Sasuke shelters Kakashi within Susanoo during Madara's attack and later joins him on missions after the war. 124 122
