Background

Duobao was born as a golden Duobao Rat from Innate Treasure Aura, with an innate ability to seek treasures, pursue fortune, and avoid danger. Before he had fully awakened, Lu Chen encountered him and made him his sworn younger brother; Duobao thereafter trusted Lu Chen completely. 1

When the Three Pure Ones discovered the brothers, Tongtian calculated a master-disciple fate with Duobao and accepted him as a disciple. Duobao immediately requested that Tongtian accept Lu Chen as well, prioritizing his elder brother's future even at the moment of receiving his own opportunity. 1 2

At Kunlun Mountain, he cultivated alongside Lu Chen, gathered immortal herbs, and consumed refined Spirit Liquid. This support carried him through a rapid breakthrough to Golden Immortal, which he strengthened by using his Transformation Tribulation to temper his body rather than relying immediately on mana or his treasure. 3 4

Tongtian, Laozi, and Yuanshi later gave Duobao teachings in formations, alchemy, and artifact refinement. He chose artifact refinement as his principal specialty, though his comprehension in the craft developed more slowly than Lu Chen's. 5

As the Jie Sect expands, Duobao becomes dependable and protective. He maps suitable cave dwellings across Kunlun Mountain, shelters disciples displaced by the Chan Sect, and takes responsibility when he believes he has failed to defend his juniors. 30 34 His approachable manner also complements Lu Chen's stricter leadership: Duobao comforts, guides, and reconciles disciples after Lu Chen disciplines them. 47

Duobao is a patient and conscientious teacher. He protects Huaxu during her difficult pregnancy, invests his own resources into Fuxi's foundation, and supports Fuxi's conviction that ordinary people are the basis of the Human Race. 64 66

Despite his ordinarily gentle disposition, Duobao can become coldly pragmatic when Jie Sect's survival is at stake. During the Investiture crisis, he presents Lu Chen's proposal to imprison the four rival Sages and eradicate the other Three Religions, openly accepting the severe consequences that such a measure would bring. 92 He later bluntly rejects Shen Gongbao's appeal to absolute fairness, stating that the Primordial World has never possessed such fairness. 148
