History

Warring States Era

The Uchiha Clan was one of the dominant shinobi clans of the Land of Fire and had fought the Senju Clan for centuries. Under clan head Uchiha Madara, the clan relied on its Sharingan and strong one-on-one combat ability, but its preference for direct battle left it disadvantaged against the Senju alliance with the Uzumaki and Sarutobi clans. 1 7 19

Enkō, Madara and Izuna’s youngest surviving brother, became an increasingly influential strategist within the clan. His plan to destroy the Senju supply depot at Heno River succeeded, cutting the Senju supply line and forcing the conflict toward a decisive battle. 1 3 6

Expansion of the Uchiha Coalition

Before the final battle, Enkō pushed the clan to abandon its traditional isolation and acquire vassal clans. The Uchiha freed the Blood Pool Clan from Hell Valley; Miyakenichi formally placed the clan under Enkō’s care after its release. 7 12

Enkō also subdued the battle-obsessed Taketori Clan, whose Shikotsumyaku users agreed to serve as weapons for the Uchiha after witnessing the clan’s power. 16 18 The Uchiha later maintained a preliminary, noncommittal cooperation agreement with the Funato Clan of the Water Country. 18

Final Battle and Exile

The Uchiha fought the Senju-led coalition at the East River Plains. Madara and Hashirama’s duel, Izuna’s battle against Tobirama, and Enkō’s rear-area raid failed to reverse the Uchiha’s overall defeat. 20 21 24

After Izuna was severely wounded and the Uchiha forces were exhausted, Madara conceded the battle. He rejected Hashirama’s offer to build a shared village and announced that the Uchiha would leave the Land of Fire. The clan unanimously followed him, joined by the Blood Pool Clan. 24 25

Founding of the Land of Flame

The Uchiha entered the Land of Waterfalls and destroyed the Shemu Clan’s main forces. The Riverflow Clan surrendered and became an outer force of the Uchiha. 28 29

Enkō then infiltrated the daimyo’s palace, placed the daimyo under genjutsu, and installed Uchiha Mu as the new daimyo. The Land of Waterfalls was renamed the Land of Flame, while the new village became Hidden Flame Village. 29 30

Madara became the village’s first Flame Shadow, and its emblem was modeled after the three-tomoe Sharingan. 30

Village Consolidation

The Uchiha consolidated their rule by recruiting further clans, including the Uzuki Clan, and by developing the village according to Enkō’s institutional plans. The clan established a Ninja Academy, a Council Hall, an Anbu force, a medical system, an armory, intelligence operations, border defense, and direct control over the daimyo’s palace. 46 48 60 61

Izuna secured the Nine-Tails through Mangekyō Sharingan genjutsu and sealed it for use as Hidden Flame Village’s guardian beast. This gave the Uchiha state a major strategic deterrent against the other hidden villages. 37

The clan also participated in Hashirama’s Six Kage Summit, though the meeting exposed unresolved hostility between the Land of Flame and Kumogakure over the deaths of the Yotsuki Clan members in Hell Valley. Madara’s open defiance of the First Raikage reinforced the village’s reputation as an uncompromising military power. 69 72 73

Bloodline Research and Militarization

Following the summit, the Uchiha ambushed Kirigakure’s returning delegation, severely injured Mizukage Byakuren, and captured Shuiwu for his Blood Release Kekkei Genkai. Using Shuiwu’s Bloodline Assimilation and preserved Mangekyō Sharingan from Uchiha Shan, Enkō successfully created an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. 118 119

As the postwar peace allowed long-suppressed grief to return, a growing number of Uchiha awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan. This increase in elite ocular users strengthened the clan’s war faction and intensified its ambition to expand the Land of Flame’s influence across the Shinobi World. 127 163

Expansion Wars

The Uchiha supported the Funato Clan’s campaign against the Uzumaki Clan in Whirlpool Country. Although Hashirama intervened to prevent the Uzumaki’s annihilation, Enkō forced Uzumaki Ashina to surrender the clan’s storehouses, wealth, supplies, and sealing-arts inheritance before the survivors relocated to Konoha. 159 164 166

The Land of Flame later invaded Lightning Country, capturing multiple cities, destroying Kumogakure’s forces, killing the Raikage’s son, taking the Two-Tails, and defeating a 250,000-man Lightning Country army. Enkō and Izuna then continued advancing toward the Lightning Country capital. 191

After Uchiha forces attacked the Land of Fire’s border defenses, Konoha formally entered war readiness against the Land of Flame. The conflict expanded into a wider war involving multiple major villages. 191 194

During the campaign against Konoha, the Uchiha Armory mass-produced twenty Uchiha Cannons. Madara’s chakra-enhanced cannon fire destroyed Hashirama’s Fivefold Rashomon and forced Konoha’s main force into a retreat that led toward a prepared Uchiha ambush. 198

