Background / History

Thirty years before the present story, Qian Daoliu encountered Wu Changming, the Frost Sword Douluo. Changming defeated Qian and Spirit Hall's other leading experts, but Qian nevertheless aided his search for a divine inheritance by proposing a contest among Limit Douluo. The battle attracted the Shura God's attention and led to Changming receiving the Shura God Test. 23 24 25

Qian later invited Changming to Spirit Hall and made him the first outsider permitted into the Angel Temple. There, he revealed the Angel Clan's divine heritage and his hope that a descendant would inherit the Angel God's position. Changming's vision of the future confirmed that Qian's descendant would indeed become a god and would marry Wu Qingkong. 26 27

Although Qian wanted closer ties between their families, the marriage agreement between Qian Renxue and Wu Qingkong was ultimately proposed by Changming. Qian regarded the promise as a debt of loyalty to “Brother Frost Sword” and preserved it even after Changming's death. 15 23 29

After Qian Xunji's death, Qian Daoliu gradually withdrew into the Offering Hall and stopped interfering in continental affairs. He knew that his son had committed wrongs and that Bibi Dong had killed him, but endured the loss for Renxue's sake. Renxue subsequently became the principal source of warmth and hope in his later years. 95

When Renxue returned to Spirit Hall intending to dissolve the engagement, Qian refused her request despite indulging nearly every other wish she made. He tried to delay the marriage rather than force it immediately, giving her an ice-blue sword pendant that would react to Frost Sword's descendant. 15 16

Wu Qingkong's arrival at Spirit Hall created a crisis: Qian expected a proposal, while Qingkong had come to cancel the engagement. Qian convened the seven offerings, entertained Qingkong respectfully, and briefly approved a plan to adopt Hu Liena as a substitute granddaughter if Renxue remained unwilling. 17 19 20

After learning that Qingkong truly wished to end the arrangement, Qian was devastated. However, he rejected Hu Liena's request for a new engagement, explaining that love and happiness could not be secured by a contract if Qingkong himself did not consent. He later placed his hopes in fate rather than the broken agreement. 23 30

He subsequently returned Qingkong's engagement-cancellation ring with a letter expressing his conviction that Qingkong and Renxue would reunite and become engaged again. Qingkong initially remained resistant to this prediction. 45

When Renxue's Life Tablet shattered following her apparent death, Qian's grief overcame his usual composure. Believing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect responsible, he departed for Heaven Dou with all six other offerings to seek vengeance. 94 95

He ultimately found Renxue alive and openly affectionate with Qingkong. Once Guang Ling and the protectors explained their history, Qian welcomed the relationship with satisfaction, seeing the former engagement transformed into genuine mutual love. 99 100

His relief was tempered by the discovery that Renxue had sacrificed herself to save Qingkong before being revived. Despite appreciating Qingkong and approving of their affection, Qian and the other offerings retained resentment over the danger surrounding the prematurely initiated palace coup and Renxue's death. 100 105

After examining Renxue's altered Soul Power, Qian recognized Angelic Divine Power and celebrated the beginning of her Angel God inheritance. Renxue credited Qingkong's two immortal herbs with enabling her early breakthrough and urged the offerings to forgive him. Qian nevertheless postponed their wedding, arguing that the fall of the Heaven Dou Empire and Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect would create continental chaos that Spirit Hall needed to resolve first. During the same gathering, he condemned the frozen Tang Hao for his repeated opposition to Spirit Hall and invoked the old wager that had previously restrained his actions against the Clear Sky Sect. 105

When Qingkong asked to restore the engagement, Qian agreed in principle but wanted the marriage delayed until Qingkong could protect Renxue against threats such as the Clear Sky Sect and Sea God Island. Renxue then revealed that her second Angel God Trial required her to marry the Shura God's inheritor and obtain the approval of all seven offerings within one year. Unwilling to risk her death through failure of the examination, the offerings deliberated overnight and provisionally agreed, requiring the couple to remain in Spirit Hall for safety. Their decision did not yet constitute the wholehearted recognition needed for Qingkong's Shura God Test. 106 108

