Background and History

Duobao was already the Jie Sect’s senior disciple when Chen Yang manifested from the spirit of an innate grand formation. He protected Chen Yang before his manifestation and thereafter supplied him with cultivation methods, resources, and treasures, becoming the foundation of Chen Yang’s early cultivation. He accepted Chen Yang’s unprecedented Body-Forged Formation path while warning that the Formation Dao had no established predecessors in the Primordial World. 1

To support Chen Yang’s development, Duobao obtained and entrusted him with the Immortal-Slaying Formation Diagram. He also tasked Chen Yang with assisting Golden Ao Island’s protective formations and prepared him for the Three Sects Tournament, where he hoped Chen Yang could restore Jie Sect prestige. 1 3

At the tournament, Duobao served as the Jie Sect’s organizer and guide. He did not participate because his Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal cultivation would undermine the competition’s fairness, instead placing the sect’s hopes on Chen Yang. When Chen Yang and the Three Xiao encountered the Six-Eared Macaque’s lingering obsession at Penglai, Duobao intervened after they were overwhelmed. He restored Chen Yang’s depleted strength, suppressed the obsession with the Void Hand Seal, and explained the Six-Eared Macaque’s history, death, and connection to the Eastern Sovereign. 17

Duobao took responsibility for the recovered wisp of Eastern Sovereign origin and reported it to Tongtian. He later returned with news that it contained incomplete clues to Eastern Sovereign’s Treasure, awarded Chen Yang the Wind Spirit Stone containing purified Six-Eared Macaque essence blood, and relayed the sect’s rewards for Chen Yang and the Three Xiao. 18 19
