Background

Da Wa was the first and largest gourd on Xiao Teng’s vine to mature. When Xiao Teng was about to take form, his accumulated spiritual energy abruptly flowed into Da Wa instead. Da Wa emerged as a child from the split gourd, unknowingly delaying Xiao Teng’s transformation. Xiao Teng nevertheless accepted him as his son, and Da Wa began calling him “Father.” 2

Eager to see the world beyond the Primordial Array, Da Wa persuaded Xiao Teng to let him explore Mount Buzhou. He demonstrated his innate might by shaking its cliffside with a punch, then broke through the array himself. Xiao Teng subsequently discovered that he could see through Da Wa’s eyes and communicate with him over distance. 2

Personality

Da Wa is energetic, straightforward, and intensely proud of his strength. After crushing his first scorpion beneath a boulder, he immediately sought Xiao Teng’s praise, but he also accepted his father’s warnings about complacency. 3

As the eldest brother, he becomes more responsible and protective with experience. He organizes the siblings in battle, assigns them roles based on their abilities, and reprimands Third Baby for insulting Phoenix Perch Mountain’s hosts. 7 8 His confidence can border on fearlessness—he openly dismisses Kunpeng’s threats—but he is capable of caution when the group faces dangers beyond its current ability. 11 13

Da Wa became the first Calabash Kid to take form and the first to leave the vine’s protection. He defeated a giant scorpion with a boulder, discovered the Geng Metal Mountain-Splitting Axe, and began gathering treasures throughout Mount Buzhou. 2 3

Earth Spirit Pearl and Brotherhood

After defeating a snake demon, Da Wa recovered the Earth Spirit Pearl and returned it to Xiao Teng. When Er Wa took form, Da Wa was ordered to meet and protect him; their partnership established the pattern of Er Wa finding opportunities and Da Wa overcoming the threats around them. 4

Expansion Beyond Mount Buzhou
