Background

Zhou Liang entered Douluo Mainland as a Reserve Traveler inhabiting a six-year-old body while retaining the thoughts and experience of his nineteen-year-old self. His temporary panel identified three Martial Souls—Soldier, Defense Tower, and Revival Spring—alongside the Everlasting Spring, Myriad Poisons Spring Transformation, Hundred States of Life Meditation, and Yin-Yang Harmonization techniques 5.

Following his Martial Soul awakening, Liu Erlong waived his academy expenses on the condition that he lead Lanba Academy into the finals of an All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament. She then accepted him as her disciple after he agreed to help her defeat Spirit Hall’s team 4.

His early development centered on building a legion rather than fighting as an ordinary Soul Master. He combined physical conditioning, poison absorption, Soul Power cultivation, troop formations, and practical instruction from Liu Erlong and Wang Hu to compensate for the Soldier Martial Soul’s demanding control requirements 7 9 12.

Appearance

At the beginning of his Douluo Mainland journey, Zhou Liang was a little over one meter tall and physically resembled a young child, despite possessing strength far beyond his age 4 9.

  • Developed visibly defined abdominal muscles through early swimming and physical training 11.
  • His right hand can transform crimson and heat up through Fire Poison and fire-attribute power 10 16.
  • His left hand can become icy blue or jade-like while wielding Ice Soul Poison and ice-attribute power 16 22.
  • A red-and-blue pattern appears across his back when he circulates Soul Power through it 17.
  • Later manifested red-and-blue dragon wings, which evolved to approximately four meters per wing 170.

Personality

Zhou Liang is methodical, ambitious, and unusually cautious for his apparent age. He routinely examines the limits, costs, and battlefield applications of every new ability before committing to a strategy, whether he is studying formations, evaluating Soul Ring choices, or testing an unfamiliar cultivation system 8 38 243.

He is disciplined in training and willing to endure repeated failure when improving his combat fundamentals. Under Wang Hu’s instruction, he accepted harsh balance, positioning, and defensive training rather than relying solely on his natural physical strength 11 12.

Although often emotionally reserved, Zhou Liang places genuine value on those who serve and trust him. He refused Zuo Ci’s offer of an exceptional cultivation path because it required erasing his generals, whom he regarded as living individuals rather than disposable tools 236.

He can also be ruthless toward enemies who threaten or betray him. After recognizing that the white-clad woman had poisoned him and used seduction as an assassination method, he killed her immediately and delegated the remaining battlefield cleanup to his generals 215.

Abilities & Skills

Soldier Martial Soul

Zhou Liang’s primary Martial Soul manifests as a detached half-armored warrior and later develops into a scalable military force. Damage dealt to the initial Soldier does not inflict pain or backlash on Zhou Liang, allowing him to command it from relative safety 5.

  • Individual Soldiers inherit Zhou Liang’s attributes, enhanced by Soul Power and the absorbed Soul Beast’s qualities 7.
  • Soldier quantity increases with stronger Soul Rings, while Zhou Liang’s physique influences both troop quality and summoning capacity 7 8.
  • Earlier Soul Ring abilities can transform after later rings are obtained, increasing capacity or creating new troop types 38.
  • Maintaining large formations consumes immense Soul Power; Revival Spring compensates for this weakness 38.

Shield-and-Sword Soldiers

His first Soul Ring produces Shield-and-Sword Soldiers equipped with Soul Power armor, tortoiseshell shields, and sabers 27.

  • Initially required direct attention and stopped moving after charging if not commanded 7.
  • Later gained Synchronization, enabling units to mirror Zhou Liang’s movements without splitting his focus 8.
  • Upgraded in the Gods’ Game from White-grade soldiers inheriting 50% of his attributes into Yellow Elite units inheriting 60% and gaining Cleave and Shield Bash 268.
  • Could eventually be summoned in groups exceeding sixty units in the early game system 268.

Spearmen

His second Soul Skill, Spearmen, summons eight armored soldiers wielding Golden Serpent Spears 32.

