With his legs crossed,
Dan Jing sat beside the Immortal Table, leaning back on his stool in utter comfort.
He raised his cup and took a small sip.
Then he sighed contentedly.
"Now this... this is Bashi!"
After a sip of wine, Dan Jing took a bite of food—
He wasn't the sort to drink without eating!
He was lounging there, eagerly awaiting the show,
while beneath the Wutong Tree on Fengqi Mountain,
Nuwa, who already bore Dan Jing a deep grudge, saw the way he was carrying on. Her sacred, breathtakingly beautiful face went from pale to livid.
At last,
it turned a terrifying shade of red!
Beside her,
Fuxi, who had always prided himself on being calm and gracious, began to breathe faster.
What could he say?
He didn't mind Dan Jing watching from the shadows. He wouldn't even have minded if Dan Jing made no attempt to hide his gaze!
Plenty of powerful figures across the world were watching.
However intense Dan Jing's gaze was, it was only one among many!
But damn it—
bringing snacks, wine, a table, and a stool, then lounging outside Fengqi Mountain as though he had a front-row seat to a show? That was going too far!
He didn't take Fuxi or his sister Nuwa seriously at all!
"Hmph!"
Nuwa snorted, her face flushed.
She stepped forward and transformed into a streak of Creation Immortal Light, appearing in the sky beyond Fengqi Mountain in an instant.
Seeing this,
Fuxi frowned and followed close behind, appearing in the sky outside Fengqi Mountain.
The siblings stood there, both looking toward Dan Jing, who was shelling pine nuts in the distance.
Nuwa opened her mouth.
But just as she was about to speak, Fuxi stopped his sister, whose grudge against Dan Jing ran deep.
He stepped forward
and addressed Dan Jing himself.
"Fellow Daoist Dan Jing, what brings you here?"
Crack!
Dan Jing shelled a pine nut and tossed it into his mouth.
He glanced at Fuxi with his golden eyes, but said nothing. He had no interest in answering.
That attitude stirred a flicker of anger in Fuxi.
He tried again.
"Fellow Daoist Dan Jing—"
Crack!
Fuxi had barely addressed him when the sound of Dan Jing cracking another pine nut cut him off.
Then,
those calm, indifferent golden eyes settled squarely on Fuxi, bearing down on him with a profound pressure.
Dan Jing's smile faded a little, as did the ease in his expression.
He looked at Fuxi, who had fallen silent under his gaze.
Dan Jing brought his right thumb and forefinger together
and smiled.
"Be good—
"keep that little mouth shut!
"Don't make me slap you while I'm having a good time!"
With that,
Dan Jing turned his now-chilly golden eyes on Nuwa's flushed face. After a single glance, he looked away.
She had already lost to him. She wasn't worth mentioning!
"You..."
Nuwa grew angrier still, her face reddening further as she moved to berate him.
Smack!
Fuxi raised a hand to stop Nuwa. His brows were tightly knit, his expression grave.
"Sister, let it go," he urged.
At the same time,
he sent Nuwa a mental message, spelling out what was at stake.
"Right now, dealing with the Twelve Ancestral Witches and the Witch Race matters more than trading insults with Daoist Dan Jing.
"Besides—
"Daoist Dan Jing... really will attack us!"
Nuwa froze at Fuxi's message.
Oh.
He was right!
She had been so fed up that she'd lost her head for a moment. She had nearly forgotten that the Sun Star Madman, that thrill-seeking lunatic, was the sort of brute who would attack the moment he said he would.
If she kept provoking him...
she and her brother wouldn't even need to face the Twelve Ancestral Witches or the Witch Race.
They'd be
lying on the ground and wailing before that!
At the thought,
Nuwa pulled in all her anger and resentment toward Dan Jing, burying it deep.
That had been close—
Without Fuxi's reminder, she would have lost all sense of proportion.
That Sun Star Madman was a menace—
he was far too good at getting under people's skin.
"You're right, Brother."
Having calmed down, Nuwa answered Fuxi and simply looked away from Dan Jing.
Out of sight, out of mind.
She wasn't angry!
She was Nuwa—
a Sage Realm disciple, with a heart generous enough not to be... not to be angry!
Seeing his sister calm down,
Fuxi breathed a sigh of relief.
He had genuinely feared Nuwa might throw caution to the wind and attack Dan Jing!
Of course,
a fight itself was nothing unusual. Plenty of cultivators in the Primordial World came to blows at the slightest disagreement.
The problem was—
neither he nor his sister could beat Dan Jing!
They would only be asking for a beating. No one would welcome that.
Not long after Fuxi and Nuwa backed down and began ignoring Dan Jing entirely,
outside Fengqi Mountain,
the Witch Race force from Pangu Divine Hall arrived. More than ten Grand Witches led over ten thousand of their people.
Ten thousand was not a large number.
Even arrayed outside Fengqi Mountain, they hardly made an overwhelming sight. Fortunately, the presence of more than ten Grand Witches more than made up for their lack of numbers.
They looked toward Fengqi Mountain and its activated protective formation.
The Grand Witches exchanged glances, then all turned to the strongest among them.
He met their gazes without hesitation or false modesty.
Taking two great strides toward Fengqi Mountain,
he called out,
"I am Grand Witch Yi. I've come with a message from Ancestral Witch Houtu. Would the master of this place please come out and speak with me?"
Da Yi's words were well chosen—
his voice was booming enough to hurt the ears, but he was polite!
So polite
that the powerful figures watching Fengqi Mountain from all corners of the world were surprised.
Judging by the Twelve Ancestral Witches' arrogance and everything they had seen of the Witch Race over the years,
not one member of the Witch Race—
from the Twelve Ancestral Witches down to an ordinary clansman—had ever seemed easy to talk to!
So why...
was this Grand Witch Yi speaking so courteously?
His manner was completely unlike the rest of them!
Where was the Witch Race's usual swagger and arrogance?
He was a Grand Witch of the Witch Race. He ought to act like one, not let them down!
The powerful onlookers were astonished.
But the Grand Witches and other members of the Witch Race who had come with Da Yi were not surprised at all.
They too served under Ancestral Witch Houtu, and they knew Da Yi's temperament well.
Under ordinary circumstances,
Da Yi was considered gentle, courteous, and easy to talk to by Witch Race standards.
Now,
high above Fengqi Mountain, Nuwa and Fuxi were also taken aback when they heard Da Yi's call!
He...
was so polite and courteous!
At first,
Fuxi and Nuwa had expected the Witch Race force to make outrageous demands or hurl abuse.
They had even thought the visitors might attack Fengqi Mountain outright!
But they never expected
the newcomers to call out for a meeting first—and so politely at that.
Well, well...
What a surprise.
Compared with this courteous Grand Witch Yi,
Dan Jing, the madman lounging nearby with pine nuts, wine, and food as he watched the show, was the least polite person in the Primordial World.
Damn—
even the Witch Race had better manners than Dan Jing!
