Background and History

Birth and Purple Cloud Palace

Dan Jing began as a giant fireball undergoing a difficult birth. Determined to benefit from Hongjun’s sermon despite having no external “cheat,” he rushed toward Purple Cloud Palace as soon as he could be born 2.

Hongjun left the palace gates open and delayed his first sermon for Dan Jing’s arrival. Dan Jing responded by casually greeting the Sage as “old man,” then attended the full three-thousand-year lecture on the Dao 3. He recognized the ordinary prayer mat beneath him as a cultivation treasure and attempted to take it when the gathering ended 3 5.

Eastern King Gong intervened over the prayer mat. Dan Jing immediately refined and killed him inside Purple Cloud Palace, leaving only a wisp of true spirit to return to the Great Dao True Spirit Sea. He seized the Twelfth-Grade World-Purifying White Lotus, Primordial Pure Yang Sword, Pure Yang Treasure Mirror, and Dragon-Headed Staff from the fallen leader of male immortals 5.

Mount Buzhou and Rise to Prominence

At Mount Buzhou, Dan Jing discovered the Primordial Gourd Vine growing in Nine Heavens Breath Soil. He claimed all seven gourds, fortified the site with the River Diagram, Luo Scripture, and World-Purifying White Lotus, and deliberately waited for the figures whose destined opportunity he had taken 7.

After defeating the Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, Hong Yun, and other Great Luo cultivators, he returned to the Sun Star with their treasures, spirit roots, and divine soils. He spared several powerful opponents because killing them would damage his own fortune and karmic foundation; Eastern King Gong had been an exception because Dan Jing believed Gong directly harmed his fate and blessings 10.

Following seclusion beneath the Fusang Divine Tree, he reached Great Luo perfection and began preparing for Hongjun’s second sermon 10.

Sun God and Refusal of Authority

After comprehending his Primordial Unity Dao, Dan Jing plucked his Primordial Golden Immortal Dao Fruit and received the Sun God Divine Office, making him the effective authority of the Sun Star. He also acquired the Sun Essence Wheel and used the Sun Star’s power to erase the Three Pure Ones’ imprints from treasures he had seized 18.

Dan Jing attended all three of Hongjun’s sermons. During the third, he alone listened through the entire three-thousand-year lecture; even Hongjun’s six disciples reached their limits before him 20 21. Hongjun subsequently gave him the Primordial Measure Ruler, damaged God-Slaying Spear, more than ten innate spiritual treasures, and a strand of Primordial Purple Qi 21.

Hongjun attempted to appoint him the Nine-Nine Sovereign, a ruler meant to unify Heaven and Earth. Dan Jing accepted the gifts but refused the position, regarding its responsibility as an unacceptable restriction on his freedom. He instead promised not to trouble Hongjun’s future Sage disciples unless they provoked him first 22.

Ordering Time and the Starry Sky

Dan Jing comprehended the Way of Solar and Lunar Rotation after observing Heaven and Earth for thirty thousand years. He concluded that the Sun and Lunar Stars should establish day and night, seasons, and calendars throughout the Primordial World 18 19.

He later borrowed the Kunlun Mirror to study its Time Dao imprint, created timekeeping treasures such as sundials, hourglasses, and calendar charts, and presented the Temporal Sequence Scale to the Heavenly Dao. The Heavenly Dao accepted the system, rewarded him with merit, and transformed his timekeeping artifacts into postnatal merit spiritual treasures 35 38.

As Sun God, Dan Jing undertook the construction of a Heavenly Circumference Stellar Formation that he alone could control. Xi He and Chang Xi assisted with lunar power and stellar pathways, while the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans supplied labor and resources 45 63 72.

The completed formation refined Chaos qi into heaven-and-earth essence, protected the Primordial World, and became self-sustaining without direct Sun or Lunar Star power. The Heavenly Dao rewarded its construction with unprecedented merit, transforming Dan Jing’s Merit Wheel into a golden “second sun” in the starry sky 72 73 74.

Dao-Proving Era

Although Dan Jing possessed sufficient merit and Primordial Purple Qi to become a Sage, he repeatedly rejected immediate Sainthood. He regarded a Sage Throne as a source of authority and obligation rather than true freedom, preferring to keep it as a concealed option 39 74 117.

He shared his Ten Thousand Daos Temper-Self Dao-Proving Method with Xi He and Chang Xi for three thousand years. The Sun Star recorded the method, allowing future cultivators to glimpse it through sunlight and earning Dan Jing additional merit for spreading the Dao 118.

Dan Jing later guided the Three Pure Ones, Jieyin, and Zhunti toward their respective opportunities for Sainthood after forcibly gathering and defeating them. He directed the Three Pure Ones to establish an orthodox Mystic Gate seat, while pointing Jieyin and Zhunti toward the revival of the Western Lands 193 197.

He also challenged Hongjun in Violet Cloud Palace, declaring himself invincible within the Primordial World. Hongjun’s indifference made Dan Jing recognize that the Dao-integrated Sage remained beyond his current reach 198 199.

Later Influence

Dan Jing reshaped the Primordial World by integrating the ninefold heavenly canopy and earthly curtain into its laws, then creating four permanent Sky-Supporting Treasure Peaks at the world’s extremities. Heaven, Earth, and the myriad beings received projections and hymns preserving his achievement, while the Heavenly Dao granted him immense merit and a new strand of Primordial Purple Qi 240.

He later announced a contest for a recipient worthy of the transferable Primordial Purple Qi he possessed, promising protection and guidance toward Sagehood to anyone capable of impressing him 245 246.

To make the Primordial World less dependent on prophecy, Dan Jing concealed all heavenly secrets from Sages and cultivators while retaining access himself. He intended to force every faction to rely on real judgment, communication, and strategy instead of deduction 255.

He is shamelessly direct around authority. He calls Hongjun “old man,” treats powerful cultivators as potential entertainment, and uses humor to disguise threats, insults, and demands 3 59 195. His confidence is supported by careful judgment: he avoids killing powerful rivals when their deaths would harm his fortune, deliberately conceals the breadth of his abilities, and keeps major trump cards under his personal control 10 28 45.

Despite his selfishness and harsh teaching style, Dan Jing can be unexpectedly generous. He freely taught Xi He and Chang Xi his Dao-proving method, guided future Sages toward their opportunities, and trained Fuxi, Xuan Ming, and Zhu Jiuyin until they were ready to seek their own paths 118 197 267.
