"Steal!"
As Guter loudly cast his spell, Serie, seated in her chair, immediately sensed that something was wrong.
"Th-this feeling!"
"How is this possible?!"
It was a fluctuation of magic power unlike anything even I had ever seen! What kind of magic was that?
No! This wasn't magic—it was a Curse!
Just as Guter's magical skill was about to touch Serie's body, Serie erupted with immense magic power at the very last moment. By a hair's breadth, she cast Cursed Reversal Magic to deal with the Curse, deflecting the "Curse" Guter had cast on her back at him.
"Not good!"
Watching the magical fluctuation reflect back toward him, Guter cried out inwardly. He had never expected his Theft Magic (True Locking Technique) to be regarded as a Curse by Serie and reflected back at him.
However, no matter how hard Guter tried to dodge, he could not evade this kind of targeted spell.
And unlike his teacher Serie, Guter did not possess Cursed Reversal Magic or any of the other methods for dealing with Curses.
So he could only watch helplessly as the magic Serie had reflected back fell upon him.
The next moment.
Serie raised an eyebrow, feeling that something ought to appear in her hand.
Yet that was not what happened.
Other than a faint, indescribable scent, nothing appeared in her hand.
Serie looked doubtfully at her disciple Guter and asked, "What kind of magic is this? Where did you learn it?"
"Uh."
After thinking for a few moments, Guter explained it to his teacher in terms ordinary people could understand.
"This can be called Theft Magic. Its effect is to randomly steal an item from the target."
"As for how I learned it... the principle behind this magic is somewhat similar to Goddess Magic. Both require borrowing the power of the 'Outer Gods'; they do not rely solely on the mage's own power."
"I see."
After hearing Guter's explanation, Serie nodded. Though she understood that Guter was concealing many details, Lie Detection Magic had not indicated that he was lying. Moreover, she had confirmed once again that Guter was not a Demon.
That was enough.
But—
"By your explanation, after I reflected the magic back at you, I should have obtained one of your possessions as well."
"Why didn't I?"
Serie looked at her empty palm and continued questioning Guter.
"Because eagles should not be bound!"
"???"
Serie frowned, feeling that this matter was not so simple.
But some vague instinct told her it was best not to dig any deeper.
After Guter's demonstration, it was Junior Disciple Lairn's turn.
Compared to Guter's bizarre little gimmicks, Lairn's magic was undoubtedly far more normal.
The moment the casting fluctuation arose, Serie already knew what type of magic it was: Stone Golem Manipulation Magic.
Although there were no stone statues in the hall, Lairn still relied on his exquisite skill to forcibly raise a small stone statue from the hall's stone floor.
"Not bad."
Serie nodded. After learning the signature magic of her two disciples, she gave them an address and instructed them, "Come find me at this place two hours before the examination begins tomorrow. I will give you a gift for becoming my disciples."
"For now, you may return."
"Aren't we going to introduce ourselves to each other?" Guter asked Serie.
"There is no need. You will naturally become familiar with one another as you spend time together."
"However, if you want to get to know each other better, perhaps you could go have a drink at a tavern in the city?"
"After all, I have never interfered with my disciples' daily lives."
With that, Serie's figure vanished into the shadows.
After watching his teacher leave, Guter nudged Lairn beside him twice with his elbow and asked whether he wanted to accompany him to the tavern for "a couple of drinks."
"Ah? I..."
Faced with Senior Disciple Guter's invitation, Lairn was first surprised, then wanted to refuse. But he also thought that this would be the senior disciple he would spend his days with in the future, and refusing might not be very appropriate.
He looked exactly like an introvert with severe social anxiety.
Seeing this, Guter patted Lairn on the shoulder and said, "Come on. I hardly ever go to taverns either. I've been in Oysaster for dozens of days already, yet I still haven't properly looked around the city."
"Th-then... all right."
Unable to refuse his senior disciple's enthusiastic invitation, Lairn could only agree through gritted teeth.
But in truth, Lairn also felt a faint sense of anticipation. It had nothing to do with being an "introvert" or an "extrovert"; it was simply humanity's need for social interaction. When you first arrive in an unfamiliar city, you always long to make a few friends.
Thus, Lairn followed Guter and stopped before a lively tavern in the city.
Guter's reason for choosing this place was quite simple. Outside the tavern stood an especially voluptuous older-sister bartender, dressed in skimpy clothes as she solicited passersby.
Come to think of it, this world merely lacked advanced technology. People's ideas were not conservative in the slightest.
After all, the churches here focused more on helping others than restricting and judging them. Their Holy Scripture merely advised believers to mind their own words and actions, rather than impose such rules upon everyone in society.
Thus, on this street filled with entertainment, there were older-sister bartenders dressed very scantily, as well as male models boldly displaying their abs, each attracting different kinds of customers.
Lairn clearly had not experienced such a passionate atmosphere very often. His gaze began to dart about involuntarily.
As for Guter, this was his first time coming to such a place since transmigrating.
But unlike Lairn, Guter had spent countless days and nights sleeping alone in an abandoned Monastery out of fear that a Demon prophet might notice him. He loved this kind of lively place far too much.
It felt as though some of the emptiness in his heart had been filled.
Led by a bartender, Guter and Lairn were seated in a good spot. Looking up, they could see the bar where drinks were mixed. Standing behind it was a little girl with cat ears, skillfully preparing one flashy cocktail after another according to the customers' requests.
"What would the two of you like to drink?"
Having finished her work, the bartender looked toward Guter and Lairn, who were seated nearby, and asked.
"Could you make me a drink that feels a little livelier?"
"No problem, sir," the bartender replied to Guter. Then she looked at Lairn. "And for you, sir?"
"A beer will do."
"Mhm."
The bartender recorded their orders. Before long, a bartender dressed as a bunny girl brought over their drinks, along with two exquisite small plates of snacks on the house.
Before leaving, the bunny girl even blew a kiss at Lairn, who was obviously a virgin. Lairn turned red before he had even taken a sip.
Guter watched the scene with great interest. How should he put it?
Did every bunny girl enjoy teasing "Xiao Chunnan"?