Qian accompanied the couple back to Spirit City and arranged separate, neighboring rooms for them. As the offerings continued struggling with their lingering resentment, he pointed out that he could not resolve the prejudices in their hearts for them. The ensuing efforts to test Qingkong gradually brought the other offerings to accept him. 108 122 125

During this period, Qian Jun and Jiang Mo returned from meeting Qingkong and requested repeated attacks from Qian's ninth Soul Skill, Angel's Breath. Qingkong had persuaded them that confronting a much stronger opponent would help develop the fearless spirit needed for the Unyielding Staff Technique. Though initially bewildered by their requests, Qian agreed and restrained his power to avoid killing them. Their repeated training subsequently began loosening their long-standing Soul Power bottlenecks. 112 113

Once the other six offerings had sincerely accepted Qingkong, Qian summoned him privately to the Angel Temple and formally approved the marriage. He explained that Renxue's divine inheritance would eventually require his sacrifice and that he wished to see her married while he still had time. Qingkong promised to revive him after attaining Shura Godhood, but Qian accepted his expected fate and asked only that Qingkong treat Renxue well. His final recognition completed Qingkong's third Shura God Test. 125

In the same meeting, Qian entrusted Qingkong with Ten-Thousand-Year Mysterious Ice Marrow and ordered a search for a Dragon Core, supporting Qingkong's plan to help Golden Crocodile reach Limit Douluo through Dual Soul Cores. He urged Qingkong to strengthen their forces before confronting the Clear Sky Sect to seek justice for Renxue, warning that Tang Chen might still be alive and could intervene if the sect faced annihilation. As the Angel God's High Priest, Qian had to remain at the Angel Temple and could not personally join the expedition. 124 125

Qian and the other offerings arranged the couple's wedding and selected the Lantern Festival as its date. At the public ceremony in Spirit City, he cooperated with Bibi Dong to gather the released blue and golden lanterns into a huge heart above the newlyweds, publicly celebrating their union. 126 130 131 135 136

A year after the wedding, Qingkong and Renxue departed for the Far North to complete their divine examinations. With Bibi Dong and Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluo also away on a soul hunt, Qingkong regarded Qian's continued presence in the Offering Hall as Spirit Hall's principal remaining safeguard, though he still hoped to return quickly. 143 144

Appearance

Qian Daoliu is an elderly man with a beard and the imposing presence expected of Spirit Hall's Grand Offering. When acting, he manifests magnificent golden wings and travels as a golden meteor. 95 100

Personality

Qian is deeply loyal to old bonds. He treats Changming's marriage proposal as a solemn promise rather than a political convenience, refusing to dismiss it even when Renxue and the other offerings urge him to do so. 15 18

He is indulgent and affectionate toward Renxue, readily seeing through her attempts to charm him while still treating her as the light of his later years. His resolve weakens only when her happiness or safety is at stake. 15 95

Despite his initial rigidity over the engagement, Qian can reassess his position. His advice to Hu Liena—that love cannot be forced through formal arrangements—shows that he ultimately values willing affection over empty obligation. 23

His approval of Qingkong remains tempered by protective caution. Even after discovering the couple's genuine love, he initially regards marriage as premature while Qingkong lacks the strength to withstand Spirit Hall's most powerful enemies. His lingering resentment over Renxue's death also contributes to his wish to delay the wedding. 105 106

Qian is considerate toward his fellow offerings, carefully limiting his attacks when Qian Jun and Jiang Mo seek training against him. He also recognizes that their personal grievances cannot simply be removed through his authority as leader. 108 112

His devotion to the Angel Clan extends to calm acceptance of his expected sacrifice. Rather than demanding that Qingkong save him, he warns against reckless attempts at resurrection and places Renxue's future happiness above his own survival. 125
