• The nation is described as valuing martial strength, with raw military power comparable to Lightning Country’s; its geography had previously constrained that power 211.

History

The six-village competition

Ishikawa attended the Six Kage Summit seeking Tailed Beasts to strengthen Iwagakure. After negotiations gave way to a competition, the village placed fourth. It subsequently received the Four-Tails and Five-Tails and signed the proposed peace agreement 69 74 107 108.

Negotiations with the Land of Flame

Madara and Kakuzu visited Iwagakure to negotiate access through the Land of Grass in return for access to the Lonely Mountain Wasteland. Ishikawa resisted a permanent territorial exchange, and Kakuzu negotiated a costly, one-year lease of transit rights instead 169 171. During the later war, Ishikawa agreed to transfer the wasteland to the Land of Flame in exchange for troops to defend Earth’s rear line 218.

First Shinobi World War

The Land of Earth and the Land of Wind declared war on the Land of Fire. With access through the Land of Grass and the Land of Flame occupying the Land of Fire’s main force, Iwagakure advanced rapidly against its second army. Uzumaki sealing techniques and the arrival of Kumogakure survivors later slowed that offensive 192 211 216.

Konoha captured members of Iwagakure’s Demolition Corps and used their reanimated bodies to attack the Land of Wind’s camp. Ishikawa condemned the use of his dead comrades and sought Land of Flame support for his rear defenses so Earth could send fighters to the threatened third battlefield 194 212 213 216.

• Land of Flame — A bordering power and temporary wartime partner. Earth negotiated transit rights with it, then exchanged the Lonely Mountain Wasteland for military aid 107 171 218.
