Demons possess lifespans far beyond those of ordinary humans, along with exceptional innate aptitude for magic. Their physical bodies are also generally stronger than human bodies. 157 167

Single-Magic Cultivation

Rather than learning a broad range of spells, most demons devote their lives to refining one signature magic. 11 125

Society and Conduct

Demons are generally portrayed as solitary and unwilling to cooperate for a collective cause. Serie states that demons do not habitually assist one another, treating failures within another demon’s territory as that individual’s responsibility. 58

• Refferdie is an unusual exception: it is described as a rare Demon General who genuinely values the welfare of its race and intervenes when demons are in danger. 183
• Demons can operate within human society when they choose. Mahat serves as Lord Gluck’s retainer and follows human etiquette, while Solitiel concealed herself by imitating the appearance and behavior of a human girl. 156 167
• Individual demons may pursue goals beyond open conflict. Mahat expresses a wish for coexistence with humans, while Solitiel’s primary goal is survival through secrecy and isolation. 156 168

History

Shulhahat and the Hero of the South

Before the Demon King’s defeat, Shulhahat used Precognition Magic to confirm that he and the Hero of the South were both destined to die in a battle necessary for their races’ futures. He ordered Grausam to avoid targeting Serie and instead kill Guter, whom he identified as a dangerous variable. 11

Shulhahat was killed by the Hero of the South. The battle reduced the Demon King’s Seven Sages to four, though the Hero of the South was also overwhelmed by the remaining demons. 11

Continuing Raids after the Demon King’s Defeat

The Demon King’s death weakened demon morale, but demon attacks against human settlements continued. Demons harassed merchants, attacked villages, and restricted movement between human cities; Aura’s forces were particularly dangerous because she could turn defeated victims into soldiers. 48 50

Aura personally led the destruction of the Dallamonus Merchant Guild’s headquarters, killing Gumi’s parents and leaving her as the sole survivor. 50

Ambush in the Spring Secret Realm

Grausam assembled Guwal and ten elite Demon Generals to ambush Serie, Guter, Himmel, Frieren, and Milo. He used Paradise Transfer Magic to trap the group in individualized illusions while the other demons launched their attack. 65 72

The ambush failed after Guter and Himmel broke free, Serie reflected Grausam’s magic with Cursed Reversal Magic, Himmel killed Grausam, and Frieren killed Guwal. The remaining Demon Generals were subsequently defeated by Serie. 72 73

Later Conflicts

Guter and Gumi later entered Aura’s territory to eliminate her. Aura first deployed undead guards and attempted to wear down the pair before using her Obedience Scale Magic. 183

Mahat, despite having received an order from the Demon King to kill Guter, declined to act against him while serving as Lord Gluck’s retainer. 156

Guter later fought Solitiel, a nameless Great Demon. After being overwhelmed by her immense mana reserves, Clone Magic, and Cursed Reversal Magic, he severed her Gathering: Magic Ocean trait, depriving her of the magic power needed to fight. 167 168 Solitiel’s soul was then sealed in a gemstone with Holy Magic Power, and she became a reluctant source of magic power and instruction for Guter. 169 170
