Hu Liena trained as one of Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation under Bibi Dong. Despite her title as Holy Maiden, she regarded herself as inferior to Qian Renxue within Spirit Hall’s hierarchy and feared she was being treated only as a substitute. The Consecration Hall forcibly brought her from training to meet Wu Qingkong as a potential replacement fiancée for Qian Renxue. 20

Her first meeting with Wu Qingkong transformed her fear into attraction. He comforted her with cake and clarified that he had come to Spirit Hall to dissolve an engagement, not arrange a new one. Relieved that she was not being forced to marry him, Hu Liena immediately resolved to pursue him herself. 20

After Wu Qingkong rejected her confession, Hu Liena accepted Bibi Dong’s encouragement to improve herself through cultivation. She later attended the Heaven Dou Lake Matchmaking Fair, where she openly rejected Yan and stated that she had already chosen Wu Qingkong in her heart. 31 52

Unable to move on from Wu Qingkong and dissatisfied with ordinary competition, Hu Liena entered the City of Slaughter to become stronger. There, she encountered the masked swordsman “Shura,” not realizing he was Wu Qingkong under an altered appearance. 61 63

Hu Liena initially interpreted Qian Renxue’s willingness to cancel the engagement as an opportunity to pursue Wu Qingkong without competing against her. When the worshippers summoned Wu Qingkong for a private discussion, Hu Liena feared that they would harm him. She brought Bibi Dong to intervene and briefly believed that Wu Qingkong had been killed when she found him gone. After Qian Daoliu assured her that he had departed safely, she persuaded her teacher to catch up with him so that she could confess before losing the opportunity. 28 30

Bibi Dong registered Hu Liena for the matchmaking fair to help her move beyond her obsessive cultivation and attachment to Wu Qingkong. Instead, his arrival rekindled her hopes before his exclusive attention to Qian Qingxue disappointed her. When Xie Yue joined the attempt to obstruct him, Hu Liena protested and asked her brother to let Wu Qingkong leave with the woman he loved, declaring that his happiness was enough for her. 51 55

Shura and the City of Slaughter

Before sending Hu Liena to the City of Slaughter, Bibi Dong attempted to introduce her to other promising young men, including the level-73 Soul Sage Wang Zhenxing. Hu Liena rejected the match and abandoned the Soul Master Tournament because its ordinary competitors no longer interested her. 63

After Shura rescued her from an ambush, Hu Liena tried to replace her lingering attachment to Wu Qingkong with love for her rescuer. She offered herself as proof of sincerity, but Shura refused to exploit her and protected her privacy. His restraint deepened her affection, leading her to reveal her identity, propose cooperation on Hell Road, and invite him to join Spirit Hall. Hu Liena completed one hundred consecutive arena victories and traversed Hell Road with the three streams of sword qi Shura had given her. During the trial, she used that sword qi to kill the Ten-Headed Fierce Yang Serpent and obtained its inner core. Concern over the immense sword intent and snowfall emerging from the City of Slaughter prompted her to return, where she discovered Wu Qingkong’s face beneath Shura’s shattered mask. 71 72 115

Although devastated by the revelation that both men she loved were the same person, Hu Liena cared for Wu Qingkong and defended him while he absorbed his soul ring. She then departed secretly, leaving a note urging him to live well and acknowledging that Shura had not died. 73 74

Return to Spirit Hall

When Wu Qingkong returned to Spirit Hall with Qian Renxue, Hu Liena briefly believed that his relationship with a second woman might leave room for her as well. Bibi Dong explained that Qian Qingxue and Qian Renxue were the same person and that her daughter had remained beside him under several disguises. Hu Liena tearfully said that she would slowly let go, but refused her teacher’s proposed introduction to the Ice Cream Man. 108

Hu Liena subsequently overheard Guang Ling and Mighty Lion Douluo discussing opposition to Wu Qingkong’s marriage. Hoping to help him, she offered the Ten-Headed Fierce Yang Serpent’s inner core to Lion under Wu Qingkong’s name, accompanied by a forged letter requesting support for the marriage. Although helping him marry Qian Renxue hurt her deeply, she decided that their happiness mattered more than her remaining hopes. Guang Ling identified her as the true author through the letter’s inconsistencies, tear mark, and fragrance. 115 116

Inner Core Incident

After the inner core was returned, Hu Liena rewrote the accompanying letter under Qian Renxue’s name and delivered it to Wu Qingkong’s room, hoping he would accept it. Lion and Guang Ling had engineered the return of the treasure and followed her. Their infusion of origin Soul Power overwhelmed Wu Qingkong, prompting Hu Liena to rush inside and help him while concealing her identity. He mistook her for Qian Renxue and swallowed the core, whose violent Yang energy left him overheated and disoriented. 118

While Guang Ling diverted Qian Renxue elsewhere, Hu Liena approached and embraced Wu Qingkong, offering to accept intimacy without any recognized status. He identified her by her scent, pushed her away, and erected an ice barrier, declaring that his love belonged only to Qian Renxue. 119

Hu Liena then used Martial Soul Possession and Fox Charm to influence his mind, invoke their shared memories, and cross the barrier in an attempt to kiss him. His Heavenfrost Sword stopped her, and an influx of Shura Divine Power dispelled her charm. Despite further pleading, he refused and told her to leave, withdrawing his sword rather than injuring her. Administrative Responsibilities and Later Acceptance

After Wu Qingkong married Qian Renxue and became Pope, Hu Liena congratulated the couple and acknowledged privately that he loved someone else. Wu Qingkong apologized for displacing her from the path that would ordinarily have led her to the papacy. He promised to return the position to her after dealing with the Evil Soul Masters and asked her to manage Spirit Hall’s affairs while he devoted more time to his wife. 136 143

Her experiences in the City of Slaughter sharpen her resolve without completely erasing her kindness. Although she becomes a feared arena combatant, she still protects Wu Qingkong while he absorbs his soul ring and refuses to let Fallen Ones prey upon him. 71 73
