Background and History

Chen Shaojun began as a slave apprentice appraiser of the Lin Clan Pawnshop. He shared cramped communal lodging with other apprentices and lived under the constant threat posed by treasures saturated with Killing Intent, as well as the pawnshop’s violent hierarchy. His early priority was survival: he cultivated martial arts because stronger qi and blood would improve the spiritual power required for appraisal. 3 13 23

The Spirit-Seeking Treasure Mirror transformed his prospects. Through its appraisal rewards, he accumulated martial arts, Daoist methods, professional knowledge, pills, and rare treasures while concealing his actual growth. He studied at the Iron Wire Fist School partly to create a credible explanation for his sudden physical improvement, but also used its instruction to understand conventional martial cultivation. 24 33

After surviving Appraisal Hall, Chen received his sale contract from the Lin Family and tore it apart, becoming a free commoner. He was appointed the Lin Clan Pawnshop’s third formal appraiser, chose not to reside in the pawnshop, and later purchased White-Stem Mountain Manor to secure privacy for cultivation and appraisal. 150 152

His secrecy became essential after Xu Hongtao exposed him to the Red-Clad Cult. Chen investigated Xu through a stolen jade pendant, killed Wang Xinyuan and Xu after their ambush, then burned the bodies and scattered their souls to prevent later soul-summoning investigations. 152 155 156

As his strength rose, Chen repeatedly used disguises to separate his public identity as an appraiser from his martial exploits. During the caravan conflict, he acted as the “Road Sweeper” and later “Kunlun,” while fellow travelers unknowingly praised him as the “Invincible Swordsman.” 209 215

Chen eventually became an Appraisal Grandmaster and chief appraiser of Number One Appraisal Hall. Personality

Chen is pragmatic, cautious, and intensely committed to self-preservation. Early in his cultivation, he openly chose to avoid dangers that did not concern him, believing that survival came before justice or heroism. He values fairness and does not seize treasures merely because he has the strength to do so.