The clan also used military aid as a political tool. Madara agreed to help the Land of Earth defend its rear line only after Tsuchikage Ishikawa ceded the Lonely Mountain Wasteland to the Land of Flame. 218

Appearance

Uchiha shinobi are associated with black hair, while members who awaken the Sharingan possess scarlet eyes marked by tomoe. 1 45

Culture

The Uchiha are proud, warlike, and historically confident that an awakened Sharingan gives them an overwhelming advantage in individual combat. This confidence originally made the clan dismissive of alliances and inclined toward direct confrontation. 1 7

Family loyalty is central to the clan’s identity. Madara and Izuna repeatedly prioritize Enkō’s safety, while Enkō’s plans are driven by a desire to prevent the clan’s future destruction and preserve its independence. 1 5 25

Following their defeat by the Senju, the clan’s leadership became more pragmatic. Enkō’s recruitment of vassal clans, seizure of political authority, and village-building plans transformed the Uchiha from an isolated war clan into the center of an expanding state. 7 25 29 30

The end of constant clan warfare allowed many Uchiha to process previously suppressed grief and rage, leading to a wave of Mangekyō Sharingan awakenings. The same emotional resurgence intensified the clan’s confidence and appetite for renewed conflict. 163

Within the later Flame Empire, the Uchiha developed competing political tendencies. The war faction sought to spread the empire’s rule across the Shinobi World, while conservative members opposed unchecked expansion. 127

Although the clan has embraced formal institutions and diplomacy when useful, it continues to value strength, military achievement, and the preservation of Uchiha authority above accommodation with rival powers. 60 61 170 191

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan’s defining bloodline ability. Awakening it greatly improves a shinobi’s combat strength and allows users to perceive opponents’ movements and chakra-based attacks. 1 22

• Enables powerful genjutsu, including interrogation, memory manipulation, and battlefield deception. 10 37
• Allows users to read and counter complex physical techniques, though extreme speed and blind-spot attacks can challenge its perception. 47
• Can reflect hostile genjutsu under favorable circumstances. Enkō used Sharingan genjutsu reflection against Miyakenichi’s Blood Dragon Eye technique. 9
• Provides exceptional dynamic vision and permits users to imitate an opponent’s movements, making direct close-quarters combat against an Uchiha especially dangerous. 195 218

Mangekyō Sharingan

Several prominent Uchiha possess the Mangekyō Sharingan, granting techniques far beyond ordinary Sharingan abilities at the cost of severe ocular strain. 1 5 41

• Kagami no Mitama — Enkō’s left-eye technique can temporarily plunder an opponent’s ninjutsu, secret technique, genjutsu, or dōjutsu; the target loses access to the stolen ability while Enkō may use it without chakra cost. Its duration and cooldown are both five minutes. 2 3
• Susanoo — Madara and Enkō can manifest chakra constructs for offense and defense. Madara used a partial Susanoo against Hashirama, while Enkō’s black-flamed skeletal Susanoo protected him against Sarutobi Sasuke. 20 22
• Tailed-beast control — Izuna used Mangekyō genjutsu to subdue and seal the Nine-Tails as Hidden Flame Village’s guardian beast. 37

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is an evolved form achieved by fusing compatible Mangekyō Sharingan rather than merely replacing one pair of eyes with another. Its expanded ocular-power capacity removes the ordinary Mangekyō’s progressive blindness and permits sustained use of high-consumption techniques such as Susanoo. 76 119

• Enkō became the first confirmed Uchiha to achieve this evolution by using Shuiwu’s Blood Release: Bloodline Assimilation to eliminate rejection between his own bloodline and Uchiha Shan’s preserved eyes. 118 119

Military Technology

The Uchiha developed chakra-based artillery through the Flame Hidden Village Armory. The Uchiha Cannon can fire massive chakra beams, and its destructive power rises sharply when empowered by a Mangekyō user’s Susanoo chakra. 198

• Twenty cannons were mass-produced at the cost of most of the Land of Flame’s available resources. 198
• Madara’s Susanoo-enhanced cannon fire destroyed Hashirama’s Fivefold Rashomon, demonstrating that the weapon can threaten even the strongest large-scale defensive ninjutsu. 198

Council Hall

The Flame Hidden Village Council Hall has nine seats: one for the Flame Shadow, two for the Uchiha Clan, one each for the Chinoike, Taketori, Artisan, Medicine, and Uzuki Clans, and one reserved for a major village contributor. Decisions are decided by majority vote; the Flame Shadow has veto authority, though the unanimous vote of the other eight members can override it. 61

The structure preserves Uchiha dominance while giving allied clans institutional representation. The Uchiha’s two dedicated seats, combined with the Flame Shadow’s position, ensure that the founding clan retains decisive influence over village policy. 61
