Background
Chen Qiu began his current life as a woodcutter in Windward City. After Fat Dragon taught him the basics of cultivation, he entered the Qi Refining Realm and received the seven-colored entry Rise at Every Step. Recognizing that its true value would make him a target, he deliberately downplayed it as a late-game ability with little immediate use. 2
His early cultivation was defined by rapid advancement, secret realms, demon-beast hunting, and an increasingly close partnership with Fat Dragon. He developed as a spell cultivator rather than following sword cultivation, using abundant spiritual energy and the Lightning-Channeling Art to overwhelm enemies. His stated reason for cultivating remained simple: “To survive. To survive with dignity.” 33 73
After recovering the memories of his earlier lives, Chen Qiu learned that he had transmigrated and reincarnated repeatedly over roughly a thousand years. His past incarnations included a destitute rogue cultivator, a white-robed sword cultivator, and Great Xia’s Imperial Preceptor. His long-term objective across those lives was to break Great Xia’s confinement and reach the outside world. 144
As the Imperial Preceptor, Chen Qiu had arranged opportunities and contingencies for his tenth life, including the Rainbow trait Rise at Every Step. He also laid plans involving the Mocking Heaven Sect, Scholar, Great Xia’s inheritances, and the Nascent Soul puppets imprisoning the kingdom. Many of his greatest later gains, however, came from accidents beyond those plans. 144
Chen Qiu publicly revealed himself as Great Xia’s Imperial Preceptor after entering the imperial palace and defeating Xia Jiqiu’s ultimate sword technique with the rim of his Heavenly Secrets Umbrella. The Xia imperial family, guards, attendants, Scholar, and Fat Dragon acknowledged his authority. 145
With Scholar’s help, he eventually defeated the Nascent Soul sword-cultivator puppet guarding the Boundless Snow Mountains. Chen Qiu passed through the summit portal and escaped Great Xia’s “prison,” arriving in the Mystic Heaven Continent after a thousand-year struggle. 151
Appearance
Chen Qiu is a young-looking cultivator whose bone age was still under thirty when he had already reached Golden Core Fifth Layer. He is frequently seen carrying the Heavenly Secrets Umbrella, and his black-robed figure amid a raging storm became an iconic image among Quzhou cultivators. 143 163
- Usually carries the Heavenly Secrets Umbrella. 145
- Commonly fights amid storm clouds, snowfall, and masses of Thunder Dragons. 142 224
- Has been described as gentle-looking and outwardly modest, though observers often suspect that this demeanor conceals his true nature. 125
- Can conceal himself completely through A Leaf Blinds the Eye. 319
Personality
Chen Qiu is pragmatic, cautious, and intensely survival-oriented. He hid Rise at Every Step immediately after obtaining it, later concealed information about inheritances and rare materials, and routinely evaluates abilities according to long-term utility rather than appearance or grade. 2 109 267
He values strength as the means to preserve dignity, freedom, and the lives of those under his protection. This does not make him conventionally merciful: he is willing to kill enemies decisively, exploit an opponent’s weaknesses, and use deception when needed. He nevertheless rejects power that he considers needlessly cruel, such as trait combinations requiring the systematic manipulation and murder of those who love him. 33 84 159
Despite his detached manner, Chen Qiu invests heavily in trusted companions. He supports Scholar’s recovery and sword cultivation, shares rare resources with Fat Dragon, promotes capable subordinates, and builds the Mocking Heaven Sect around specialized talents rather than raw cultivation alone. 112 160 174
Abilities & Skills
Rise at Every Step
Chen Qiu’s original Rainbow entry grants him an additional trait-selection opportunity whenever he advances by a minor realm.
- At each minor breakthrough, he may choose one trait from three random options. 2
- This lets him accumulate unusually broad trait synergies, including recovery, casting, defense, mobility, and cultivation enhancements. 73 113
- Chen Qiu refused to self-destruct the original trait after acquiring its superior version because he considers it a symbol of his early hardships and rise. 264
Rise at Every Step (Supreme Grade)
His second permanent Rainbow trait supersedes the original entry.
- Grants both a normal trait selection and a selection among three Supreme-Grade traits at every minor-realm breakthrough. 259
- Guarantees one Supreme-Grade trait per minor breakthrough. 259
- Its acquisition caused Chen Qiu to briefly abandon his usual composure and celebrate openly. 259
Lightning-Channeling Art
Chen Qiu’s primary combat method is an exceptionally amplified lightning spell.
- Reached Great Perfection by Foundation Establishment Second Layer. 73
- Can unleash immense quantities of Thunder Dragons across entire battlefields, making concealment and conventional anti-spell tactics ineffective. 126 224
- Benefits from casting traits such as Dual Casting, Tenfold Casting, Myriad Arts Unified, and later the Pink trait More Is Better. 175 344
- Its speed and area of effect make Chen Qiu particularly dangerous against groups, formations, and opponents who evade divine-sense locks. 126 224
Three Thousand Thunders’ Wrath
Chen Qiu’s Heavenly Dao Apex Body Integration Killing Art.
- Chosen from his spells because Lightning-Channeling Art was his strongest foundation. 261
- Was raised to Grade Twenty-Seven when Edict Regular doubled the Heavenly Dao’s reward. 261
- Can summon tens of millions of lightning bolts and exceed the ninth strike of a First-Rank Heavenly Tribulation. 261
- Its extended charging time makes it difficult to use against highly mobile opponents. 262
Self-Destruct Trait
A sacrificial trump card that converts traits into overwhelming temporary power.
- Lets Chen Qiu destroy one of his traits to unleash an attack one major realm above his current cultivation. 15
- Sacrificing Flawless Body produced a lightning strike with Golden Core-level power and instantly killed a Seventh-Level Foundation Establishment demonic cultivator. 39
- Chen Qiu also uses trait self-destruction to purge harmful traits acquired from the White Trait Bundle. 338
Spiritual Energy and Recovery
Chen Qiu possesses abnormal spiritual reserves and multiple methods of replenishment.
- His Heavenly Dao Foundation cultivates automatically, allowing him to gather information or observe surroundings while still progressing. 45
- Revival Wind heals him while he absorbs spiritual energy; its upgraded form can also restore spiritual energy when he is injured. 73 108
- A custom needle-filled armguard can deliberately wound him and restore spiritual energy within three breaths. 112
- His Minor World gives him a secure place to recover spiritual energy between attacks. He used this repeatedly to wear down the Nascent Soul puppet guarding Great Xia’s exit. 151
Divine Sense and Merit Body
Chen Qiu supplements his spellcasting with divine-sense attacks and exceptional physical strength.
- Heart-Piercing Thorn can defeat opponents through direct attacks on the soul or sea of consciousness. 126 199
- His Heavenly Dao Saint constitution completely neutralized a Myriad Souls Banner containing thousands of vengeful spirits. 126
- The Twelfth-Grade Maximum Merit Body grants extreme physical power and speed, allowing him to tunnel through a mountain with a punch. 200
Domains, Traits, and Absolute Techniques
Chen Qiu continually expands his toolkit with rare traits, domains, and completed collections.
- His Void Refinement Domains include Infinite Spiritual Energy and Three Thousand Thunder Motions. 224
- A Leaf Blinds the Eye grants absolute undetectability and increased movement speed while invisible. 319
- Void Targeting lets him attack anyone whose true name and appearance he knows, regardless of distance or Heavenly Dao restrictions. 272
- By completing the Human Emperor Banners from White through Red, he gained access to every trait of those grades. 349 352
- Mysterious Nether allows his lightning-based law power to become weapons, shields, ranged attacks, or bodily reinforcement. 352
