Nature and Physiology

Soul Beasts encompass a wide range of lifeforms, including animals, plants, and creatures with specialized soul-power organs. Fire-type Soul Beasts, for example, can produce flame through biological structures such as oral glands or patterned pores. 8

Their bodies and remains are valuable to Soul Masters. A slain Soul Beast can produce a Soul Ring, while tissues, Soul Bones, Soul Cores, Soul Crystals, and specialized organs may be harvested for cultivation, equipment, or research. 14 16 343

Relationship with Soul Masters

The conventional Soul Master system depends on hunting Soul Beasts for Soul Rings. Bai Xiao later learns that this system was designed as a racial weapon against Soul Beasts: Soul Masters require Soul Rings to advance, while their combat methods are specialized for fighting Soul Beasts. 104 136

The conflict is therefore structurally unequal. Soul Masters gain strength by seizing Soul Beast power, while the disappearance of Soul Beasts would eventually prevent new Soul Masters from advancing. 105 136

Bai Xiao's Soul Beast Faction

Bai Xiao creates an extensive faction in Sunset Forest by healing, modifying, and recruiting Soul Beasts. His procedures fuse compatible tissues into their bodies, improve their strength and intelligence, and establish communication through neural modifications. 13 16

His underlings call him the Soul Beast Doctor, while outsiders regard him as a Great Demon King. At his early peak of expansion, he controlled roughly a quarter of Sunset Forest’s outskirts; with Dugu Bo’s assistance, he later subdued nearly eight-ninths of the forest. 16 31

Enhancement and Intelligence

Bai Xiao’s Cell Martial Soul can assimilate Soul Beast tissue, record genes, and recreate specialized organs. This allows him to repair injuries, combine traits from different species, and increase a Soul Beast’s physical ability and intelligence without apparent tissue rejection. 8 13

• Modified Soul Beasts can receive implanted tissue that absorbs Soul Power from specially altered Blue Silver Grass, accelerating their cultivation. 16

• Hou — Formerly a Black Panther. Bai Xiao healed and modified him, enhanced his intelligence, and implanted neural tissue that enabled basic communication; Hou became Bai Xiao’s first true Soul Beast partner and later reached the Thousand-Year level. 13 16
• Mysterious Bird — A badly injured subordinate selected as Qian Renxue’s intended Soul Ring. Bai Xiao preserved its life, then transformed it into Qian Renxue’s symbiotic Demon Spirit. 47 51

Demon Cultivation

Bai Xiao develops Demon Cultivation, a system in which a Soul Beast becomes a Demon Spirit residing within a Soul Master. Unlike a conventional Soul Ring, this arrangement is intended to be symbiotic rather than absolutely controlled by the human host. 51

Symbiotic Benefits

• The Soul Master can request the Demon Spirit’s assistance and draw on its Soul Power, but requires the spirit’s consent. 51
• The Demon Spirit cultivates through the host’s Soul Power, greatly accelerating its growth. 51
• As the Demon Spirit grows, the host’s associated Soul Ring becomes stronger. 51
• A Demon Spirit does not automatically die with its host and may seek another host after becoming independent. 51

Limitations

• A host with insufficient cultivation cannot fully support a powerful Demon Spirit; its usable Soul Ring strength is suppressed until the host grows stronger. 51
