Personality

Minato is humble, patient, and unusually gracious toward children. After being accidentally injured and hospitalized by Hideki and Obito’s experiment, he thanks them rather than punishing them, immediately easing Obito’s fear. 4

Story Role

Encounter with Hideki and Obito

Minato is caught in the aftermath of Hideki and Obito’s improvised hydrogen explosion, suffering minor burns, shock trauma, and the loss of his long hair. Rather than blame them, he thanks them for getting him medical help. 4

The blast’s chakra traces make him suspect that it was a jutsu rather than an Explosive Tag. Hiruzen encourages him to investigate it, believing the incident may assist Minato’s work on hand-sign-free ninjutsu. 4

Minato later approaches the boys with an offer: he will teach them his newly completed Rasengan if they explain their explosive technique. Hideki accepts, trusting Minato’s sincerity and recognizing the value of the exchange. 6

Graduation Examination

Minato personally serves as the examiner for Ying Shu, Obito, and Kakashi’s early graduation test. Their requirement is to survive against him for five minutes. 30

He initially studies their teamwork while effortlessly defending against their direct assaults. The trio then surprises him with smoke bombs, clones, transformations, Rasengan attacks, a feigned injury, and a three-person Hydrogen Release trap. 31 32

After the children flee Konoha and encounter a Kumogakure spy, Minato returns with Team 7 and reports the incident to Hiruzen. He is ordered to remain present during Root’s investigation of his students. 44
