Background

Sasuke was a Konoha Genin whose life centered on killing his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. After his battle with Naruto at the Valley of the End, he rejected a return to Konoha and followed Orochimaru to gain power. Although he defected, Konoha never formally removed him from its registry, leaving him politically classified as a Konoha Genin years later. 5 38

Orochimaru trained Sasuke as a prospective vessel, while Sasuke developed Chidori, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, and eventually Kirin. His training also placed him in direct rivalry with Neji, whose rapid Sage Arts advancement made Sasuke feel that he could not afford to fall behind. 8 12 19
