Background

The seven Calabash Kids began as conscious gourds growing on Xiao Teng’s Innate Gourd Vine atop Mount Buzhou. They initially called the vine “Mother,” but accepted Xiao Teng’s correction and began calling him “Father.” Following his warning that calamity would threaten them all, the seven began cultivating while still on the vine 1.

The brothers took form gradually. Er Wa emerged from the second calabash with extraordinary eyes and ears, while Third Baby was born with an Indestructible Vajra Body. Si Wa and Wu Wa later transformed together, bringing the five born brothers into the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal realm 4 5 6. Liu Wa eventually took form at Mount Kongtong after remaining overlooked and quiet for a prolonged period 6 9.

Seventh Gourd could not naturally transform because his original body contained dense Primal Chaos Qi. Xiao Teng eventually comprehended the Creation Great Dao, created a body from Xirang Divine Soil and Three Lights Divine Water, and transferred Seventh Gourd’s true spirit into it. The original seventh gourd became the Primordial Chaos Treasure Gourd 13 14.

After their full reunion, the Calabash Kids traveled widely through the Primordial World, gathering treasures, battling ferocious beasts and powerful clans, and repeatedly establishing or defending Xiao Teng’s territories. They helped claim Mount Kongtong, later discovered and refined the Three Immortal Isles, and became a major force capable of deterring other Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals 17 37 39.

The Calabash Kids generally appear as young boys with round faces and similar features, though each reflects his individual nature and Dao.

The Calabash Kids are intensely loyal to Xiao Teng and one another. They readily follow their father’s commands in battle, defend endangered siblings without hesitation, and treat their shared strength as greater than any individual achievement 7 8 20.

Their unity is balanced by habitual impulsiveness. They are enthusiastic treasure hunters, frequently provoke stronger factions, and have caused conflicts with the Qilin Clan, Phoenix Clan, Wood Duke, Ming He, Zhunti and Jie Yin, and the Demon Race 18 21 26 28. Xiao Teng repeatedly tries to restrain them, usually with limited success.
