Hill stared at the Habel mage in the lead.
He wore a dark red robe. The Ioun Stones above his head were all purple: two pale violet stones that absorbed magical energy and one bright violet stone that stored spells.
The others could hardly manage such a uniform color scheme. Even if they had two stones that absorbed magical energy, one would likely be green and the other pale violet.
And the Ioun Stones circling his head were noticeably larger.
Most importantly, after a careful look, Hill realized that the hemispherical gem above the mage's head was a High Knowledge Stone!
How was that possible?
Other races might find some way to wear an ordinary Stone of Knowledge, but only those with elven blood could wear a High Knowledge Stone. In fact, only a few High Elves families of the Cormanthor Empire, destroyed in the Dawn Cataclysm, could wear one!
Someone like Hill, who carried Corellon's blood, could ignore those bloodline requirements. But Corellon was the source of all elven bloodlines. No such restriction could bind his descendants.
The Habel Family, however, had no elven blood at all!
Hill could not possibly be mistaken about that... He would have sensed even a trace of elven blood.
It was a gift of Corellon's descendants. No elf could hide from the senses of those whose bloodline was the source of their own.
Hill studied the old mage on the giant screen, then confirmed once more that the man had not a drop of elven blood.
He gritted his teeth... To deceive a High Knowledge Stone, the old man must either have extracted the blood of forty-nine living High Elves from the Cormanthor Empire or robbed the elven tombs of that realm. The latter meant turning nearly a thousand elven corpses into corpse
