Hill shook his head slightly. In the original course of history, Neverwinter's people had incurred a blood debt to Tyr. They had cost him half the Justice Knights, driving the god of justice to perish alongside Helm. So when the volcanic eruption caused by the demons summoned by the Habel Family wiped out Neverwinter, no one sought justice for its total destruction.

Even Ilmater, the compassionate god of suffering among the Justice Triad, had sent no followers to help Neverwinter's pitiful survivors, much less avenge them.

It was just that the powerful cities of the Sword Coast—Waterdeep, Luskan, and even the more distant Baldur's Gate and Candlekeep—had all been destroyed by the "mighty" pirates. Ilmater's followers had been rushing from place to place, so few people paid much attention.

Yet he would rather send his chosen to help the people of Calimshan, who had never worshiped him, than lift a finger for the Neverwinter refugees pleading with him, even the children.

It seemed almost unbelievable. Neverwinter's rioters had caused Tyr's death, and Ilmater, as Tyr's subordinate god and most loyal follower, could do no more than ignore their pleas. But for a god who was so protective of children and always pitied and helped those who suffered, this was the one time he let hatred overcome the sacred duty he upheld.

Then there was Torm, who had taken over Tyr's duties with bitter reluctance. He had even been forced to sacrifice his budding romance with the Red Knight for it.

Whatever rumors circulated, the other two members of the Justice Triad truly had preferred to follow Tyr. They had embraced justice because he had moved them.