  • Inherit the Golden-Ring Azure Wind Python’s speed, durability, and piercing properties 32.
  • Their attacks can penetrate ordinary Soul Power defenses 32.
  • Excel at concentrated offensive thrusts but lack the Giant Shield Soldiers’ defense and maneuverability 79.

Giant Shield Soldiers

Zhou Liang’s third Soul Skill summons Giant Shield Soldiers, a troop type built around heavy defense and forceful charges 79 111.

  • Could summon fifty-six Giant Shield Soldiers by Soul Power level 49 111.
  • Form large shield formations capable of blocking concentrated assaults and trampling less mobile troops 79.
  • Their main limitation is poor flexibility against fast, mobile Shield-Blade units 79.

Iron Cavalry

His fourth Soul Skill, Iron Cavalry, transforms the Martial Soul Soldier into a heavily armored mounted warrior armed with a crescent blade and bow 82.

  • The bow fires destructive golden Soul Power arrows but requires substantial charging time and Soul Power 82.
  • The crescent blade uses a three-step charge attack capable of cutting through trees, boulders, and terrain 82.
  • Its close-range charged strike can seriously injure opponents below Soul King level if it lands 82.
  • The Black-Armored Flying Steed could later be modified into the ice-based Ice-Soul Horse for escape and transport 85.

Command, Synchronization, and Formations

Zhou Liang received the Stepping, Command, and Synchronization talents through stars that merged into his mind, along with military formations 7.

  • CommandSoul Power-infused commands produce sound-wave mental attacks that weaken enemy mental techniques 8.
  • Stepping — Coordinated steps generate Soul Power pressure and vibrations; Zhou Liang later discovered that it can also condense his Soul Power during cultivation 35 39.
  • Synchronization — Allows Soldiers to perfectly match his movements, sharply reducing the mental burden of controlling large forces 8.
  • “Charge!” — Increases troop movement speed 111.
  • “Kill!” — Focuses and amplifies a combined troop attack 111.
  • “All troops, form ranks!” — Summons more than two hundred Soldiers in under one second, compared with nearly two seconds for ordinary deployment 111.
  • Gale Speed Formation — Provides a scaling movement increase and an 80% burst lasting five seconds for Zhou Liang 8.
  • Wall of Defense Formation — Creates a movable semicircular barrier that can travel in straight lines 8.
  • Golden Lock of Eight Gates — An advanced formation requiring at least sixty-four soldiers 8.
  • Myriad-Image Wind Dragon Formation — Creates tornadoes that can advance into wind dragons; four dragons defeated the Netherworld White Tiger fusion skill 145 146.

Revival Spring

Zhou Liang’s third Martial Soul is a recovery and revival structure with exceptional Soul Power sustain 5.

  • Can restore Zhou Liang’s soul even after it is shattered; recovery time depends on the extent of destruction 5.
  • Restores energy and health at 30% and 10% per second respectively, with both values increasing alongside his Soul Rings 38.
  • Allows sustained deployment of otherwise Soul Power-intensive Soldier forces 38.
  • Can record True Spirits and support revival under specified conditions 91 111.
  • Later evolved toward repairing and restoring souls, making it especially effective for recovering his soul-based generals 227.

Defense Tower Martial Soul

Zhou Liang’s second Martial Soul develops into a territory-defense system rather than a conventional direct-combat Martial Soul 5 344.

  • Includes Arrow Towers, Magic Towers, Stone Pillar Towers, and Sunflowers 344.
  • Provides physical and magical attacks, aerial defense, heavy impact damage, defensive tanking, and enhancement effects 344.
  • Its tower-based early-game strength outperformed many gold-grade talents through synergy and versatility 344.
  • Special towers are unique; he cannot create multiple identical copies 304.

Ice-and-Fire Power

After absorbing Fire Poison and Ice Soul Poison, Zhou Liang’s heart and lungs transformed and gave his Soul Power dual fire-and-ice attributes 16.

  • Absorbs fire and ice attributes and converts them into stamina 16.
  • Repairs injuries and restores Soul Power 16.
  • Enhances Fire Poison and grants potent Ice Soul Poison 16.
  • Can extinguish flames by drawing heat from their source 16.
  • Developed into Ultimate Ice-and-Fire Power, Dragon Soul manifestations, Ice-Fire Dragon Wings, and an Icefire Domain 190 238 281.
  • Uses ice-and-fire runes to create dragon-shaped constructs and fixed domains 238 243.

