History

Warring States Era

The Uchiha Clan was one of the dominant shinobi clans of the Land of Fire and had fought the Senju Clan for centuries. Under clan head Uchiha Madara, the clan relied on its Sharingan and strong one-on-one combat ability, but its preference for direct battle left it disadvantaged against the Senju alliance with the Uzumaki and Sarutobi clans. 1 7 19

Yan Hong, Madara and Izuna’s youngest surviving brother, became an increasingly influential strategist within the clan. His plan to destroy the Senju supply depot at Heno River succeeded, cutting the Senju supply line and forcing the conflict toward a decisive battle. 1 3 6

Expansion of the Uchiha Coalition

Before the final battle, Yan Hong pushed the clan to abandon its traditional isolation and acquire vassal clans. The Uchiha freed the Blood Pool Clan from Hell Valley; Miyakenichi formally placed the clan under Yan Hong’s care after its release. 7 12

Yan Hong also subdued the battle-obsessed Taketori Clan, whose Shikotsumyaku users agreed to serve as weapons for the Uchiha after witnessing the clan’s power. 16 18 The Uchiha later maintained a preliminary, noncommittal cooperation agreement with the Funato Clan of the Water Country. 18

Final Battle and Exile

The Uchiha fought the Senju-led coalition at the East River Plains. Madara and Hashirama’s duel, Izuna’s battle against Tobirama, and Yan Hong’s rear-area raid failed to reverse the Uchiha’s overall defeat. 20 21 24

After Izuna was severely wounded and the Uchiha forces were exhausted, Madara conceded the battle. He rejected Hashirama’s offer to build a shared village and announced that the Uchiha would leave the Land of Fire. The clan unanimously followed him, joined by the Blood Pool Clan. 24 25

Founding of the Land of Flame

The Uchiha entered the Land of Waterfalls and destroyed the Shemu Clan’s main forces. The Riverflow Clan surrendered and became an outer force of the Uchiha. 28 29

Yan Hong then infiltrated the daimyo’s palace, placed the daimyo under genjutsu, and installed Uchiha Mu as the new daimyo. The Land of Waterfalls was renamed the Land of Flame, while the new village became Hidden Flame Village. 29 30

Madara became the village’s first Flame Shadow, and its emblem was modeled after the three-tomoe Sharingan. 30

Appearance

Uchiha shinobi are associated with black hair, while members who awaken the Sharingan possess scarlet eyes marked by tomoe. 1 45

Family loyalty is central to the clan’s identity. Madara and Izuna repeatedly prioritize Yan Hong’s safety, while Yan Hong’s plans are driven by a desire to prevent the clan’s future destruction and preserve its independence. 1 5 25

Following their defeat by the Senju, the clan’s leadership became more pragmatic. Yan Hong’s recruitment of vassal clans, seizure of political authority, and village-building plans transformed the Uchiha from an isolated war clan into the center of an expanding state. 7 25 29 30

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan’s defining bloodline ability. Awakening it greatly improves a shinobi’s combat strength and allows users to perceive opponents’ movements and chakra-based attacks. 1 22
