Background

Xiang Yu entered the conflict at Ironclad Castle as the leader of the Jiangdong Righteous Warriors, accompanied by Long Ju and Ji Bu. Carrying an immense bronze cauldron, he tore through the Southern Man’s vine-armored formation, killed a war elephant with one strike, and established himself as a warrior whose raw strength could overturn an entire battlefield 143.

His intervention in Jiangyang City was part of his historical mission: save the Yu Clan, gain the support of its artifact-forging lineage, and win Yu Ji’s favor 204. Yu Ji’s healing and empowerment allowed him to sustain the exhausting use of his thousand-jin cauldron while dueling Wutu Xiong, the Southern Barbarian King 153.

Xiang Yu’s rivalry with Jian Shang intensified into open hostility. His pride was wounded by Jian Shang’s intervention in his duel with Wutu Xiong, and his jealousy erupted when Yu Ji openly restored Jian Shang’s strength during the battle at Bolang Sands 151 358. His later attempts to prevent Yu Ji from leaving with Lan Fenghuang turned their relationship decisively against him; Yu Ji rejected his declaration of love and condemned his coercive actions 489.

As Chu Emperor, Xiang Yu commanded Great Chu against Great Huan. He proved capable of leading elite troops far beyond their numerical limits, breaking an eight-million-man Chaoge vanguard with roughly one million Great Chu elites and his Jiangdong Sons and Brothers 1098. However, Great Chu’s eventual collapse forced him and Fan Zeng to flee with the Undying True Demon, reportedly toward the Upper Realm 1176.

Xiang Yu later re-emerged from the Pangu Inheritance Secret Realm. Facing overwhelming pressure, he accepted Fate Master Xingxing’s proposal to submit to Great Huan, swore a Great Dao Oath limited to Pangu World, and surrendered his followers’ Life Imprints 1647. His loyalty is equally intense: he risked himself to save Ji Bu from the Heavenly Wolf Wuhuan Seal and severely injured his own hand protecting Yu Ji from Liu Bang 359.

His devotion to Yu Ji gradually became possessive. Jealousy drove him to manipulate Xiang Wei as a pawn against Jian Shang, while his later effort to forcibly stop Yu Ji from leaving destroyed her remaining affection and respect for him 358 489.

Defeat, political loss, and Yu Ziqi’s death tempered him. As Chu Emperor, he became more willing to consult Fan Zeng, question the honor of victory through outside aid, and admit responsibility for driving away the Yu Clan 1008 1149.
