Background / History

Hashirama led the Senju during the final stage of their war against the Uchiha. After the Heno River supply route was destroyed, he chose a decisive battle rather than another prolonged conflict, while still refusing Tobirama’s calls to exterminate the Uchiha. His intended solution was a village where every clan, including the Uchiha, could coexist; he was even willing to see Madara serve as its leader. 6

At the Battle of East River Plains, Hashirama fought Madara while Tobirama and Izuna directed their respective forces. Though the Senju won, Hashirama’s offer to build a village together was rejected when Madara led the Uchiha away from the Land of Fire. 20 24

Three days after the war, Hashirama established the Hidden Leaf Village with the Land of Fire daimyo’s approval and named it after memories of his childhood friendship with Madara. He also took Sarutobi Hiruzen as a disciple following Sarutobi Sasuke’s death. 26

As Hokage, Hashirama pursued diplomatic balance rather than conquest.
