Background

Lu Chen’s soul originated in another world and fused with a fragment of the Devouring Demon God’s origin, allowing him to develop consciousness as a Heaven-Devouring Rat. His accompanying treasure, the reconstructed Heaven-Devouring Treasure Vase, was originally the Devouring Demon God’s companion treasure and had been shattered by Pangu during the opening of heaven and earth. 1

Before encountering the Three Pure Ones, Lu Chen traveled and cultivated with Duobao, a naturally born Duobao Rat. He treated Duobao as his younger brother, shared refined resources with him, and prioritized his safety when Laozi, Yuanshi, and Tongtian approached their mountain. 1

Although all three Pure Ones offered to accept him, Lu Chen chose Tongtian in order to remain with Duobao. Tongtian named Lu Chen the eldest disciple of his lineage despite Duobao having entered the sect first. 2

At Kunlun Mountain, Lu Chen secretly harvested and refined spiritual herbs, accelerated Duobao’s cultivation with Spirit Liquid, and received teachings in cultivation, formations, alchemy, and artifact refinement from the Three Pure Ones. He became capable of refining ordinary immortal-grade pills after studying Laozi’s alchemy teachings. 3 5

After surviving the Heaven-Sundering Divine Thunder, Lu Chen allowed Tongtian, Duobao, Laozi, and Yuanshi to believe that his Great Luo Dao Fruit had been destroyed. In truth, he preserved a twelve-grade Dao Fruit and used the deception to conceal both his survival and the Heaven-Devouring Treasure Vase’s role in it. 13 14

Lu Chen later obtained Hong Yun’s Primordial Chaos Purple Qi, the violet-black treasure gourd, and the Innate Self-Growing Soil. Rather than refine the Purple Qi himself, he fused it with the gourd and the Heaven-Devouring Treasure Vase in chaos, upgrading the vase into a Primordial Supreme Treasure. 8 15 16 17

Appearance

After attaining Great Luo, Lu Chen assumed the form of a handsome, imposing young man. He has black, ink-dark eyes and a steady but sharp bearing. 12

  • Black robes embroidered with flowing gold. 12
  • A black lotus-like Great Luo Dao Fruit within his divine palace. 14
  • Originally appeared as a large black Heaven-Devouring Rat. 1
  • His physical body is strong enough to endure chaotic gales without relying on mana for protection. 32

Personality

Lu Chen is cautious, secretive, and intensely pragmatic. He conceals his foundation, treasure, cultivation, and Dao Fruit whenever revealing them would attract danger or political pressure. His actions are usually shaped by long-term calculations involving karma, merit, future conflicts, and the balance among major factions. 2 14 21

Despite this self-preserving nature, he is deeply loyal to those he accepts as his own. He chose Tongtian to remain beside Duobao, repeatedly protects Jie Sect disciples, aids Houtu in repaying karmic debts, and resolves not to abandon Tongtian or the Jie Sect even after seeing Torch Dragon’s fate. 2 31 34 50

As a leader, Lu Chen favors discipline tempered with protection. He forbids Jie Sect disciples from abusing their sect’s name, but promises to defend them when they are wronged. He later governs alongside Duobao through a “black-face and white-face” approach: Lu Chen punishes misconduct while Duobao guides and reassures the disciples. 30 47

Abilities & Skills

Heaven-Devouring Treasure Vase

Lu Chen’s companion treasure stores materials, conceals heavenly secrets, devours energy, and refines resources into Spirit Liquid.

  • Originally a top-grade innate spiritual treasure with forty-eight restrictions; Lu Chen had refined twelve restrictions when he first began cultivating the Nine-Turn Origin Art. 9
  • Refines spirit herbs, mountain-vein power, chaotic qi, merit, and treasures into Spirit Liquid or Dao-enhancing droplets. 1 12 29
  • Conceals Lu Chen’s aura, foundation, and heavenly secrets from deduction. 2 8 14
  • Reached its forty-ninth restriction and became a Primordial Supreme Treasure after fusing with Primordial Chaos Purple Qi and the violet-black gourd. 16 17
  • May eventually develop toward becoming a Chaos Treasure due to the chaotic aura acquired during its refinement. 17

Heaven-Devouring Divine Ability

As a being formed from the Devouring Demon God’s origin, Lu Chen possesses an innate devouring ability capable of containing and refining external energy.

  • Draws in spiritual energy at a massive scale and combines with the Devouring Art to offset the Nine-Turn Origin Art’s resource requirements. 3 9
  • Purifies demonic qi, including the corruption within Bai Geng and the residual demonic pollution of the western earth veins. 17
  • Allows him to resist the Blood Sea’s Yin Baleful Energy. 43
  • Supports his comprehension of the Devouring Law, which eventually reached completion and enabled his Primordial Unity breakthrough. 42

Nine-Turn Origin Art

Tongtian transmitted this inherited cultivation art to Lu Chen. He cultivated it to the ninth turn, obtaining extraordinarily dense mana.

  • Grants mana hundreds or thousands of times greater than that of cultivators at an equivalent level. 10
  • Demands proportionately greater resources for every future advancement. 10
  • Compresses and tempers spiritual energy rather than merely absorbing it, strengthening Lu Chen’s foundation. 9
  • Enabled him to repeatedly restore his body while enduring the Heaven-Sundering Divine Thunder. 13

Nine-Turn Strength Art and Physical Cultivation

Lu Chen obtained the Witch Clan’s body-refining inheritance from Houtu and integrated Laws directly into his body.

  • Requires a Great Luo-level body and at least ten percent comprehension of a Law before entry. 34
  • Absorbed more than ten percent of Devouring Law, ten percent each of Destruction and Thunder Laws, and five percent of Sword Dao Law into his body. 34
  • His body became comparable to a high-grade innate spirit treasure; he defeated Ran Deng’s Qiankun Ruler with an uninjured bare fist. 35
  • His Human Race Martial Dao cultivation reached the Divine Ability Realm. 32

Great Dao Laws

Lu Chen cultivates multiple Laws rather than relying solely on orthodox corpse severance or merit-based advancement.

  • Devouring Law — His innate Law; reached 25% after his western travels and later rose to 60% through refined Origin Essence and treasures. 21 49
  • Lightning Law — Comprehended through the Heaven-Sundering Divine Thunder; exceeded 10% after the tribulation and reached 15% during his western travels. 14 21
  • Destruction Law — Also gained through the Heaven-Sundering Divine Thunder; exceeded 5% initially and later reached 15%. 14 21
  • Sword Dao Law — Refined five percent into his body through the Nine-Turn Strength Art. 34

Alchemy, Formations, and Sect Instruction

Lu Chen received the Three Pure Ones’ supplementary inheritances and applies them to both cultivation and sect governance.

  • Mastered more than half of Laozi’s alchemy teachings and can refine ordinary immortal-grade pills. 5
  • Received Tongtian’s formations insights and Yuanshi’s artifact-refinement teachings. 5
  • Created the Inquiry-Heart Formation for Jie Sect recruitment, testing prospective disciples’ character and loyalty rather than lineage or fortune. 29
  • Teaches disciples cultivation principles, distributes measured amounts of Spirit Liquid, and adapts advice to each disciple’s individual foundation. 41 47