Poison Arts

The Myriad Poisons Spring Transformation Technique allows Zhou Liang to neutralize toxins, use them to strengthen his body, and develop poison-related abilities 10.

  • Mild poisons initially provided cumulative physical enhancement 3.
  • Fire Poison grants heated palm strikes and poisonous palm winds 10.
  • Five-Poison Palm combines ice-and-fire power for decisive close-range attacks 203.
  • Poison designed to disrupt the Five-Poison Palm became ineffective after his poisonous power was purified into flames 215.

Cultivation Techniques

  • Everlasting Spring Technique — Strengthens vitality, recovery, endurance, growth potential, and internal energy; it became the basis for several later breakthroughs 3 11 197.
  • Hundred States of Life Meditation Technique — Simulates complete lives in his mind to increase spiritual power and divide his attention without a stated upper limit 3.
  • Yin-Yang Harmonization Technique — Progresses through five stages and creates initial fondness in women that may develop into different emotions depending on the individual 19 20.
  • Hard-and-Soft Qi — A preparatory cultivation method for the Eight Gates, adapted to use Soul Power in place of internal energy 41.
  • Duality Creation Scripture — His self-created long-term method, centered on wood attributes and supported by ice and fire after he fused multiple power systems 254.

Battle Qi and War Qi

Zhou Liang later integrated foreign cultivation systems into his existing foundation 252 254.

  • Battle Qi — Cultivated to Battle Master during a short stay in the Battle Through the Heavens world and later advanced to Battle King and beyond 252 308.
  • War Qi — Forms a sea of qi and nine rune-like Qi Beans capable of strengthening attacks and physical condition 254.
  • Boiling Battle Intent — Causes his strength and battle intent to rise continuously in combat, eventually replenishing War Qi 254.
  • Battle Qi Soul — A developing soul nurtured from the Demon General’s Soul rather than directly inherited from it 254.

Generals and Profession Templates

Zhou Liang can transform acquired troop professions into permanent Profession Templates and integrate their abilities into himself 197.

  • Fully mastered the Shield-and-Sword Soldier profession and learned to condense its permanent template 197.
  • Acquired additional soldier professions through synthesized training manuals, including Beast Tamer, Ironclad Soldier, Halberd Soldier, Blue-Clad Archer, and Strong Short-Weapon Soldier 205.
  • Commands major generals including Lionheart King, Golden Snake, Shield Mountain, Azure Dragon, and the Artisan 212 240.
  • Lionheart King can independently summon Super Soldiers corresponding to Zhou Liang’s Soul Rings with permission 212.
  • The generals began developing domain-like abilities as the system stars fused with their Soul Rings 212.
  • Zhou Liang ultimately assembled an army including Super Soldiers, cavalry, mages, Dragon-Head Cannons, Overlord Wyvern Cavalry, and the Heavenly Demon 243.

Equipment and Items

  • Soul Guide bracelet — Silver storage device gifted by Liu Erlong, initially containing bags of gold coins 11.
  • Soul Bone Armor — Golden skeletal armor that substantially enhances his direct combat strength and elemental weapon creation 243 284.
  • Zhang Ling Sword — Single-use magical artifact capable of bypassing defenses up to the fifth tier; four can potentially unlock Flying Sword Art 193.
  • Divine Brush — Artifact with eight abilities, including the immobilizing command “Freeze” 248.

  • Wang Hu — Combat instructor and traveling guardian. He drilled Zhou Liang’s fundamentals, helped him obtain his second and fourth Soul Rings, and trained him in formations and small-unit tactics 12 32 82.
  • Dugu Yan — Romantic partner and early connection to Dugu Bo. Zhou Liang helped neutralize her poison, while their combined cultivation later eliminated it completely 21 93.
  • Xiao Wu — Close companion and Revival Spring True Spirit recipient. She accepted Zhou Liang’s revival conditions and remained closely involved in his cultivation and travels 91 330.
