Background
Creation and original form
The Primordial World was refined by Pangu as a vast Dao-Proving Grand Artifact. Its original body was formed from Chaos Divine Materials and the remains of innumerable Chaos Demon Gods; the present world is only a damaged fragment of that earlier whole. The ancient Buzhou Region was its core and was said to have been large enough to encompass the present Primordial World. 233
After creating the world with his Dao of Strength, Pangu slew and incorporated Chaos Demon Gods into it. Their flesh, souls, and Grand Dao imprints became part of the world, eventually giving rise to its myriad Dao paths and the Three Thousand Grand Daos. 239
Ancestral Dragon describes the world as a prison created through Pangu’s transformation, built to contain surviving Chaos Demon God remnants. Their blood, bones, flesh, and soul fragments can revive under suitable circumstances and develop into new races. 123
Ancient eras
The earliest known age was the Demon God Era, when Chaos Demon Gods and the Pangu Clan existed in great numbers and Primordial Unity cultivators were widespread. Its disappearance is unexplained. 161
It was followed by the largely erased Savage Beast Era, a historical gap confirmed by Hongjun, Luohou, and the Burning Demon God. The Fierce Beast Clan, Savage Beast Clan, and Divine Beast Clan slaughtered nearly all other life in their struggle for supremacy before vanishing without trace. 162
The world also undergoes recurring struggles among three dominant forces. In an earlier cycle, the Dragon Clan represented Humanity, the Phoenix Clan represented Heaven, and the Qilin Clan represented Earth; their mutual slaughter ended in ruin. Pingxin identifies this repeating pattern as the reincarnation of eras. 27
Structure and Regions
| Region / System | Function and significance |
|---|---|
| Primordial Wilderness | The world’s vast terrestrial body. Its deep layers contain ancient energy and Chaos resources, but even Primordial Unity cultivators struggle to penetrate beneath the Dragon Veins due to crushing pressure. 236 245 |
| Buzhou Region | The surviving core of the original complete world. Its sealed form serves as a buffer between Chaos and the Primordial World, reducing the world’s rejection of Chaos-aligned beings. 233 305 |
| Primordial World Membrane | A boundary crossed when leaving the world for the surrounding Chaos. Beyond it lies weakened, enclosed Chaos Qi that can gradually become Innate Qi. 54 |
| Chaos Fetal Membrane | A deeper boundary near Chaos where Chen Yang rooted the World Tree branch that became Chaos Daoist. 282 |
| Dragon Veins | Absorb buried energy and eventually transform it into spiritual energy and Innate Spiritual Qi; they are central to the world’s recovery and expansion. 236 241 |
| Earthly Fiend Layer | A mysterious deep-world region from which no known powerful entrant has returned. It was used as a drainage outlet during the Chaos-tainted flood. 216 |
| Black Tortoise Continent | A dangerous continent that draws in filth, resentment, death aura, and Baleful Intent from across the world. It is especially suitable for the Wu Tribe’s physical cultivation. 252 |
| Land of Return Ruins | The Primordial World’s “Dark Side,” which contains accumulated resentment, corruption, corpses, hatred, and other impurities that cannot be purified by Dragon Veins or the Earthly Fiend Layer. 290 |
World Mechanisms
Assimilation and suppression
The Primordial World suppresses Chaos-originating beings and forces. Chaos Demon Gods revived within it may have their memories of Chaos, cultivation systems, and knowledge sealed or erased, preventing local cultivators from easily obtaining Chaos methods. 309
Beings born in the Primordial World who become Chaos Lifeforms face the reverse problem upon returning: the world rejects them, makes spiritual qi difficult to absorb, and can cause their connections, inheritances, and traces within the world to gradually disappear. Great God Yang Mei’s eventual departure is cited as the clearest example. 305
Self-defense and digestion
The Four Extremities of earth, fire, wind, and water can act as part of the world’s defensive power. With Chen Yang’s assistance, they bound the Water Demon God to the Celestial Pillar, tore him apart, and buried his remains for gradual digestion by the Primordial World. 240
The destruction of powerful invaders can strengthen the world rather than merely damage it. The Water Demon God’s death released Chaos Aura, Fortune, Merit, and resources, while his remains became long-term nourishment for the world’s recovery. 240 241
Resource cycle
Chaos Aura released into the world is eventually absorbed by Dragon Veins and converted into Innate Spiritual Qi. This process expands the land, improves spiritual environments, produces spirit roots and divine materials, and raises the world’s capacity to support high-level cultivation and battle. 241 244 286
The Reversing Chaos Grand Formation further stabilizes this cycle. Chaos Daoist absorbs Chaos Qi through the World Tree, channels it into the stars, and causes starlight to transform into spiritual qi within the Primordial Wilderness. 282
Major Upheavals
| Event | Consequences |
|---|---|
| Chaos-tainted northern flood | Meltwater from glaciers associated with the Ice Demon God eroded formations, bodies, Primordial Spirits, and Dao rhythms. Chen Yang’s forces redirected it through new river channels and the Earthly Fiend Entrance. 216 |
| Water Demon God’s flood | The resurrected Water Demon God attempted to devour the world by transforming land, life, Dragon Veins, and blessed grounds into water infused with Chaos properties. 230 |
| Restoration through conflict | The Water Demon God’s battle with Jiuyang Daoist disturbed ancient energy reserves beneath the Primordial Wilderness. The released energy restored the world, expanded its territory, and created major cultivation opportunities. 236 237 |
| Return Ruins exposure | The emergence of the Land of Return Ruins released Skeleton Race creatures, death qi, resentment, corpses, and corruptive forces into the Primordial World. 290 |
| War against the Return Ruins | The Mystic Sect, Demon Sect, Devil Race, Human Clan, rogue cultivators, and other forces joined a world-spanning conflict against Return Ruins creatures while Primordial Unity experts waited for the hidden “emperor” behind them. 292 |
Influence and Governance
No faction has achieved complete control over the Primordial World. Although Hongjun and the Mystic Sect appear dominant, numerous hidden Primordial Unity experts, ancient inheritances, secret realms, and independent powers make universal rule impossible. Penglai Purple Manor, the Demon Court, and the Wu Tribe are likewise described as having ruled only in name. 241
The world’s recovery repeatedly alters its political balance. Expanding land, renewed spiritual qi, emerging treasures, and newly revealed secret realms grant weaker factions opportunities to rise while also provoking competition and conflict. 241 244 288
